Gary Johnson 2012?
Gary Johnson ^ | 29th August | Johnson2012

Posted on 08/28/2009 7:22:31 PM PDT by freepersunite

From January 1995 to December 2002, Gary Johnson served as the Governor of the State of New Mexico, and was the first governor in the history of New Mexico to be elected for two consecutive four year terms. He was ranked among the nation's seven top governors in each of the Cato Institute's fiscal report cards between 1996 and 2002. Under Gov. Johnson's administration, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state's history, the rate of growth in the state government was cut in half, half of the state's prisons were privatized, state Medicaid was shifted to managed care, and the state was left with approximately one thousand fewer employees (with no firings) and a budget surplus. Gov. Johnson vetoed 750 bills (which was more than all the vetoes of the other 49 Governors in the country at that time, combined), which earned him the nickname Gary "Veto" Johnson.

Gov. Johnson is not only a conservative but he has a proven track record during his two terms in New Mexico of SHRINKING government, cutting budgets, reforming healthcare, introducing a voucher system for schools.

Sounds like a perfect candidate in 2012...

what say you, freepers?

There's a few issues like he says he is personally pro-choice but was endorsed by the right to life committee for his bans on partial-birth abortion and Medicaid-funded abortion which means he supports States on abortion.

He is also a Ron Paul fan and the only GOP Governor not to endorse George W. Bush which made him an outcast with the Establishment. I dont see that as a bad thing and would help him in an election against Obama. He's also libertarian on drugs, again though this isn't an issue as he would be support States rights.

SO on the balance I don't see how he isn't a bad candidate, much more appealing than Palin to a general electorate too and from his time in New Mexico shows he can win big in Democrat areas which will need to be cracked to take the Presidency off Obama and his organizing zombie like drones, no way would Palin do that.

He really does have a great record if you can see past his potential faults.

Wars are expensive. Nixon won pledging to end vietnam, a Republican can beat Obama by pledging to end Afghanistan and Iraq. It would split the democrats in half

I would rather Johnson run on the Libertarian Party ticket and get his one percent than run on the GOP ticket and get his one percent.

Why would I want a Republican to win who won’t defend the country, might as well keep the Messiah.

I'm not necessarily against that myself at this point. If our troops have to fight with their hands tied behind their backs and two lawyers each they should probably come home.

If you're promoting Gary Johnson though you ought to know his positions or at least not speculate about them. That doesn't help him if you're wrong.

The John McCains must be weeded out. We need a Ronald Reagan in 2012. If Gary Johnson fits the bill, good.

well maybe we need to do more research... what I do know is that he has a great record and he should run on that in a GOP primary

lol patrick do you think any president would not defend the country? they are SWORN to it

there are different degree’s of “defending” a country.

Would Johnson respond and defeat any enemy that attacks the United States? Yes. Would he invade other countries pre-emptively and fight endless wars on behalf of the war profiteers? No.

By the way, George W. Bush used to be against nation building. Search Youtube for “the George Bush you forgot”, it’s amazing how reasonable he sounds...

the key for me is that not only is he someone you could vote for but he is someone democrats and independents can vote for and toss the messiah out where he belongs. If the messiah has to run against Palin or Romney, the swing voters will stick with Obama no matter how BAD he is he would win by default imo

I had the pleasure of meeting Gov. Johnson at my brother’s graduation at TVI (now CNM). He strikes me as the real deal, and if he is really interested in running, I’m on board. He was a darn good governor in NM, as well.

With the possible exception of Palin (the jury’s still out on her, IMO) ALL of the other widely mentioned candidates are frankly about as inspiring as Bob Dull. Romney: Gun grabbing socialist Masshole RINO. Huckleberry: TV preacher socialist RINO. Jeb: Another Bush, no thanks. Rooty Toots: Fuhgeddaboutit! Graham: HAHAHAHA! Right. Crist: HAHAHAH! OMG, yer killin’ me!

The Repubs had better get someone out in front who has a pair, and right now the only contenders I see are Palin, and possibly Johnson right now. I DON’T want another Dole/Clinton election. Obamugabe must be stopped.

agreed 100%. I dont think Palin can win those blue states, you just know the media will p*ss all over her and she will flounder under scrutiny. Johnson would be a more formidable candidate and with his positions on certain issues would embarass Obama and completely undermine him

I see no evidence that Johnson like Paul or Obama would defend the nation if attacked. That is your characterization of the war against Islamo Fascism not mine.

We nominated a non-conservative last time we don’t need to make that same mistake again. Johnson should run on the Libertarian ticket so he can as a Republican who did defend the country once said “be placed on the ash heap of history.”

Johnson has as much in common with Reagan as Obama.

Ron Paul 2.0
(he can’t unite the conservatives, only splinter off the libertarians.)

Patrick, take it from me he would defend the country... just not in your warped way. Like Nixon he would win on a pledge to end wars while Obama is defending them. I can already hear the Kos kids and left wing loons grinding their teeth.

besides, with trillion dollar deficts the wars have got to end sooner or later, at least will you not admit that. this massive military and deficit is not sustainable

I’m not sure Nixon is the example you want to take to the country. I understand your point of view. It is a libertarian one not a conservative one. There is a libertarian party he can run in and get one percent of the vote and join the political giants like Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Wayne Allan Root.

I will stay with the philosophy that destroyed the Soviet Union and prevented any further attacks by Islam since the left exposed us to attack in 2001.

I would do everything I could to prevent Gary Johnson from becoming the GOP nominee for President.

Why do you automatically assume Sarah can't beat Hussein? If things are gonna be that bad then, how does he get reelected--unless you believe ACORN will have it rigged? It would be an "Anybody but Hussein" election.

There will be at least 10 debates before the primaries. That's where the contenders will pull away from the pretenders, and that's Sarah's playing field. She will show why she is our Reagan to Hussein's Carter. If Gary Johnson can make a name for himself there, more power to him. But Sarah will show why she is THE conservative to win the thing. Enough with the "non-social conservatives" in the Republican party who can't take a principled and constitutional stand on the issues. Those kind will never again get my vote, or my wife's.

“since 2001” but you forget who was President in 2001 and who gave the Norad stand down orders months earlier and who really left NYC exposed on that fateful day
