Kansas Republicans go to the polls next month to choose their nominee for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Sam Brownback, who is leaving Congress to run for governor.
And the Aug. 3 GOP primary is likely to determine the next senator from Kansas. The state hasn't sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
Brownback's would-be successors, Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt both GOP members of the House share what to the naked eye would seem almost identical voting records in Congress. Nonetheless, each is trying to convince voters that he has the most conservative credentials.

This is a key primary and I hope that Kansas conservatives are giving this their full attention.
Both candidates are very conservative congressmen, so regardless of who wins a conservative will be the next Senator from Kansas.
That’s largely true. I have a favorite choice in this primary, but I don’t dislike the other candidate.
Same with me. I’m voting for Moran in the primary, but on the off chance Tiahrt gets the nod then I won’t have any problems voting for him in the fall.

Paradise won!
Whom do you see as the best candidate against the CommieCrate? Are they both known to be honest and Soros-free?
Both are honorable men who have served their districts well for many years. Both are solid conservatives, and despite the attack ads that both are running implying that Moran may be weak on taxes or Tiahrt may be squishy on immigration, both would be solid conservative voices in Washington. I've met both men on a number of occasions and Moran just impresses me more. I think he'd make a valuable leader in D.C., but as I said before if Moran isn't the nominee then I'll mourn the loss of his leadership in the House but will have no qualms about voting for Tiahrt for the Senate.
WOW - enjoy the wealth while you can.
In this case, I wish there was a way to ‘spread’ the wealth to conservative-poor states! LOL
As with most things on NPR, not exactly entirely true. Moran, while generally conservative in his views and votes, has shown an uncomfortable tendency to cross the aisle and support his "friends" on the other side. They are not my friends, and they are not friends of the country. They are the enemy and we must not forget it. They never forget who their enemies are and they share a big laugh when they con a Conservative into supporting their "bipartisan measure".
I will support Tiahrt in the primary, but since I will never again in my lifetime vote for a Democrat, the winner of this contest will have my vote and will be elected the next Senator from Kansas. Since I don't care much for politicians in general, I wouldn't care to have either as a friend. But, I'm not voting for a friend, I'm voting for a Conservative for the Senate.
(Says that Moran did not tell the truth on immigration!)
I will post a seperate thread, in a few minutes. This is breaking news!
Tancredo withdraws support from Moran, backs TiahrtLeading immigration foe Tom Tancredo, the former Colorado congressman, today withdrew his endorsement of Kansas Senate candidate Jerry Moran and gave it to rival candidate Todd Tiahrt.
In doing so, Tancredo said Moran had deceived him.
Tancedo wrote this (as released by the Tiahrt camp):
Dear Kansan,
In February of this year I endorsed Congressman Jerry Moran for the United States Senate.
I came to this difficult conclusion after receiving untrue and incomplete information from the Moran for Senate campaign and Congressman Moran himself.
After independent research, I have learned disturbing information about Congressman Morans support of amnesty and benefits for illegal immigrants.
He voted against my amendment to defund sanctuary cities, essentially granting amnesty to all illegal immigrants in each of those cities.
Congressman Moran also voted with Nancy Pelosi to remove citizenship verification for illegal immigrants to receive welfare benefits.
Then he raised your taxes to pay for those health care benefits.
Congressman Moran even opposed money to secure our borders and build the fence.
In addition to hiding his own record, Congressman Moran distorted and maligned Congressman Todd Tiahrts record on illegal immigration. Congressman Tiahrt has been innovative in his approach to sealing the borders, written legislation to close loopholes so you and I dont pay for benefits to illegal immigrants, and led the charge to keep tough immigration laws at the forefront of the debate in Congress when so many others are letting President Obama take the lead.
Because I care about the burden illegal immigration places on this country, I am withdrawing my endorsement of Congressman Moran and proudly endorsing Congressman Todd Tiahrt.
If you care about the damage illegal immigration does to our society, I hope you can join me in supporting and voting for Congressman Todd Tiahrt.
Congressman Tom Tancredo
He decided to back the loser, huh?
Moran's numbers will tank!
Moran has been pro terrorist rights
Moran has voted against parental notification
Moran has supported several tax increases
Moran has voted against laws that would restrict benefits to illegal aliens.
Keep telling yourself that. Three weeks from today.
I’m of the opinion that in spite of their imperfections, conservatives win with either candidate, but with Tiahrt, we win a little bit more.
A number of Freepers are neutral in this primary, and you don’t find much neutrality on FR.
The democrat has no chance.
Kansas has only ever popularly elected 2 democrat Senators.
Sebelius deciding not to run eliminated any chance of them getting their 3rd this year.
Twenty days and it won't matter any more.
Moran voted with Pelosi.
Moran voted with the ACLU.
Tiahrt, instead, tried his best to get both of the Burnhams home, safely. Tiahrt also fought hard for tough laws, to fight terrorism.
Moran's ACLU score is 4 times higher that Tiahrt. The ACLU supports Moran!
