On Wednesday's Washington Unplugged, CBS News chief political consultant Marc Ambinder weighed in on Sarah Palin's video statement responding to critics who have blamed her for Saturday's shootings.
"It's a remarkable video for several reasons," Ambinder said. "If you look at the video, and you look at the scope of what she says, it's almost presidential-esque. "
Ambinder noted to CBS News senior White House correspondent Bill Plante that her response before President Obama's scheduled remarks Wednesday evening elevates her status as a prominent Republican, "I think it makes her the most prominent Republican, in a sense, to respond or to 'prespond' to what President Obama is going to say tonight."(continued)

It’s not “presidential-esque” Mr. Ambinder. The word you’re searching for is PRESIDENTIAL full stop.
And she's been dead-on in her critiques.
She seems to be able to simplify otherwise obscure situations (e.g., death panels). Remarkable woman, remarkable person.
And beautiful, to boot.
That’s why the LSM keeps going after her...they KNOW she’s the best.
I doubt that Obama will be able to measure up to Sarah’s message about Tucson. The TOTUS will need to be at warp 5 for him to compete with Ms Palin’s comments.
Barry’s big “make or break” speech will be tonight. His political career is going to hinge on whether he can come across as a great uniter. At least that’s what the “media” has been saying.
I have little doubt that she will be a very successful candidate in the 2012 Republican Presidential Primaries.
It was a remarkable speech IMO and the timing was brilliant.
And what have we heard from the other presidential hopefulls? Oh yes, Pawlenty said he wouldn’t have used that bullseye map.
She was Presidential. The time has come to increase the rhetoric. Pump up the volume of the depiction of these liberals as parasites and moochers. DO NOT TONE DOWN!! TONE UP!!!
I agree. It was her very best appearence yet. Very Presidential, indeed.
Let’s compare Sarah Palin’s character and behavior to Hussein’s.
Just this evening it was revealed that Hussein is giving FREE T-SHIRTS out at the “Thriving” EVENT (that should be “solemn funeral” but dems can’t help themselves).
Free funeral t-shirts.
That’s Hussein.
FUNERAL FAIL, ZERO!!!
“Its not presidential-esque Mr. Ambinder. The word youre searching for is PRESIDENTIAL full stop.”
If a conservative said that about a liberal woman the feminazis would castrate him with a rusty can opener. He is making an oblique reference to her statue-esque figure. BTW, there is nothing wrong with the fact the Palin takes care of herself and has a great body.
I know, that is SO bizarre? T-shirts? At a funeral?
Idiots!
Better than anyone else I’ve heard on the matter. Although I did enjoy Jonah Goldberg’s brevity in calling the proposed speech legislation ‘sand-poundingly stupid.’
Sarah Palin has been the most presidential-esque Republican since Reagan. That’s why the elites hate her. They’re jealous.
Oh my, are you sure about this? How awful. Wellstone, redux, only this time get a T-shirt as a souvenir !!
You have got to be kidding me.
No way!
You'll be telling me next that Fred Phelps has been invited to sing a funeral paean to the dead.
There is a reason for that; her presidency is inevitable.

That's why the Loughner-Left goes insane every time her name is mentioned.
It’s like something from The Onion.
I mean what genius at the Hussein Administration thought free t-shirts were a good idea?
Unbelievable tasteless behavior.
I think their actions since Saturday will come back to bite them, bigtime.
Ambinder is correct, of course. You can always tell how dead on she is by the reaction of the scumbags. She has the lefty Democrats’ panties in such a twist it’s downright funny. It’s hard to believe this aired on CBS.
Pawlenty wimped out. If you can’t show courage in a situtation like this, you should not be president. Sarah WAS brilliant.
Yep.
Read it right here on FR about an hour ago.
The scumbags are making up for their missed opportunity at the Paul Wellstone funeral rally. Look for the same t-shirts to shortly go on sale for $14.99, proceeds to be donated to the DNC (or affiliate).
She did look presidential....that was what I was thinking as I watched the video:o)
I sh*t you not, sir.
Read it here on FR.
The article said those preparing the floor seating, were placing the shirts on those chairs for those who sit there.
We don’t disbelieve you, we still can’t quite believe just how crass the Left are.
“His political career is going to hinge on whether he can come across as a great uniter.”
I’m sure Chrissy Matthews will do his best to adore whatever he says and lavish praise upon the magic muslim. Count on it.

Nope, the article was posted about it within the last hour.
Let’s hope this awakens any remaining sheeple about how crass and power-hungry Hussein and his minions are.
Even democrats have to see this behavior is abhorrent. Well, wait, they do hold abortion out as their holy grail, so maybe funeral t-shirts are OK with them.
How can she be elevated any more than she already is? It’s literally impossible to be more elevated than she is. She’s up at Everest while most are still way down at the base camp.
That said, as a fan of hers I have to say I don’t get the solo video thing. I think it comes off as a bit cold/distant and doesn’t really have the personal connection.
That’s one thing Obama gets. He’s always in public, always before adoring crowds and cheering throngs. Even his race speech was before an audience and not just a video of him sitting down somewhere.(If it had been it would have come off much worse). Look to 2007. Hillary announces her candidacy on a video from her living room with just herself. Obama announces his before thousands of cheering supporters in Springfield, IL. Which came off better? Who won the nomination. He’s always being seen with people, always connecting, always being photographed and showed as the center of an adoring mass.
I think a statement in front of an audience is always better. Now, I realize she’s not going to call for some crowd to show up to see her talk about this. To her credit, Gov Palin also usually appears in public and has seen her share of adoring crowds.
In this case, I’d have just released the statement, I don’t really see what the point of the added video was. But, if people like it, great.
Highly astute comment.
I thought it was an elegant tribute to the dead that she chose this moment to go to the extra trouble of making a video.
But oh man: it’s such a battle of unequals. Palin puts out a pitch-perfect speech, and The President Of The United States responds by releasing a range of funeral T-Shirts.
You can’t make this stuff up.
bump for later
CBS News is a joke.
This plaudit changes nothing.
“Together we trive” ? What a gay slogan.
trive=thrive
Governor Sarah Palin is excoriated by the left and some of the right because she doesn’t fit well with the elites - she is not one of them.
She is just a regular American who resonates with other regular Americans. And the more they love her, the more the liberals hate her. Polls aside, she has a good chance now of defeating Obama in 2012.
The more they pile on her, the better she gets. She is in fact a unifier because she speaks straight over the heads of the media and articulates what most Americans think.
As far as her experience is concerned, she is better qualified than Barack Obama ever was and we know all about her. We know some things about Barack Obama and none of them are inspiring.
People don’t want to see the same old faces in the Republican primaries.
Go Sarah!
Dianne Sawyer also described her as “almost presidential” tonight.
The only problem with Sarah’s speech is that it was released too soon. An hour before Obama’s would have been good.....
YES! I've thought this from day one - she is so fabulous that they felt they had to destroy her - she is their worst nightmare. Just imagine if she were advocating wealth redistribution, unions unions unions, abortion, and illegal immigration - they'd be licking her feet.
I’d vote for her twice
That's a good point. Anyway, I respectfully disagree with the general tenor of the article. I think Palin did herself a disservice with her remarks. Were the accusations against her outrageous? Of course. All the more reason they don't need to be dignified with a response IMO. Palin seems to have difficulty remaining silent when she is accused. (Remember David Letterman's tasteless comment about her daughter? I don't think she should've dignified that with a response either.) I think she just gave her detractors more ammunition to accuse her of using a tragedy to further her own image.
I think Palin should've just said that this situation is a terrible tragedy, and that she is praying for the victims to have a full and speedy recovery. Period.
In general, when you are insulted, I think the best response is no response. If you're someone as popular as Palin, you have millions of people who are willing to jump to your defense--I don't think you need to defend yourself directly, or at least not in public.
I don't expect mine to be a popular opinion, of course, YMMV.
I agree she does tend to respond more personally than others, but I think she’s gotten better at being more selective. There was a time when she’d respond to everything. The media likes to goad her.
The Letterman example you cited wasn’t all her. She was asked about on an interview with Matt Lauer. She didn’t bring it up first. I suppose she could have given a no comment. She didn’t really say all that much, and it sort of grew over the next day or so.
It can be tough deciding when to comment and when not to. If you say nothing then they just repeat it over and over and it goes unchallenged and it becomes accepted and people believe it.
That was one of my big complaints with W. He had this hands off attitude. He’d never repsond to anything, just let the media and the democrats and the left bash him incessantly, lie constantly, etc... He’d say “well, I’m the President and I’m above that, I don’t want to go down to their level”. But he’d just take it and look what happened. His approval tanked, the GOP’s standing tanked, and it led to Obama and dem dominance for 2 years.
He did a great job addressing the critics and the lies in Decision Points and on his book tour. He was great on Oprah, Leno, the Lauer interview on NBC. If he had done stuff liek that when he was in office and responded that way I think things would have been different.
So, I don’t think you needto respond to everything. But when the natl media and many in the dem establishment pretty much spent the past three days singling her out as the culprit and being responsible for a mass killing and assassination attempt, I think that rises to the level of something that merits a reply.
