RNC proposes its own debates—to raise money (apparently those who attend gets the donor list)

The Republican National Committee is proposing to sponsor a series of monthly presidential primary debates beginning in August and running through February in which the RNC would determine the format and require each participating candidate to raise money for the party at the event, according to an email obtained by POLITICO.

In a message sent Friday night, James Bopp, the party’s Indiana committeeman and chairman of a special debate committee, asked aides to potential GOP candidates to agree to six RNC-sanctioned debates in which “the RNC or its designee may at its discretion determine the time, place, co-sponsors, format , subject matter, moderators, and participants.”

Under the plan, laid out in a one-page memo co-signed by RNC Chief of Staff Jeff Larson, the candidates would still be allowed to participate in other, non-party sanctioned debates. But the RNC is offering an incentive to lure the hopefuls to their plan: access to the party’s vast fundraising list and voter file.

“Those candidates invited to participate in RNC-sanctioned debates will be allowed to participate in a list exchange with the RNC,” writes Bopp.

The RNC has scheduled a debate with Fox News in May!!!

This, after politico/nbc had to reshedule theirs in May for lack of participation! politico/nbc is now scheduled for September. LOL.

The RNC has become a giant scam.

I'm not so sure. It could be to keep the lib media from controlling the debates. They have gotten some complaints for allowing NBC/Politico to host.

I predict not only will Palin not participate, she'll announce she won't.

End of scheme.

The GOP, as a party, is in it's death throes. Without complete overhaul it will meet it's end.

RNC to Sarah Palin: “Play ball with us or take a hike.”

That’s the message here from an RNC firmly back in the hands of the Establishment.

...”the RNC or its designee may at its discretion determine the time, place, co-sponsors, format , subject matter, moderators, and participants.”

Will West, Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Trump et. al. be invited to participate?

Maybe the Tea Party should sponsor some debates and determine the time, place, co-sponsors, format , subject matter, moderators, and PARTICIPANTS.

Fools. When she announces, almost all the money goes to her. Money is literally sitting on the sidelines waiting for her announcement. I laugh everytime I read the amounts the others have raised....LOL.

My opinion is that Sarah is not going to participate in any GOP primary debates, regardless who's sponsoring it and who's moderating it. What she's going to do, is webcast or broadcast on TV a video highlighting Obama's failures, explaining her record and background, and offering specific solutions.

And I don't blame her one bit. She said she's going to run an unprecedented campaign, and something like this falls right up her alley. No candidate, especially her, can give a 2 min soundbite answer among 8 other candidates that'll be twisted the next morning in 10-pt font on the NY Times.

Palin is going to talk directly to the voters. At the most, she will give live interviews with local TV news anchors, and she will create a state-of-the-art website and empower her supporters to double as reporters and live-blog every event she holds. She will completely disregard the Beltway and the lamestream media. It will truly be the first 21st-century political campaign.

I think that you’re right EEE. And plus, she knows that the RNC is out to destroy her, and any format or rules that it might impose on these things would bet to her disadvantage while benefiting Romney, Pawlenty, Daniels, Barbour etc. And she’s already got a network of 3 million die hard Facebook supporters, most of whom are going to work for her on the ground, and so she doesn’t need the RNC and its high-and-mighty donor list. Screw the RNC!
