Mercury is a liquid metal and turns into thousands of little balls that act like shrapnel.
Being liquid at ambient temperature, in an explosion it would be pretty much instantly vaporized.

You are thinking ‘liquid’ as in water or oil.
Liquid mercury is very, very heavy, like lead. I would not want to be hit with a mercury blob at any velocity..................
