RAYMOND N.H. New GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann charmed a backyard of Granite State voters yesterday with her trademark straight talk but bristled at comparisons to fellow Tea Party star Sarah Palin, telling the Herald shes got a style all her own.
We both have unique skill sets. I have great respect and admiration for Gov. Palin, I consider her a friend, but I have a unique skill set that I bring to the table, said Bachmann, 55, after announcing her presidential campaign to New Hampshire voters yesterday morning.
Andy Schwargler, 45, of Orford, N.H., drove more than an hour to see Bachmann, saying he appreciates her down-to-earth style.
I like the fact that she speaks her mind. I dont get the feeling that everything coming out of her mouth is a political calculation, he said.
Granite State political observers said in yesterdays Herald that former Palin backers are warming up to the Minnesota congresswoman, a claim that Bachmann supported during a wide-ranging interview with the Herald.
Weve made multiple trips here to New Hampshire and the momentum is only growing and building and exploding and people that we have talked to have called up and said they want to leave the candidate they thought they were going to support and support me, Bachmann said.
Both Bachmann and Palin are anti-abortion Tea Party favorites known for their independent streaks and challenging business as usual in Washington, D.C. Both also have a blunt, tell-it-like-it-is speaking style that resonates with voters.
Bachmann said that while shed like Palins endorsement, she wont be reaching out to her.
I would love to have Gov. Palins support in this effort. I dont have her cell phone number so I dont know how to get in touch with her, but I wish her well, Bachmann said. She added, The field is wide open . . . people can come into the race, but I also know that people have resonated with my message.
Bachmann dismissed claims that her high-profile gaffes have undercut her campaigns credibility. She said Monday that movie legend John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa, when it was actually serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
Those are the small issues that quite honestly no one cares about, because everywhere I go people are concerned about the economy, Bachmann said.
Exhibiting her feisty no-nonsense style, Bachmann told the amped-up New Hampshire crowd that shed run the White House with a titanium spine while touting her economic know-how and her ability to load a shotgun and speak on the fly.
President Bachmann will be banning the teleprompter from the White House, she said in a dig at President Obama. The American people have had enough. Theyve had it up to here. . . . President Obama, you are a one-term president.
Delusions of grandeur. She is a kook.
Maybe Wallace was on to something...
For her Congress re-election fund raising effort , she was able to make calls to Palin. If she can’t find Palin number, what else she can’t do?
She claims that Palin supporters are "warming to her" and that people are leaving the candidates that they once favored and rushing to her. LOL
She claims that "..................people have resonated with my message.", which is not just a misuse/improper use of the word "resonates", but lousy English. And this from the woman who a bit later in the article claims that she will ban teleprompters from the White House and that she can talk well without one.
No,she isn't a Palin clone at all, she's a 10th rate Palin wannabe.
We don’t elect House members to the White House. Now I’m seeing the “why” of it, if you catch my drift?
People might have resonated with her message, but her message has not resonated with the people, neither Democrats nor Republicans. I know it’s a trivial slip of the tongue and that I shouldn’t be churlish. But either she or Rollins is orchestrating this badly. Brices wrote once speculating that Bachmann might be Palin’s Phil Crane. I hope not, but the evidence points ever more in that direction.
I know, I know, but this one is making things worse, not just week by week, day by day, but almost hour by hour. She’s a nasty passive-aggressive piece of work.
She really does have a big ego doesn’t she..thinking that everyone is “Warming up to her” I have no ill will for Michele Bachmann. I don’t think she is a bad person, heck I wanted her to be Sarah’s running mate, I thought it would be the perfect team Palin/Bachmann, but after some things have happened(Such as Michele not coming to Sarah’s defense when she was accused of murder) if she is her friend she would have defended her, of course we don’t know what went on behind the scenes but still
Actually, the truth is this: She said that movie legend John Wayne was from Waterloo, when it was actually his PARENTS.
Yes, John Wayne Gacy was from Waterloo. Why do you think that is? Maybe because he was named after a famous person who had ties to Waterloo?
Of course, the title is misleading as well, suggesting she was trying to say she was better than Palin, when she was saying they were two different people.
The evidence is that Michele wants to be president, has as big an ego as Obama, and is about as prepared to be president as little Barry was.........perhaps less so.
Well, she used to poll at under 5%, and how she’s polling in double-digits. Those new supporters are coming from somewhere.
We can tell that she is actually being considered a serious candidate, by watching how many freepers are coming after her. Got to keep the field clear, after all.
This is how we’ll end up stuck with Romney; conservatives taking pot shots at other conservatives trying to beat them down to leave room for their preferred candidate. That’s how we got McCain last time.
No, sorry, she is not less prepared than Bambam to be president. She was never a community organizer, has no shady roots or an absurdly thin resume. Besides that, I agree with everything you said.
I didn't hear her say movie legend or parents, are you sure you are quoting her?
You mean that is why Romney didn't get elected, or did you mean Huckabee?
Loose lips sink ships...and with that in mind I feel that Bachmans biggest liability could very well be the fact that she was a foster parent to so many teen girls. Not that she did anything wrong, but, rather that the MSM can project the teen angst of one foster girl and turn it into monthly rites of naked goat sacrifices.
That's NOT how we got McLame last time and you know it.
And FR has always been a bastion of escalating fights during the presidential primary season, as you very well know.
She was being snarky, implying that she was getting Palin supporters.
I remember that I liked Katherine Harris a lot for a while, until on FR, I started learning much more about her.
I was alluding to the fact that neither of them has had any political executive experience.
And the less so remark is that we, as a nation have elected sitting Senators, but only Garfield, from the House and he had military experience as well and that election was a fluke.
Very creepy, indeed;not to mention cringe inducing.
And Rollins ran the campaign that Harris lost.
Michele might be making it up! She said late last year that she calls Sarah all of the time, now unless Sarah got a new cell phone number or something, i doubt she has difficult getting in contact with her, just the fact that she and her staff was coordinating with Sarah’s and her staff in getting Palin up there to fundraiser for Michele and they are best friends make it almost impossible that she doesn’t have her number
She is delusional if she really believes that. Polls with and polls without show a pretty even distribution among the remaining candidates when Governor Palin isn't included.
She is a AA player in a major league game, being sustained in large measure by the conservative media. It remains to be seen how much longer they can keep her in it.
Are you kidding?
- “and people that we have talked to have called up and said they want to leave the candidate they thought they were going to support and support me,
Really?
LoL!
I doubt such silly schoolyard mentality.
Quite possibly so. There is a back story to Wallace's question that he wouldn't dare get into because he knows he is going to be around politics a lot longer than Bachmann. I think it MB's own party that calls her a flake. (Hence no real responsibility.)
I guess you are right, I just saw this.
She just wears people down, said political operative Ed Rollins.
He wasnt talking about his soon-to-be presidential candidate client Michele Bachmann or her frenemy Sarah Palin. He was talking about former Florida Rep. Katherine Harris. This was back in 2006.
Harris had, in fairness, been through three campaign managers. This is a lot. But Rollins had been Harris top strategist (this was just prior to his work with Mike Huckabee), and it is unusual for operatives to trash their candidates on the way out the door.
Thats precisely what Rollins did, however. (This is a pattern. Rollins also publicly attacked Arianna Huffington after working on her husbands campaign.)
One wonders if Rollins is aware that his new client, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, has been through five Chiefs of Staff in just over four years?””
I think that Bachmann IS delusional; hell......plain old nuts.
How long before we all know Bachmann is a flake?
The more she opens her mouth, the less I am impressed with her and understand why she would hire a sleeze like Ed Rollins.
No, that is a factual statement. That IS what it is. Rollins ran Harris’ campaign, the one she lost, after the 2000 election stuff. AND HARRIS LOST.
And this is just SO damned typical of Rollins! He really does trash people, a lot, and even those he has worked for.
Lots of people know this, know his history, and why Bachmann hiring him was just mind blowing to us.
No more than 400 at a public venue in Myrtle Beach in the summer.
Heck, Governor Palin had 1000 who just wanted to see a movie with her.
In an obscure Iowa town, no less...
Bachmann's quotes, in this article, are dreadful! Not many will know about them, but I'm certainly going to be telling everyone I know all about them, as well as the gaffes.
I didn't start out disliking her, but with every day, she gives me more reasons to not just dislike her, but to not trust her at all.
Rollins also said that Michele Bachmann was “Not a serious candidate” back in January of this year..makes ya wonder why Bachmann would hire a guy that trashed her on national TV
I guess MB got a lot smarter once she stroked him a check...
yep!
Reporters still ask MB about Governor Palin. They do that because it is obvious the subject sticks in her craw. How dare this Tax Attorney, foster mother of 23 be compared to a commoner.
That is part of what I take away from Mrs. Bachmann's attitude.
pride cometh before a fall...had she been smart, she’d be aspiring for something like a Senate position or Speaker of the House...and endorse Palin...now with all the scrutiny and true colors being exposed: Bachmann risks wrecking her political career as a whole.
If Bachmann gets any snarkier, the MSM are going to love her up royally...............until Palin gets in and dethrones the self proclaimed "QUEEN OF THE TEA PARTY", as well as all the others.
Bachmann begged Palin to come and help her, during the last election, because she was having trouble. I think that the people who know her best, those in her own state, see her for who she is.
The media has been trying since the beginning to have a Palin Vs. Bachmann..because they want to get rid of them both. I even posted last week, that the media is waiting for Michele to say ONE bad thing, one nasty thing about Sarah Palin and they have won, because that is what they want and Michele is falling into the trap. Seriously, she doesn’t have her phone number?? The second I read that one it made no sense..unless Sarah changes her phone number every few months she has the number. I think the praise Bachmann has been getting from the press is giving her a big ego, which is what the media wants to have happen
That being said, it'll be a one sided fight, as iyt has been thus far, because I can't see Palin lowering herself to fight in the gutter with Michele. Palin will just beat her in the debates, in how much money she raises, and by wining the primaries; GOD willing.
I really doubt that Mrs. Bachmann will make it to February 2012. She is a ticking time bomb.
I think she will come up with come wild accusation that the press is badgering one or more of her foster children and quit for the family.
She beat out a sitting governor ( no, I won't attempt to spell his name, I know it, but am too lazy to go look it up right now ), but how?
Oh that oil reserve statement of hers had me picking my jaw up off the floor. Gaffes are one thing, mixing up Concord Mass. with Concord N.H. is stupid, calling John QUINCY Adams a FF was also stupid, saying that John Wayne was born in her hometown was wretchedly stupid, but the strategic oil reserve comment? THAT WAS COLLOSSALLY IGNORANT, NOT TO MENTION MORONIC!
So many of Mrs. Bachmann's whoppers come in prepared, supposed researched and validated/verified, remarks. That just blows me away.
She can't talk well without a telepromter and I wonder if she can even use one.
