Dems pursued a procedural tack that required two thirds of the House to prevail, enabling Republicans to defeat it, and obviously opposing this bill was a morally questionable thing to do. But I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Weiner's rant doesn't do anyone any good -- least of all Dems. Republicans want Dems to respond this way -- to fulminate and rant about procedure and about their inability to pass legislation, even though they enjoy comfortable majorities.

It’s getting out that the dems attached a bunch of CRAP to this bill (illegals’ bennies) and THAT’S why the republicans voted it down. The repubs were ALL FOR aid to the first responders....the dems just wouldn’t pare it down to that, so, IMHO, it makes the dems look like THEY don’t care about our firefighters, cops and rescue workers. (and, they don’t).
Dems are acting cocky ‘cause their puppetmaster/keeper (see tagline) is going to “buy” the Secretaries of State before the 2010 elections:

I’m sorry, but civil servants already have benefits that are far more luxurious then what can be found in private sector. Why noshould the taxpayers be made to foot the bill to further extend them more benefits when our deficit is so out of control.

It’s an opinion column so he gets to say whatever he wants. Sort of how the other members of the media criticize Fox for being right-wing when most of the program is news analysis and opinion.
