Can any Republican presidential candidate withstand being Palinized?
Legal Insurrection ^ | Professor William A. Jacobson

Posted on 06/25/2011 9:18:54 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Not a fan of Ed Rollins, but you know that. I guess this qualifies as Part 3 of the “Hey Ed Rollins, you deal with it” series.

More than not being a fan of Ed Rollins, I keep questioning why Michele Bachmann started her campaign by having Rollins attack Sarah Palin in very demeaning terms, and if it was not planned, why Bachmann did not fire Rollins on the spot.

That question becomes important because as Bachmann rises in the polls and spotlight, the process of Palinizing her by the left-blogosphere and mainstream media also is rising. The disgusting Rolling Stone article about Bachmann is tame compared to what is to follow.

Scott Johnson at Power Line Blog, linking to a cover article at The Weekly Standard about Bachmann, makes a point I have been asking here for years every time an establishment Republican or Republican know-it-all lashes out at Palin; can anyone withstand the Palin-treatment:

Reading Continetti’s article, I wonder if anyone can withstand the treatment that Michele will elicit from the media if she emerges as a serious player in the nomination process. If anyone can, Michele might. But can anyone?

The answer is maybe, but only if we are united in defending that person.

Republicans did not uniformly defend Palin when she falsely was accused of complicity in the Arizona shooting, and establishment types like David Frum piled on Palin. We see that process of piling on almost daily among Republicans, and Rollins was just the latest and most high profile example.

Bachmann, by keeping Rollins on staff, has signaled that she is not ready for the type of unity needed to defend all Republican candidates against Palinization. Ironically, Bachmann is the candidate who needs that unity the most.

Update: If you think I am against Bachmann, you would be very wrong. In fact, I have been a consistent supporter and defender of her almost since the beginnning of this blog, including these posts:

•March 24, 2009, Phony Outrage Over “Armed and Dangerous” •March 24, 2009, Yet Another Cheap Attack On Michele Bachmann •September 26, 2009, Ghouls Preparing To Dance On Bill Sparkman’s Grave •November 1, 2009, Adirondack Doug Gets The Caribou Barbi Treatment •May 18, 2011, So Tell Me About Michele Bachmann

It is precisely because I think Bachmann has so much to offer that I am at a loss to understand her hiring of Rollins and weak response to his attack on Palin.

I do not think that most people could endure the mistreatment that the media has committed against her.

I think, MB is running for vice-president. Too bad for her that she and Ed Rollins burned her friendship with Sarah Palin and her supporters.

Positively Palin

HER PING LIST

“One individual already has.”

That’s right. Palinization can only be defined as having all the media’s guns fired on you repeatedly, and you still come stronger than before.

It’s hard believe anyone but Palin could accomplish it. At this point, it seems that Bachmann has received more support than criticism from the leftist media. And this is easy to figure out—it’s that they want Bachmann to rise so that she will take primary votes away from Palin.

The Marxists do not fear Bachmann. But they wet their pants at the mention of Palin’s name.

I will not defend Whatshername-Rollins, period.

Thanks for ping onyx. All the candidates (’cept Newt) seem to be doing ok in spite of the media. Lots of political noise right now ... drowns out the actual story.

The real question should be:

Can any democrat at any level withstand being Obamasized.

The November elections last fall suggest, no.

There is already more political wisdom on this thread than the MSM pundits dream about.

Sarah is feared precisely because she is not one of the Beltway inner circle.

She is not going to play ball with either the Dems or the GOP.

She is going to do what is right for America.

And that is why the Beltway crowd is so afraid of her. She will go Alaska on them like she did in Juneau.

The gravy train is over.

I agree with you Onyx - I too think MB is running for VP and you are also right in that she and Ed Rollins made a big mistake.

The people that support Sarah Palin do not appreciate seeing her treated less than well by someone she helped out.

"The gravy train is over."

That is why the GOP and the Democrats will do whatever they can, via their media arm and all other devices at their disposal, to stop Palin.

She would be in a position to know everything dirty in DC...and we're all certain it's the dirty capital of the world...and she would prosecute. Where she could not prosecute she would loudly and publicly chastise...essentially running many folks out of town on a rail.

Whatever justice she would be able to mete, certainly the Gravy Train will have come to an end and the pigs will no longer be feeding at the trough.

what’s that saying. you shall reap what you have sown......

the gop establishment in their zeal to destory Palin since they couldn’t control her and since she was seen as a threat to mitt and the status quo set new rules and new guidlines. And by doing so they sowed the seeds of their own destruction. hummpty dummpty fell over and their isn’t anyone to put the party back together again. the reaction of the establishment of a Palin run will destermin if the party limps along for another couple years while palin tries to reform and restore it as the party of reagan or if it breaks for all time and something new grows from it’s ashes.

I think the big government liberals and big government gop would be happy in the same party and the Reagan republicans and reagan dems will form a second party.

Yep. I think she is the only one who could withstand it.

Palin can.
But can her candidacy and chances of election withstand it?
Can any Republican's candidacy and chances of election withstand being treated like Palin has?

Does the media thus pick our Presidents without elections?

Given what has happened to Palin, any candidate which the media shows in a good light, any candidate which the media supports, is automatically suspect. Bachmann is thus suspect.

Kind of presumptive of you to suggest you know what Palin thinks and feels about Bachmann or having Rollins on the payroll.

I don’t know about being suspect but I do think if she starts doing well they will throw the whole package at her that they threw at Palin.

The media may support Bachmann because they want her to get the nomination and THAT because they believe they can defeat her in the general election.
