Why I'm Running for RNC Chairman (Saul Anuzis)

...Now we turn our attention to 2012. America must elect a new President. It is that hope, that necessity, that challenge, that draws me to announce my candidacy for the Chairmanship of the Republican National Committee.
I dont take lightly the fact that I am challenging a friend and colleague for the Chairmanship. When Michael was elected Chairman, I was the only candidate who stepped forward to attend the next mornings RNC breakfast meeting, agreed to join the transition team, and later took on several roles as a team player on the RNC
and have attended every meeting since.
Given my involvement and efforts to help over the past two years, it was not an easy decision for me to seek the post. As someone who believes in loyalty, my natural instinct would be to sit this out. But the simple fact is that the overriding challenge we face is winning back the Presidency in 2012 and we will not accomplish that objective unless there is dramatic change in the way the RNC does business.
(snip)
...Of course I will be happy to discuss politics and elections with the media, but I wont be competing with valuable airtime from the men and women on our ticket. Instead, I will work with our elected leaders around the country to give them maximum exposure and guarantee a consistent message that leads us to victory.
(snip)
My agenda is very straightforward. I have no interest in running for office. I wont be writing a book. It is not my goal to be famous....

A lengthy announcement from former Michigan RNC chair Saul Anuzis regarding his challenge to Michael Steele for RNC Chairman.
I can only say that Anuzis always returns my emails and answers my questions in a timely fashion.

Anuzis is a big Pawlenty supporter. He is positioning himself for 2012.

He sounds good to me. Better than what we’ve got. We should make the move soon, to allow time for the inevitable trumped-up charges of racism to cool down before the next election.

As an Independent, I really don't have a dog in this fight, but personally, I would really rather see anyone except Steele at this stage of the game if the GOP is serious.
Not exactly sure whether Anuzis is it, but, hey, how much worse could it get?

We have to be able to do better than this guy out of the GOP of MI for crying out loud. The GOP of MI has been pathetic for far to long. Most while Anuzis was a large part of it - I have family in MI, and the last I remember this guy was out their criticizing losing to Grahholm (sp) because of the “GWB economy”. Utterly pathetic and clueless. Both him and Steele are awful! We have to be able to do better.
To: cripplecreek
I know he stood firmly behind Tim Walberg in the 7th district and Tim is as conservative as they come.I'm really glad Marky Mark is gone.
Thanks for the link, cripplecreek!

My only questions are, does he have ties to Romney that I should worry about ?
Is he a Pawlenty guy ?
And is he a winner ?

Is he a Pawlenty guy ?
See above post--someone has already chimed in on that score.
And is he a winner ?
Guess it all depends on your definition of "winner".

The one thing I will give Michael Steele is that he respects the Tea Party and what it has contributed.
I expect the next RNC chair will be an establishment RINO promoted by Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie who will crap all over the Tea Party and tear the GOP apart.

The TpC is getting stronger the RNC is getting weaker..
Actually political partys themselves are obsolete..
The TpCaucus is the cutting edge of american political evolution...

Your relatives in Michigan seem to have advised you correctly. Anuszis led the MIaGOP for several years and his accomplishments here were miniscule. For every win that the GOP had in Michigan during his tenure, there were several losses. Anuszis failed to develop any plan or make any serious effort to take out our two Marxist senators and failed to mount any serious threat to the regime of Clueless Jenny Granholm.
Maggie Carta is a nice person and I mean her no disrespect for her position on this guy.

JMO...regardless of his conservative creds, no matter how nice a guy he is, Anuzis was an absolutely dismal failure as chair of MIGOP and should not be considered to head up the national committee, not under any circumstances. Like I said, just my opinion...but he was chair when a
fleet of candidates duked it out in the 7th Congressional primary a few short years ago, giving us the RINO Schwartz for two years...and the state remained staunchly and inexplicably blue during his tenure, in spite of our economy being strangled by Granholm...
He has to shoulder some of the blame for these failures. I'm astonished that he would seek the bigger chair.

Do you know what happened to that Catholic college Mr Anuzis was going to start? IIRC that was his reason for stepping down as chairman of MIGOP.
He always seemed to be a nice guy to me. A little too nice, he could have used a healthy dose of "here I am, take me or leave me" a la RR or Chuck Heston.
I remember when he was chairman of MIGOP he was on a morning radio show where he would debate Mark Brewer, the DNC chair. I mentioned having heard him and he asked me if he sounded annoying. I didn't figure out what he was asking until the next week I heard them. What he was actually asking was "I don't sound annoying like Mark Brewer, do I"?
He didn't, but I never got a chance to get back to him on that.

I know there was supposed to be a new Catholic college in K'zoo, but I haven't a clue as to whether he was involved in that one. Or even whether that college has been built yet. Sorry.

Yes, "nice" isn't always best, if by "nice" you mean, "I'm a doormat".

Finally saw Anuzis on Fox News last night (working just eats into one's productive television time) He didn't sound annoying to me, either.
