ATLANTA, Ga. -- Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has boasted about his 1.3 million-strong following on Twitter, but a report out Monday suggested a majority of his virtual flock is fake.
"I have six times as many Twitter followers as all the other candidates combined," Gingrich told the Marietta Daily Journal in an interview published Sunday. He was discussing a Politico report that chalked up the former House Speaker's Twitter success -- he has more than twice as many followers as the social media-savvy Sarah Palin -- to his "personal touch" since he "tweets and manages his Twitter feed himself."

Pathetic. Go back to Tiffany’s Newt.
Hmmm... interesting. Newt has the largest number of followers using the default Twitter profile picture that I’ve ever seen.
I kind of doubted this story until I went to look at who his followers are. I’m more convinced now.
I’m not a Newt fan but I find it extremely weird that the Gawkers never checked to see how many of their boy’s followers are fake. I’d be willing to bet it’s around 80%.
Pretty pathetic... reminds me of “imaginary friends”. I hate a liar even with trivial matters.
Did you ever think you would see the day that followers on a dumb website called Twitter would even be discussed regarding the Presidency?
That would be easy to check. OKAY, Freeps with twitter accounts, go and see if thats true. lol
I hate to tell you how much of an increase I got in online sales in my business using Twitter and Facebook.
Many (more than I have ever seen)have no photo just the Twitter default pic. That's odd.
Good for you. My age is showing. :-)
Another thing I noticed. I quickly chose at random 4 of his followers with the default pic and neither of them ever posted anything. 0 Tweets.
Not looking good for Newt
Most of Newt is fake, too, so it’s OK.
Are you able to see if they have any followers or following anyone else?
Listen to this one. My mom who is 76 cant get off Facebook. We have a friend named Ernest Smith. He lives in the same state as us. My brother’s mother-in-law also on FB made friends with him too and now they go to church together.
I thought this man was probably 70 and found out he’s 93!
He’s a WW1 veteran. Always on Facebook. Very nice man. Very interesting man.
Yep. It looks like a few of those fake followers are now “following” feeds from WSJ and Fox Sports and stuff, lol.
They have no real friends, waaahh
I thought all the WW1’s were supposed to have passed away? Wasn’t there a news report saying so a few weeks/months ago?
I’m sorry. I meant WW2
Correction: WW2 not WW1
Why are we discussing anything from Gawker. Those people are all perverted Fascist Pigs.
OK. It would be embarrassing if they had declared them all dead and one pops up. Then again, the MSM should be embarrassed by 100% of the crap they do.
We’re all getting old. I remember when WW1 vets were the age of my mom who’s in her mid 70s. Now they are all gone.
That makes sense. Most of Newt is a fake as well.
It's very telling. The more I think about it. I heard the WH does something similar. They have fakes posting on conservative forums.
I don’t see how anyone can come to the conclusion that Newt would garner anything more than 1-2% of the popular vote. OTOH, I guess there is a majority of people who believe that Juan McCain can feed himself his own oatmeal, so WTF do I know?
That so pisses off the establishment.
We've been pounding nails into it for fifteen years now, and he keeps coming back for more.
I’ll be 79 next month and have Facebook and Twitter accounts.
I love Facebook and hate Twitter.
Good for all the seniors in your life-——they sound like an up-to date bunch.
The only problem I have is I’m a “friend” of a couple of my grandchildren and I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut about some of their posts. I do keep my thoughts to myself though,or they’ll “unfriend” me. LOL
Interesting but no, not a WWI veteran.
I know. I made the correction already
I don't blame you there. I use Twitter for business only. I really could not get into Twitter for anything personal like I do for Facebook. Truthfully, I love Facebook and cant get into Twitter either.
Yup, but if this is true. It will expose Newt as a fake in an obvious way.
It's not your age that's showing. I don't understand why Twitter so popular. But I'm glad it is. :)
I will say that most of his Facebook fans are from outside of the country. I noticed that while he was still running for President.
Oh yeah, I see—sorry.
I think you mean World War II...to have fought in World War I, he would have been born around 1900, and would be celebrating his 111th birthday, or thereabouts.
Yup, he was born in 1920. I corrected it in the thread already
No wonder his campaign is in debt. Between this, Tiffanys, and his entire campaign staff quitting due to mismanagement, every day there’s a new reason to keep him away from this nation’s pocketbook. I never did understand why people thought Newt was so smart, when all he ever seems to do is make mistakes. Big, obvious, embarrassing ones.
There is now way - no way in hell - that is even remotely possible.
Heck, I’m convinced most of his hair now is fake.
I’m now even more frightened as I was before reading this. Old dudes on Facebook is kinda funny. I can see the interest. Good for them.
I can’t even get my 76 year old mother in law to get an ATM card! lol
Hmm, “those” kind of grandkids eh? Did they get it from the parents or the schools? lol
I thank god everyday that my mother and computers just don’t go well. But the phone? That’s another story.
I have no social accounts myself. Not really interested to have people I didn’t care for much in high school asking me how is life. And I know they do because my little brother is on FB and they ask about me.
I’ve been keeping up with my real friends even back to the old days of bulletin boards and baud rate modems! Of course after walking three miles in the snow up hill.
He’s a good policy wonk when talking (like a professor) but doesn’t have a clue how to actually do it (those that can’t teach).
“Hmm, those kind of grandkids eh? Did they get it from the parents or the schools? lol”
They attend one of the most liberal school systems in Massachusetts. Nuff said.
