Internal Poll Finds Black Leading Primary Field In Tennessee 6
Congressional Quarterly ^ | July 7, 2010 | John McArdle

With just two weeks to go before early voting begins in Tennessee, state Sen. Diane Black has released a poll showing her far ahead of the six other candidates vying for the Republican nomination in the 6th district.

Black was the preferred candidate of 41 percent of likely primary voters surveyed. Her closest competitors, former Rutherford County GOP Chairwoman Lou Ann Zelenik and state Sen. Jim Tracy, polled at 22 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

Four other Republicans garnered support in the low single digits, and just 12 percent of those surveyed said they were undecided.

The poll was conducted June 28 and 29 by On Message Inc. It had a sample size of 400 and a 5-point error margin.

The same polling company conducted an April survey that showed Black and Tracy tied at 33 percent support and Zelenik far behind, the preference of just 7 percent of those polled.

Black's pollster, Wes Anderson, attributed Zelenik's growth to her support among voters who identify with the tea party movement.

This is an interesting development. Input from Tennessee Freepers (you know who you are) is especially welcome.

There's no reason to bring race into this race.

Is Sen. Diane Black, black?

I have no idea.

What I like is her support coming from the Tea Party folks making a difference.

Diane Black is currently in the #2 spot on KHR. Looks like we need an Impy input.

I’ve not seen any polling data on the race (ditto the Gubernatorial primary). I lean towards Jim Tracy (although this is not my district), but I have no problem with either Black or Zelenik. Zelenik has had the guts to come out against Mohammadan Temples of Hate.
