Pres 2012: So By Now You Probably Heard, The Huckster Is Out (Predicts it's Palin vs. Romney)
Blue Arkansas ^ | May 15, 2011

Posted on 05/15/2011 10:21:38 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I took a much needed break this weekend with friends and family and so I wasn’t around to blog the big news. Mike Huckabee is out of the running for the Presidential nomination.

Now, I said as early as February 22nd that I was betting Huckabee wouldn’t run. So I’m happy to have a winning prediction under my belt. But besides that, this really shakes up the calculus for 2012.

Iowa is now going to be wide open, and it leaves the “not Mitt Romneycare” position as one much easier to fill. The question is, who does this benefit? Palin? Bachmann? Someone else? Personally, I’ll be bold and say that Sarah Palin jumps in later in the year and consolidates that large chunk of the far right base that is, for all intents and purposes, the majority of the Republican Party. It will be her and Romney clashing state to state, right up to the end. Of course I reserve the right to be wrong, but after calling Huckabee’s non run for what it was I’m feeling lucky.

This also makes things easier for Dems in Arkansas. 2012 may end up being rough, but it’s starting to look, potentially, better than last year. Sure Obama isn’t going to help Democrats in Arkansas out, but Mike Huckabee would have come to the table with very real, and long, coattails in this state. As unpopular as Obama has been here in this state, I can’t see someone like Romney, Palin, or Gingrich getting Arkansans fired up for the Republicans. And while it may not make things a great deal easier, there is a big difference between a fired up base and a base that is holding its nose, especially if things continue to get worse for Republicans across the board as seems to be happening.

As for the Mike Huckabee Presidential Fan Club in Arkansas? To them I say get over it. Your man was a con-artist who was using you. All he cares about is himself and making money. So much for that “Godly preacher” business. Oh, and you get so very few chances in politics. This was probably Huckabee’s last, best shot to be President. It will not come around again.

AR was one of just 3 states that I believe McCain did better in in 2008 than W did in 2004. I think Palin would fire up AR just fine.

I was just thinking that maybe Huck should have done the announcement later because now the MSM/AP will be sharpening their knives now that the candidates have been trimmed. There’s still a long way to go before filing anyways.

I'm no Huck supporter, but that's a hard conclusion to draw from this story. Doesn't matter though; he's not running.

Well, if it’s Palin or Romney. Pailin gets it. The Dem’s will vote for Romney, but the conservatives pretty much don’t like him. He’s a RINO and not one of us.

Who ever the Republican nominee is, he or she either needs to have a billion that they are willing to spend or raise the cash.

I don’t think Mitt would commit a billion if he had it, and he sure as hell isn’t going to get the average Joe to kick in. Trump probably has it and would spend it, but I don’t think he’s that conservative. Palin could probably raise it... and she IS conservative.

Somehow I doubt it’s going to be Palin versus Romney.

Might be, but I think Romney’s pretty much toast with real conservatives, and Palin’s toast, unfortunately, with a lot of people due to Palin Derangement Syndrome in the media.

That opens things up for a lot of other people.

Well, I’m going to raise $2 million dollars for Gov. Sarah Palin and I challenge each of her supporters to raise at least $10,000. I will show them how. BTW, Mr. Obama doesn’t have that billion dollars yet and may not ever get it. He was a novelty back in 2008, but not anymore. And as Rush Limbaugh has said, every gas station price board is a free advertisement for the Republican candidate and their party. And I’ll add that every price tag in Walmart, Kroger, King’s Soopers, Publix, Winn-Dixie, etc is also a free ad for the GOP.

Propaganda works with a very large segment of the American population.

Personally, I have no problem with Sarah Palin. I think she would probably make a good President. I just doubt that she can get there after the degree to which the media has poisoned her image.

Hey, I’d be happy to be proven wrong. I just think we have to be realistic about her chances.

1. Herman Cain. We’ve NEVER elected someone to the presidency who hasn’t held an elected or flag officer position. EVER.

2. Tim Pawlenty. Yawn.

3. Chris Christie. Gun-grabber. Pro-911 mosque, etc.

4. Michele Bachmann. Only one individual has ever won the presidency with just the House of Representatives on their resume. In a strange four-way race. Do you see 2012 being a 4-way race and Rep. Bachmann as Abraham Lincoln?

5. Rick Santorum. Couldn’t win his own state.

6. Bobby Jindal. Probably not a natural born citizen, as his parents were not American citizens at his time of birth.

Look, you can continue to believe whatever you want. I'm not stopping you. Nor do I wish to belittle Palin in any way. Like I said, I think she would probably make a good President.

But calling me names doesn't change reality.

The reality is that the media has, SO FAR AT LEAST, been pretty successful in poisoning the public's view of her. If you deny that, then you're just not in touch with reality.

Can that reality be changed? I don't know. Maybe. It's worth a shot. If I were her, I would probably run and see if I could do it. Anything's possible in politics.

But for now, at least, polls consistently show her with high negatives. Not with you, not with me, but with the people who are actually going to vote in this country.

Or have you forgotten about them? That THEY, not you or me alone, choose the next President?

A Gallup poll LAST month said that 65% of Americans would definitely NOT vote for Palin as President:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/147272/not-vote-trump-palin.aspx

I'm not quite sure how you overcome 2/3rds of voters having already decided they're not going to vote for you. If you know, you need to contact Palin's team.

Does Palin herself, and her team, acknowledge the REALITY of that public perception? If they're even halfway, remotely competent (and I have no doubt they are), then they know what the score is.

By the way, I'm quite used to ad-hominem attacks by people who simply want to deny plain, obvious documentable reality, so feel free to make as many more as you like.

You could be right about those (and certainly are about a lot of them).

I personally think the USSC would probably rule that both BO and BJ are natural born citizens. Of course, we don’t have that ruling. But at this point, especially with Obama’s precedent and unless that precedent is overturned (unlikely IMO) I think Jindal, whatever some here may believe, probably has a shot. At this point I personally would pull that lever.

Of course, I’d pull it for a number of the others, too.

I don’t know that Jindal’s going to run, though.

And that's how you are doing it! They have NOT been successful and you keep speaking THEIR talking points - they FAILED and you keep saying they were successful. They tried for 2.5 years and came up with NOTHING!!

And you speak of reality? Now I call you a troll! I knew if you posted enough you'd out yourself. Tell us - where were they successful - show us what did they do or say they stuck with 'the people'. Let's hear it.

A poll watcher! LOL! how clueless are you? You believe whatever your read from the media but you wouldn't know a conservative when you see/hear one. Polls are just another propaganda tool by the media. How old are you anyway? High school, I'm thinking. Although, I know some high schoolers and they aren't so easily taken in.

But for now, at least, polls consistently show her with high negatives. Not with you, not with me, but with the people who are actually going to vote in this country.

Don't include me in with you. You lie because you believe what they say! A poll watcher - a pablum eater out of liberals hands and you are looking for credibility? LOL! Get lost.

They couldn't destroy her in the media - so now they are 'trying' to convince the clueless in their polls and you buy it hook line and sinker and come here and spread their propaganda. Try it somewhere else - you are way over your head here. Sometimes I bother with you trolls when I want to kick some sh!! and other times I ignore you liberals.

Ronald Reagan was behind in the polls into October, 1980 - and proceeded to blow away Jimmy Carter when we actually voted in the general election.
John McCain was the nominee in '08, and he showed how not to run agains Obama. Romney would make no effective attacks on Obamacare, at a time when defeating Obama will be critical to any hope of saving medical choice.

McCain used to joke about the media being "my base." How did that work out in a race for the presidency against a liberal Democrat?? We know that "objective" journalism is interested only in its own importance, and that "liberals" get that positive labeling simply because they agree with "objective" journalism that "objective" journalism is more important than food, clothing, and shelter.

Since the Democrats are in symbiosis with "objective" journalists, it should - if your take is valid - be impossible for be impossible for any Republican to be elected president, ever. But that is not the case. In fact, Reagan won big, even with a Republican running as an independent in a three-way race. Landslides occur when things line up in a perfect storm - a weak incumbent, a bad economy, a charismatic challenger. There was nothing the media could do to save Nancy Pelosi's majority last year, and the way things are headed at the checkout register and the gas pump, there won't be anything the media can do about a Republican victory next November, either.

How many of the examples you have cited have had the high negative ratings that Palin has in recent polls. Since from at least the first of the year Sarah has had high unfavorable numbers. In a very recent NBC/WSJ poll 53% of those polled had unfavorable feelings about Sarah Palin. I fully expect for you to explain that any poll in which NBC participated is not to be trusted and my response will be with polls others have conducted. Polls do not figure strongly in forming my opinions but I follow them to see how people preferences are trending.

Based on the others in the field (or expected to be in the field on primary day) if Sara's name is up there, right now, I'd have to cast my vote her way (despite the sometimes annoying accent). But, I think you are correct regarding the media's influence on the voting public.

If and when she decides to jump in the game, I want to see a few debates before my decision is made. Not that I don't think she could do the job, I just want to see if she's learned to take care of herself better when faced with a hostile media and Democrat Party. She will be facing hostilities from half her own party as well so I hope she's been training hard.

Your response was exactly what I was expecting. It may well be that all polls show Obama is winning which suggests that we attempt to pick the strongest candidate we can and further suggests we should not choose a candidate with high negative ratings. I agree with Sarah on most, if not all, of the issues but I am not willing to nominate someone who may hand the election to Obama.

I don't if you are old enough to remember the Johnson/Goldwater election in which after the election polls showed a majority of the public held views more closely to Goldwater than Johnson. Which goes to show how powerful images created by the media are and how these images influence the outcome of elections.

If we can’t get the most popular Governor in America, one of the two top candidates, a proven phenomenal campaigner, a whirlwind that delivered one of the greatest conservative elections in American history in 2010, and the true fighter of the 2008 Presidential election cycle into the White House because of media problems, then we may as well give up entirely and never try to break out of the Bob Dole, Mitt Romney, HW Bush, John McCain list of media approved GOP candidates ever again.

Governor Palin is something that we never expected, a second Reagan conservative that is an Alpha politician, the reality is that we never have that in a front tier candidate, ever, Palin is a rare fluke, we have no choice but to give this all we have, or else freerepublic may as well give up on Presidential politics and concentrate on lessor elections only.

I'm thinking Jindal won't enter the race, and Christie has repeatedly said he's not going to run.

Of your list, the only one who might challenge her if she runs is Pawlenty. He's a bit boring, but he's got some staying power.

If she runs, I think she's got the capacity to outdo the media. A major part of her campaign would likely be showing the lies and bias of the media. If anyone can run a campaign on the falsehoods of the media to the American public, it would be her. Whoever runs will have to take them head on for all their in the tank for Bambi corruption, and she's got the best chance of doing that correctly.

Ignore the psychopaths. They're abject embarrassments to the majority of Palin supporters who happen to be sane.
