Texas Grows Spending Almost 100% during Perry's Tenure

Posted on 08/14/2011 2:07:40 PM PDT by BereanBrain

During Perry's Tenure in Texas, Spending in Texas grew from about 49 Billion a year, to over 90 Billion a year. Texas budgets every 2 years, to the following show the budgets for both Bi-annums. Divide by two for average yearly spending.

Texas 2010-2011 Budget 182 Billion

http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Texas_state_budget

Texas 2000-2001 Budget was ~98 Billion and is available at

http://www.lbb.state.tx.us/Bill_76/Bill-76-4_Conference_Summary_0599.pdf

In other words CLOSE to 100% Growth in spending. (from 49 B to 91 B)

During this time, the Census says Texas grew from 20 Million (2000 Census) to 25 Million (2010 Census). That’s a growth of 25 Percent.

So much for Perry's Fiscal Conservative Credentials.

I knew this was coming and I predict this will be a serious piece of ammo for Palin. I heard he spent our rainy day fund over the next few years that is supposed to be for things like a EMP or Nuke attack...oh well.

Simple question.

Are you looking for excuses or the answer (the truth).

You question sounds like what happens when little billy gets caught with his hands in the cookie jar. “ Yesterday Susie stole a cookie”.

The question is not what others have done, it is what is right to do.

Is it right to run up state spending as a percent of the state’s GDP?

At some point, it is unsustainable. The politicians are just playing “last man holding the bag”.

Unfortunately the electorate are easily fooled and don’t check the facts vs what the candidates SAY.

So no matter what I or the candidates say, do your homework.....

If you want to vote for a big government guy, go ahead. Just don’t post on here that he is a small government guy.

With annual inflation and a huge population influx, the numbers do not seem out of whack. Perry is not 100% in line with my beliefs but if he is electable and can remove the liar-in-chief that is currently POTUS, I will not go against him. BTW, the fact that he knows something about farming and agriculture, got fed up with the Democrat party and left it, has tried to keep taxes low and businesses robust are good things. I like many of the Republican candidates but don’t think all of them have the resume of Perry to put against Obama’s empty one. I hope we don’t start attacking our own candidates and snatch defeat from the jaws of potential victory.

Then the US has no hope, as Rick Perry is a RINO version of Obama.

Spending growth in State government is not always a bad thing, if it is done in an orderly manner, and for proper purposes. For example, there is a lot of infrastructure creation and repair that cannot be mainstreamed into a budget, as they are special projects, limited in scale.

And other expenses, such as meeting unemployment benefits, are far more dependent on how the State economy is doing.

Since one of the largest expenses in a State is education, population growth, which Texas has been getting a lot of, because of its economy, has a strong impact on financing.

And of course disasters. It cost Texas a fortune to host so many Katrina evacuees.

There is a reason Perry runs near the bottom of EVERY Texas poll of Potential Presidential candidates.

We know his words do not match his actions.

What percentage is due to unfunded federal mandates such as the massive largess provided to illegal immigrants.?

Texas has one of the lowest tax burdens in the us and maintains billions in a rainy day fund.

It’s good that Texas has oil and has not banned it’s extraction like so many others.

If I were you I would discourage any of Perry’s opponents from hiring you as a spokesman for them.

Careful. You’re gonna upset the Captain Gardasil groupies.

Yes, yes indeed....obama's a much better alternative.

And no, I am not a Perry fan but we're not going to turn around 100 years of commie infiltration in one Presidential election.

Let concentrate on putting more TP members in both chambers to keep what ever RINO gets elected.

That is our reality.

Texas has the lowest or close to the lowest unemployment rate in the nation. ‘Nuff said.

At least the Gardisil issue is a valid slam against the guy. There is no debating that the State of Texas is in one hell of a great place financially when compared to the rest of the U.S.

90 billion dollars, 25 million people. That’s $3600 per person.

In 2009, Alaska’s budget was 8.9 billion, and there were about 700,000 people. That’s $12,535 per person.

Why are we comparing apples and oranges?

The 2006 alaska budget was 7.4 billion. So the budget went up by 20% in her 3 years. That’s not quite 100% in 10 years, but it’s in the same ballpark. The 2000-2010 difference was 5.6 billion to 9.5 billion, over a 90% increase.

When criticizing Gov. Perry and the Texas economy, keep in mind that this very large state has NO state income tax. Also, the U.S. Census does not count the true population of the state. We have an 800-mile border with Mexico and are paying billions in benefits to tens of thousands of illegal aliens because the federal government orders Texas to educate, medicate and incarcerate them.

Actually, a good percentage goes to support illegal immigration.

Where?

Dream Act. Read about it. It makes illegals elligible for in-state tuition at texas universities and for grants, etc. Don’t forget the largest portion of uninsured in Texas hospitals are illegals. We all pay for that.

Sounds like you think “open borders” and “sanctuary cities” are good. Rick Perry does.

Read the next to the last paragraph and the fifth paragraph down, and then tell me Rick is not a Big Government, Open borders guy.

Yeah, and BEFORE RICK PERRY it was HALF of the tax burden.

So what if he did the same thing to the Federal Budget?

Have you seen the Texas Debt Clock?

We can thank Rick Perry for that.
