Yesterday I celebrated the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by enjoying a 10-hour workday, something that millions of other Americans likely did as well. While I was there I heard several references on my radio about the late Reverend King and his dream of a color-blind society. Also, I thought about all the people who had the day off from work, such as the members of Congress, including Senate Leader Harry Reid.
It is rather sad that over 45 years have passed since Kings death and yet people with views like those of Reid still exist. I thought about one of my co-workers - a beautiful, intelligent, professional, successful Negro woman who, if she ever chose to run for elective office, would never have a chance of getting a vote from Reid because her skin is likely too dark for his taste.
