"I kind of like these polls, because they really do measure electability from candidate to candidate pretty well."

I learned from the 2006 election not to blindly dismiss the polls. The polls leading up the the election predicted a Democratic takeover of Congress. Must of us on this site rejected the polls. While I do not swear by them, neither do I reject them out of hand.

You must be joking. If this poll were to be believed Paul would be the second most electable candidate? Now, I'm hardly an RP hater (as some FReepers are) but to be honest, he'd have no chance in a general election. If by some bizarrity he ended up with the nomination we all know he'd end up competing with Goldwater numbers.

PPP surveyed 795 Texas voters from June 25th to 27th. The margin of error for the survey is +/-3.5%.

It says "voters" but not "likely voters."

It's PPP, a Democrat polling firm meaning it tells us more about who they want to run against than what would-be voters think.

Hard to imagine Obama taking Texas even if the GOP ran a flake.

How does Texas, which voted McCain in 2008, vote for Obama in 2012 now that Obama has an abysmal record to defend?

when it’s said that the selection of candidates is poor, are they saying they want Palin in? I mean there isn’t anyone out there that’s being talked about joining that’s the stature of Palin.

The argument could be that there are no good republicans at all, is that it?

a new poll from the Public Policy Polling group found.

The PPP is a Democrat polling outfit; says so right there on their polls.

Well, I am a RP supporter, but I had been assuming that RP is a tough sell. I would not have thought to use the “electability” argument in support of Ron Paul.

But there you have it. Obama only gets 40% against Ron Paul.
How would this be explained? It’s not that his favorable / unfavorable is so great either.

If you’ve got 10 candidates, you can have a wide swings in results based on who you call. But here, you’re finding that Ron Paul is, I don’t know, getting votes from people who don’t like him perhaps.

Could be either lying to pollsters, or something is taking place that’s hard to explain. Maybe Ron Paul is strong with a certain type of independent? But that’s not it. It’s not that RP’s number is high, it’s that Obama’s number is low vs Ron Paul. Certain of Obama supporters would consider Ron Paul before any other Republican candidate.

It’s interesting because it isn’t expected at all.

truthfreedom "I kind of like these polls, because.."

Of course you do. All RomneyBOTs like Romney-PPP fake polls
because it makes their backstabbing saboteur democrat
APPEAR to be 'winning'.

Take Romney back to the DNC with you.

“I’m already wondering who will take Perry’s place as governor.”

Don’t wonder. With Sarah Palin as president, Governor Perry will have an ally in the White House.

And the perpetually confused Marxists will cry and wimper even as they replenish their ability to agitate with the fruits of capitalism and the freedom which can only come from a Christian directed nation.

Oh, no, you got me wrong. Romney Sucks. Perry Sucks and Romney Sucks. Many of the other candidates are pretty much irrelevant. Bachmann is turning out to have a problematic background, gaffes aside.

I’ve been called a Palin-bot and a Romney-bot in the last 2 hours.

If they polled only Sheila Jackson Lee’s district.

This may be the biggest bullshit whopper out of a commie since... 1917.

They could have polled the better part of Austin and UT to get that result. No way odummer wins Texas in the general.

Obama won’t get 25% of the vote in Texas over any Republican. This poll is BS. We’re not going to vote for real conservatives but will vote for Romney? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, in all honesty a lot of my friends are little (L) Libertarians so most aren’t happy about Romney or Perry. I think everyone assumes Romney will win the nomination which I don’t think will happen.

I believe that unless Palin jumps in, this is Perry’s to win or loose. Perry will decimate Obama in the general and I’m ok with that; will the most conservatives feel the same?

The most likely scenario is a Palin romp.

She’s the best known and best liked Republican by far.

I agree, if she enters the race she wins the nomination and general which I’m more than ok with. I think a wet noodle running on the GOP ticket would beat Obama but again, a lot of things can happen.
