The Kansas State Rifle Association and U.S. Senate Candidate Todd Tiahrt will hold a press conference on Monday, July 26th at 1:00 p.m. The press conference will be held in the Old Supreme Court Room at the State Capitol Building, Topeka, Kansas.
The Kansas State Rifle Association will discuss Tiahrt’s long record of fighting for the rights of firearm owners and his success in protecting our Second Amendment rights.
Tiahrt is the leading conservative running to replace Sam Brownback in the United States Senate. He is known nationally for protecting the privacy rights of firearm owners as the author of a federal law known as the Tiahrt Amendment. Tiahrt has come under repeated attack from gun-control organizations and liberal East Coast mayors, such as NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, for his role in drafting this firearm privacy-right law. The Tiahrt Amendment is supported by the NRA and the Paternal Order of Police, the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers.

Not likely. Moran has demographics on his side. His 1st District has nearly twice as many registered Republicans than Tiahrt's 4th District has, and they tend to be white, older, and the kind of voter most likely to turn out for a primary election. Last poll I saw had Moran leading Tiahrt in his district by about 60 points. Moran has strong support in the 3rd District because he has spent almost as much time here as he has in his own. I haven't seen any polls breaking down support here but I'd say that Moran is certainly up, both among conservatives and moderates. His negative campaign may have really hurt him, mainly because most people recognize the charges to be inaccurate. I think that the latest polls from last week are accurate and that Moran is up by double digits. And he will be the next Senator from Kansas. Palin didn't back the winner in this one.
I believe that you are right and its a shame. I predict that Senator Moran will spend most of his time demonstrating how bipartisan he is willing to be.

I formed my opinion on the basis of his record. We will see.

I stand by what I said before. The campaign is basically a guy with a 95% solid record vs. a guy with a 92% solid record. Tiahrt has a better record than Moran on some important issues, but by the same token, Moran is better than Tiahrt on an issue or two as well. Either one would make a better GOP Senator than about 80% of the incumbents we have out there. I wish one of these two guys would have taken out Sam Brownback in the gubernatorial primary (and Brownback isn't even a RINO, just a sellout who portrays himself as Mr. Pro-Life Leader while rubber stamping radical abortionists to positions of high power)
This particular Senate race just annoys me with the constant nasty firepower being launched by two good conservatives against each other. THIS is why RINOs elsewhere are skating thur primaries. Their supporters out to get a clue and save their negative energy and invest it against truly bad liberal Republicans (and they need not even focus nationally -- Kansas itself has plenty of RINOs in power that NEED to be taken out)
I was not impressed when McCain endorsed Moran. If Moran is in McCain’s camp, he is not what we need in the Senate.
Moran’s campaign manager quit and endorsed Tihart. He said he was more conservative than Moran. That will hurt Moran but the ads Tihart is running will hurt Tihart.
By that logic, the fact McCain picked Palin to be his veep proves she’s a RINO and not who we want in the White House.
This is not the general election, its a primary, and both candidates are conservatives. So, which one does McCain endorse and what does that mean? He might have endorsed the more centrist candidate, or he might have just endorsed the likely winner. But, the chance that he has endorsed the more centrist, someone likely to help him with his agenda in the Senate, gives me cause for concern.
That, coupled with other factors has led me to decide to support Tiahrt in the primary. I will vote for the winner in November, but Moran will not get my vote next week.
