Jeb Bush Opposes Arizona's SB 1070 Law
Latina ^ | December 7, 2010 | Mariela Rosario

Posted on 12/22/2010 1:35:17 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Jeb Bush—former President George W. Bush's younger brother and member of one of the most esteemed Republican families in the country—announced his opposition to Arizona's SB 1070 laws over the weekend.

At the National League of Cities convention in Denver, Colorado, he explained that doesn't believe racial profiling is an affective way to determine citizenship and pointed out that his half-Latino children (he is married to a Mexican woman) could be suspects.

"It's the wrong approach," Bush said according to the Denver Post. "The net result is not much has been done."

Bush went on to criticize the call for mass deportation from anti-immigration groups, saying that the cost for such an effort would be prohibitive and that government should focus on plugging the border and integrating the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants already in the United States into American society.

Jeb Bush's point was especially aimed at local Colorado Republicans; the state senate announced plans this year to introduce legislation based on Arizona's immigration bill, even though it has essentially been deemed unconstitutional by local courts. Jeb Bush, a party centrist, is seen by many conservatives as their main ambassador to the Latino community.

Bush concluded his speech by pointing out that his outspoken opposition to the controversial SB 1070 laws should be proof positive that he does not intend on running for president in 2012—a rumor his parents had already attempted to dispel, but that his brother and other conservatives have been pushing for.

With great accuracy, one could call SB 1070 the "Equal Justice Under Law, Anti-Profiling Bill of 2010," since it specifically prohibits racial-language-ethnic profiling, and is far more civil-rights-sensitive than the Federal Law which it mirrors.

Why doesn't he read the damn bill?

I guess that's asking too much?

Other than that he was very, very good.

What made him very, very good? Did he do anything about the millions of illegals in Florida? Did he support offshore drilling? I was in Florida, and I didn't see anything special. Bob Graham was probably the most popular governor of Florida and that was because of his "work days," not his official duties. The governorship of Florida isn't all that powerful or visible of a job.

“You called 911 because you were just robbed at gunpoint?” “OK, was the robber a man or a woman?” “Can’t say, Officer, I don’t want to profile.” “Well, what race was the robber?” “Can’t say, Officer, I don’t want to profile.” “What was the robber wearing?” “Can’t say, Officer, I don’t want to profile.”” “OK, we’ll write a report.”

“Jeb Bush is a loser.”

I’ll second that Jane.

I simply do not understand anyone that has has seriously considered the issue or seen the effects of illegal immigration on communities (even small ones like mine in Indiana) thinking amnesty is a good idea.

There is something insidious motivating these people and it does not take into consideration the welfare of the citizens of our country.

All the jobs that enabled students to work their way through college when I was doing it are gone. All filled by illegal immigrants being paid under the table by greedy businessmen who couldn’t care less about their communities.

It is sickening.

All depressing thoughts aside, I wish you and yours a Blessed Christmas.

Wait a minute: Jeb has a Hispanic wife, He might want to lay up against her tonite and maybe pitch a little Woo.

He has Hispanic kids, of course he loves them. He dosnt want the profiled.

You cannot blame him ,unless you blame him for marrying a Hispanic in the first place.

But you have to remember that he is biased, His mother has caught it from him and so has his Brother .

If I were married to a Hisanic, I would probably feel the same way.

Right now I feel if you cannot speak English have no intention of learning, and have not tried for legal citizenship you should GTF back to where you came from.

The "wise latina" who wrote this piss doesn't even know how to spell "effective." Probably another "Affirmative Action" sluc getting a job someone else was actually qualified for. Although, I have to admit, it is cute, watching them trying to imitate educated humans. You almost can't tell the difference, especially when you squint.

LMAO!!!

If I were Bush, I would be very worried about this. Since you need to be committing and initial illegal act to be checked for papers, you know his kids will be constantly stopped.

Guess she became a Naturalized Citizen in 1987 which is weird since she was married to Jeb going on 23 years at that point.

There are no countries where you are exempt from producing valid I.D.

All countries require you to carry your passport with you at all times and produce it on demand.

Maybe I just don’t understand our Immigration laws? /s

He was a good governor. But he is a Bush and I do not want him in any national office. At least he has the honesty to openly say that he is in effect an anti-American screwball before he runs for President or senator or something.
