The response by the Republican political establishment to the Christine O'Donnell victory over liberal Republican Mike Castle in Delaware has been an embarrassment. A strong, vocal woman upturned the political tables in Delaware, a state where both political parties have been run like blue-blooded patriarchies for the better part of half a century, and all the boys that compose "the establishment" can muster is omniscient edicts about her absolute un-electability in a general election.
Funny, I don't recall hearing similar talk from the likes of Mssrs. Rove and Cornyn after Scott Brown won in Massachusetts, Joe Miller won in Alaska, or Rand Paul won in Kentucky. In fact, despite similar sliming by the state party apparatus before Paul's victory Rove was downright supportive of him, saying on Fox News that Rand Paul could win the general election, just as he could win the primary. And this was after the state party did its darnedest to tear Paul apart and to make him look like an incompetent kook, in many ways similar to what the Republican political class has been doing to O'Donnell.
The difference here is that once the primary was over, the political elites in Washington stood by their men. Why won't they do it for the woman?
It's ancient history by Washington standards, but when Sarah Palin ran against the political establishment in Alaska and did to that state what O'Donnell may be poised to do in Delaware, she faced similar political whining and whispers from the party elders, even after she won the governor's race and even after she was accepting the offer of Sen. John McCain to serve as his running mate on a national ticket.

Good column! Charles the Cabbage Clubber, like Tokyo Rose, digs himself in deeper with what he’s written today:
The insufferable prigs of the not-quite-right expose themselves in 2010, just wait until they’ve got a female presidential candidate in 2012!
I really really like Jeri Thompson.
You are right! Loved this “I can see November from Christine’s house”. Also in the comments, if Rove and GOP discredit COD, she loses, they blame and discredit Sarah.
I LOVE Jeri Thompson!! She should be on TV more!
Old Fred married a smart woman.
I don’t want to hear any more they (true conservatives) can’t win, nor that a GOP candidate can’t win in a mostly black district against a white arrogant POS dem.
I’ve sent Charlotte money for the past 3 months, and have passed out more than 300 flyers, have magnetic campaign signs on both sides of my car. I’m typing this with only 1 eye functioning, had cataract surgery yesterday.
Some districts are written off as unwinnable, when with a few extra $$ a candidate with the Ronald Reagan message could win, especially given the job loss, the higher taxes and obamacare. Reagan proved that when he won.
I know theyve written off the US 9th TN where we have an arrogant POS 2 term obama butt kisser Steve Cohen. Who says he votes like a black woman, (hes a white, Jew) BUT wont debate his black, GOP, Memphis Tea Party backed candidate she won 61% of the GOP primary vote over 2 male candidates.

Cohen is so arrogant he isnt even campaigning against Charlotte.
Steve Cohen not worried about 9th Congressional

Yet, even as Steve Cohens 9th Congressional District opponent prepares a campaign that may include a billboard proclaiming Charlotte Bergmann can whip Steve Cohen, Memphis most popular elected Democratic legislator is indicating he will not mount a large campaign aimed at motivating Democratic voters.
Cohen wasnt even sure how much effort he would put into a get-out-the-vote operation for his Democratic base.
I vote like a black woman, he said in an interview. I dont know the black experience, but I know about being a minority and being discriminated against because of religion.
This is the man who liken 0 the community organizer to JESUS CHRIST!
Good comment. I’ve been trying to think what to make of “Krauthammer.” Cabbage Clubber is right on the mark.
This is what is so utterly stupid about the GOP Establishment response from Rove, Kaulthammer, etc.
If she loses, EVERYONE on our side is going to point at Rove and Charlie etc as why.
If she wins, everyone is going to remember that they did their best to sabotage her.
They GOP Establishment mouthpieces face either ostracism from the Conservative movement as traitors or ostracism from the Conservative movement as irrelevant, non-credible cretins.
So either way the Roveites are creating a lose-lose position for themselves.
You tell em Jeri!
