There’s the stereotype of the Sarah Palin supporter, and then there’s Sonnie Johnson.
The 30-year-old African-American mother and wife is featured in “The Undefeated” as one of the many people Palin captivated when John McCain thrust her onto the national stage as his vice presidential running mate in 2008. In Pella, Iowa today for the premiere of the film, Johnson said she latched on to Palin when the former Alaska governor took the stage at the Republican National Convention.
“We were watching it on TV and my daughter was like, ‘A girl can be president?,’” Johnson recalled. “And I said, ‘Yes, baby, girls can do anything.’ That was the moment -- I saw that look in my daughter’s eye, that anything in possible. The next week, I went to my very first political event, and that was to see Sarah Palin. John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
Johnson has become increasingly involved in the tea party since then, speaking at tea party events around her native Virginia. She’ll give the keynote address at an event held by the Charlottesville, VA. tea party on the Fourth of July with her young daughter by her side.
“She’ll be on stage with me,” Johnson said. “I want to get her involved, little by little. I like to say that for the black community, nothing will change until we learn to love our children more than we love the Democratic party.”

An “unlikely” supporter only in the minds of progressives/socialists unwilling or unable to accept the fact that Republicans on the whole have been consistent and staunch supporters of our fellow citizens of negro descent, as fellow citizens and human beings presumed, absent clear reason to believe otherwise in individual cases, of being treated as such.
Without the active support of Republican Senator Dirksen, and Republican members of the Congress, Pres LBJohnson could not have achieved or claimed victory in passing certain landmark federal civil rights laws. Democrat votes of support were not there.
That is the central question which has been puzzling me, ever since Sarah Palin emerged on the national stage.
What on earth is there not to like about this woman? How can ANY American disagree with any part of what she stands for?
How can anyone look at her, and find someone to ridicule or belittle?
Naturally, I understand that there are a lot of people on the left who see her as an enemy to their world view, and who (rightfully) feel threatened by her patriotic, conservative agenda for America. She means to see this country restored to the America that was built by the Founding Generation. Nothing scares the violators and destroyers of the American Way, like one who would undo all of the leftist's hard work.
But, for those Americans who still understand what this country is supposed to be about, Sarah Palin is their best friend....whether they know it, or not.
I don't think it was a racist comment at all. It's simply a fact that very few blacks support Sarah Palin, or any other conservative candidate, for that matter.
I'm glad they had the courage to even post the story. About time they gave us conservative blacks a notice.
You make a good point. Perhaps ‘patronizing’ is a better description. I just wish the media would stop grouping people according to race, income,religion, etc. It is getting so tiresome.
The ugly truth is that it's we conservatives who are actually color/class blind. The libs accuse us of being racist, when it's practically all they ever think about.
The country would have moved on long ago from the subject of race, if libs didn't work overtime to keep the flames of racism burning.
They have to keep the warfare between classes and races going, in order to achieve the power and control they lust after. Where would they be, if every person in the country simply considered themselves to be American? Powerless, that's where.

Indeed. I suspect there’s an ugly streak of misogyny in our party. Nothing else explains the reaction of some people who call themselves Republicans to Sarah Palin. She’s obviously our superstar... even those boneheads don’t deny it, but they STILL would rather vote for someone else, and see some bland, “safe” (and male) candidate run... even if he’s sure to lose.
If Sarah runs, we’ll have to help her fight against our own party as well as the vile Democrats. If she DOESN’T run... oh... my. I don’t know. There’s simply no other candidate who interests me (including Bachmann).
My hat is off to all melanin enriched conservatives, and even more to melanin enriched conservative Palin supporters lol.

My family's heads spin whenever I talk about politics (due to my being the sole conservative in the clan). You ought to see how they react when I begin extolling Sarah Palin's virtues!

Every conservative that I know never brings up race, class, religion, gender, etc. unless it is in response to something the libs have done or said about such things. On the other hand....every lib that I know constantly dwells on such matters.
I was raised by Goldwater republican parents and my white mother was a civil rights worker in Mississippi during some of the most dangerous times. She had a real passion for the cause, but when the marxists took over the civil rights movement,she left it. She explained to me that the minute that they took over the movement, she realized it wasn’t about equality at all...it was about race baiting and keeping the black community dependent on the government. The civil rights movement lost many great warriors for the cause back then. The communist/marxists just wanted to use the whole movement to further their agenda. I detest the left.

She isn't Reagan. She's Sarah Palin. But, America went through similar negatism regarding Reagan and his chances of beating Carter, only to be proved wrong by his landside election wins.
I'd enthusiastically vote for Herman Cain or Michele Bachmann, but neither has the magnetism and star power of Sarah Palin.
In that, she definitely reminds me of Reagan and hers would be a similar landslide election win. That's my speculation.

There are lots of racists in the mainstream media (other than Jon Stewart). Most of them presume to know how black people are "supposed to think" and never get mentally beyond stereotypes.

I have a number of his books. They are works of deep scholarship, but written to be understood by all. His writings have greatly enhanced my understanding of humanity and economics.

Well, only occasionally, and I'll tell you why. I don't want to feel as though I'm pandering to their racialist instincts, by going out of my way to promote the writings of black conservative thinkers to them.
I would like for them to understand conservatism for what it is, not just because an esteemed black author happens to be saying it.
The other (and more important) reason, is that they're simply unreceptive to ideas that are right of center. Even my baby sister is 48 now, and if the folks have grown that seasoned with age, and are STILL liberals, I really don't think I can help them.
I, myself, crossed over after 40, but in my case, I was just finding my way home. I've always been the odd man out in the family, and never bought in to the more heinous aspects of liberal doctrine. I was always a conservative, but didn't know it. The rest are fully invested in liberalism.
