Pete Wilson, Mitt Romney campaign for Meg Whitman
SacBee: Capitol Alert ^ | 5/6/10 | Jack Chang

Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman received high-profile support in appearances in Escondido and Fullerton Saturday, with former Gov. Pete Wilson and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney stumping for her.

In Fullerton, Whitman appeared in the courtyard of the mission-style Villa Del Sol complex where she made her candidacy official in September. Like that event, several hundred people stood under the baking sun to listen to the candidate.

Wilson preceded Romney and called Whitman a threat to public employee unions, warning, "They have a very good reason to be scared to death of Meg Whitman." Whitman has pledged to cut state employee numbers by 40,000 people.

The former governor also went after Democratic candidate Jerry Brown, saying, "He's the one who signed the bill that created those unions that made your taxes go so high."

Well, he's right about that. And either Poizner or Whitman would be better than Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown. But you know, as soon as the primary is over, the winning candidate will make a mad rush to the left.

I thought Whitman might be a good choice, until I heard her praising Van Jones, of all people.

The mere fact that Wilson is campaigning for her (not to mention Rino Romney) disqualifies her for me. Wilson was a jerk of a governor, getting into petty fights with different people (like the supt. of schools), going for the presidency after being elected to his 2nd term (when he promised not to), and not putting his support behind McClintock when he ran for gov. Birds of a feather, and all that.

Bingo!

I live out here in Mexifornia!

What's really despicable is having to watch commercials where Pete Wilson tells us how righteous Meg is on her Illegal Alien positions.

The same Pete Wilson that purposefully did not implement Prop 187 that would have cut off benefits to Illegal Aliens.

Given that good Ol' Meg believes in Tax Payer funded Abortions, it will be a cold day in Hell before I vote for that turd of a candidate.

Not that Poizner is much better, however, at least on Abortion, he states he wants to work to point where there are zero abortions in the State of California.

"But you know, as soon as the primary is over, the winning candidate will make a mad rush to the left."

That's so very true. And now I'm cringing thinking about typical responses to that thought...

"They have to lean hard to the left to get elected, get their work done, get bills passed, etc."

Somehow I'm not surprised that Pete Wilson jumped in.

Yeah, Poizner who got a 100% rating from NARAL? Riiiiiight. LOL. Poizner has flip flopped more than John Kerry ever dreamed of. Anyone who would donate a large sum of money to our enemy at the height of the most heated political battle in recent history -- Gore v. Bush -- is not one of us and cannot be trusted either. Plus, he is way behind. A Field Poll released this week showed Whitman with a commanding lead over Poizner of 51 percent to 25 percent.

Dick Cheney and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association endorsed Meg for Governor too.

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association:
"This is someone who knows how to balance a budget, knows the competitive pressure of the free enterprise system and can bring those thoughts and ideas to the governor's office,” Association President Jon Coupal said. “For those reasons, we're very proud to endorse Meg Whitman for governor and think she'll be great at getting California back on track."

Mitt Romney is a proven bad governor - and author of RomneyCARE.
Any GOP candidate with him is a loser, followed only RomneyBOTs, and attackers of Gov. Palin.

"While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Obviously Whitman now AGREES with Mitt Romney's endorsement of Obama's economics.
California is finished if it chooses her.

“Romney [the man who threw Election2008 to Obama] praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

And of course Romney destroyed Massachusetts with illegals, too.
Also, some say because Romney is Mexican like his father, but certainly NOT a natural born American citizen (like Obama, as if America needs another).

Pete Wilson may have a lot of political faults, but he’s always been on the right side of the illegal immigration issue. Prop 187 passed because of Pete Wilson, and a federal judge immediately put it on hold pending trial. ONE judge eventually ruled against it, and by that time Wilson was on his way out. Gray Davis promised to appeal the ruling, but that was a lie.

Exactly right. Pete Wilson fought for Prop 187 and Mitt Romney signed a pact similar to Jan Brewer's bill in AZ.

ANd Meg still was as late as March of this year proclaiming her support for TaxPayer funded abortions.

So what's your point?

They're both liars and have both changed their positions.

All I'm left with is their stated positions and on Abortion, RIGHT NOW, Poizner's is WAY better then Meg's.

I don't think anything about Poizner is WAY better than Meg. Zilch. Plus, their positions on abortion are pretty much irrelevant at this point until such time Roe v. Wade is overturned -- so what's your point? About 39% of the abortions in CA are paid for by the taxpayers now. That's unlikely to change no matter who is governor . The critical issue facing CA is the economy and jobs and Meg is uniquely positioned and far more qualified to address that issue than Poizner. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Foundation has endorsed Meg due to her strong fiscal conservatism.

A Field Poll released this week showed Whitman with a commanding lead over state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner of 51 percent to 25 percent.

First of all, their positions on Abortion are not irrelevant.

If I cannot trust someone to fight for the lives of the most defenseless among us, if I cannot trust someone to make the easiest of decisions concerning morality, how can I trust them to do anything else from a position of principle?

Their positions on this issue is a bell-weather or litmus test of how they make decisions.

Do they make decisions from a foundation of morality or from a foundation of some sort of other selfish political position.

To repeat, Meg Whitman supports Taxpayer funded abortion.

Steve Poizner, while stating he is Pro-Choice, has also stated in the same statement his goal is to work towards zero abortions in California.

Furthermore, I trust Tom McClintock a whole lot more than the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Foundation.

And finally, Meg is very weak on Illegal Immigration. She does not like the new law in AZ, I believe 1070.

Poizner is fully supportive of the New AZ law and has been all over saying he wants to cut off benefits for Illegals, A La Prop 187.

Overall, I'll take Poizner over Meg.

They're both bad choices, but given Poizner's positions on Illegal Immigration and Abortion, Poizner is the best of a bad lot.

Poizner is a lying, flip-flopping insurance selling weasel who gave Al Gore 10K in Gore v Bush when we were fighting for control of the presidency. Someone on our side would never do that. He is not to be trusted AT ALL. I just wonder what scoopy he's got on McClintock. That endorsement makes no sense at all.

No sense fighting over it. Never mind. Meg looks like she will win it easily. Hope you come to your senses and unite to defeat Jerry Brown.
