Obama a liability in Senate battlegrounds‎ (He's underwater in DELAWARE!!)

If Christine O'Donnell wins tonight it's not going to matter but here's a pretty amazing finding from our Delaware poll: Barack Obama's approval rating there is now under water at 46% happy with the job he's doing and 48% disapproving. That's a pretty amazing drop in a state where he won 62% of the vote.

It's just the most dramatic example of something plaguing Democratic candidates in all of this year's most competitive Senate races though. Currently Nate Silver has 9 seats in the 25-75% probability of either side winning category. Obama won all 9 of those states in 2008. But he now has negative approval numbers in 6 of them. Beyond that his approval number is at least 7 points lower than the percentage of the vote he received in every single one of those states, and in 7 of the 9 it has dropped by a double digit margin.

There's not much doubt that Barack Obama is the biggest reason why most of these blue state Senate races are looking so competitive and getting 15-20% of the vote from people who disapprove of Obama is going to be critical to the victory chances of many of these Democratic candidates.

Here's the full data:

I love how they're so dismissive of Christine O'Donnell.

O’Donnell can tie Obama with the leftist Dem candidate during the general election after she wins tonight.

Yeah, well you’d expect that Obama would be electoral poison in a Republican stronghold like Delaware.

I believe O’Donnell is going to win today, and in November.

Was he underwater when Jeremiah Wright partially baptized him? We know Wright only partially baptized him because the bubbles did not stop breaking the surface.

If you think ‘10 is bad. Just Wait.

In 2012, there are 23 Dems up for re-election and only 10 GOPers (and all pretty much locks other than Scott Brown).

All kinds of Dems can be taken out including in Michigan (Stabenow), Minn (Klobucar), Montana (Tester), PA (Casey), Nebraska (Nelson), Missouri (McCaskill), FL (Nelson), New Mexico (Bingaman), OH (Brown), North Dakota (Conrad), Virgina (Webb)...
