Indiana: Borror Organizes Effort To Succeed Souder
Congressional Quarterly ^ | May 19, 2010 | Greg Giroux

Indiana state Rep. Randy Borror (R), an announced candidate to replace soon-to-resign Rep. Mark Souder (R), says that the top issues in northeastern Indiana dovetail with his background and experience.

Borror told CQ Politics Wednesday that he's well-positioned to provide needed leadership for the Fort Wayne-based 3rd district on jobs, economic development and deficit reduction as the author of legislation creating the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and as a member of the Ways and Means and Budget Committees.

"I think I have a pretty good understanding of finance," Borror said, adding later that "it's pretty well-known that when it comes to economic development legislation and jobs legislation in the state of Indiana, my fingerprints are usually on those things."

Souder's district is so strongly Republican that Borror will be far from the only Republican asking for the party's nod in a special election. State Sen. Marlin Stutzman, auto dealer Bob Thomas and lawyer Phil Troyer are among those who plan to ask a caucus of local Republican officials to consider them as the nominee in the as-yet-unscheduled election. No primary election will be held.

Borror seems like the establishment candidate to me, which makes me back Marlin Stutzman.

I think Marlin might do well in this position. Good luck to him.

Stutzman hasn’t said anything yet about the seat, but rumors are flying that Chris Chocola make take a stab at it.

He used to be the Rep from IN-2, and actually now lives in IN-3

Better nominate a Conservative, and ~not~ a RINO; I hate the Indiana GOP after the travesty that was COATS won the Senate nomination!~

Coats was a bad choice but it’s not like he’s pondscum or anything. His voting record was pretty good.

Interesting. He’s currently the President of the Club for Growth.

I don’t buy it. If Chocola was interested in giving up the presidency of the Club for Growth so soon to return to electoral politics, he would have run for the Senate or sought to retake the IN-02 from Donnelley, who beat him in 2006. I think that Chocola is committed tonstaying at CforG until at least the end of the cycle, and won’t run for office until 2012 at tbe earliest (maybe for Luger’s Senate seat).
