In the first ever "straw poll" of New Hampshire Republican party committee members sponsored by ABC News and WMUR and sanctioned by the state Republican party, ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took 35 percent of the 276 valid ballots cast. This is just 3 percent more than Romney took in the 2008 GOP primary, when he finished in second place behind Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
Coming in a distant second was Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, with 11 percent. Paul took 8 percent in the 2008 GOP primary.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who is spending the early part of next week in the Granite State, came in third with 8 percent.
In fourth place was ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has yet to visit the first-in-the-nation-primary state, with 7 percent.
This is by no means a scientific sample, but it was a good early canvass of the sentiments of the state's most active Republican voters.
The "straw poll" was open only to the 426 registered members of the Republican committee, and 65 percent of those commitee members participated....

I'd rather have Guliani, Romney, or any of those Repubs who are getting blasted on FR instead of another 4 years of "Obama the Dictator".
These polls are now being used for "mind control".
Just one more reason I NEVER travel to this Communist state! If Romney’s elected President then i’M LEAVING THE COUNTRY!
Romney has a large lakeside home in New Hampshire.....he actually lives in the state part time....nearly a “native son.”
We’ll see who wins the larger states in next year’s primaries.
Take a look at what I’m researching:
For someone who has been here since 2002 you have learned a damn thing! Every time a RINO is nominated, the DemonRats win. Every time a RINO is elected the DemonRats win. You want to back this socialist go right ahead, but make sure you scurry back into your Daily Kos hole in the ground!
Notice how ABC News finds Pawlenty’s 8 percent “impressive” even though TPaw and his supporters have “been working New Hampshire.”
But Sarah Palin, who have never been to the state, finishes just one point behind Pawlenty and she doesn’t get any credit for it.
The Democrat/Media Complex is trying real hard to pick the next GOP presidential nominee.
We can’t let that happen again. There’s even more at stake this time than 2008!!
“The Democrat/Media Complex is trying real hard to pick the next GOP presidential nominee.”
Yea! Just like they picked McCain....to take a DIVE.
Romney AND Pawlenty are mayonnaise sandwiches on white bread.
no offense, but Romney being elected is like the New England Patriots beating the Jets last week.....sounds like it should happen, but it didn’t.
If you check you will find Mitt and his family have moved to NH .
My prediction is Mitt (pres) and Sarah (vice), the “man and wife” team working to put America back to work.
Maybe it will be Mitt-Palin, but I got sucked in once by McCain-Palin and voted for the RINO because of Palin on the ticket. No more. Sorry, I will not donate to or work for the national Pubbies or such national ticket. I’ll work for local conservative candidates and just simply let the national scene work itself out.
Or maybe I’d vote for Obama this time. I’d rather be stabbed by someone who acknowledges they are my enemy than by someone who pretends to be my friend. Electing Mitt over Obama is simply voting for slow motion socialism over something a bit faster.
They`ll have a lot of the bases covered: Mitt appealing to RINOs and Sarah to conservatives. Don`t vote for Obama because you are right, he will stab you. At best Palin will temper the RINO in Mitt and things will be somewhat conservative (at least fiscally).
I am not voting for a man that signed socialized medicine into law in his state, even if he exhumes the Gipper to be his running mate.
I thought McCain won republican primaries! How silly of me!
I forgot that the Democrat/leftwing/Media complex are the real king makers.
