A push to adopt a more moderate California Republican Party platform was was defeated in the final hours of the party's fall convention in Los Angeles today.
The proposed language, which downplayed traditional GOP positions on gun rights, abortion and same-sex marriage, had come under fire from conservatives. Supporters had argued that the changes emphasized jobs and the economy and presented the party's issue stances in a way that would appeal to more voters.
The plan, backed by wealthy GOP donor Charles T. Munger Jr., failed to win approval from the CRP Platform Committee Sunday afternoon.
The committee instead approved an updated version of the current state GOP platform, which includes more detailed language sought by conservatives.

This is the Republican party that shoved budget eagle/slasher Tom McClintock off stage to shove Governor Arnold Kennedy front and center.

conservative, that is the ones the polls say Cali supports.
That is what I thought you meant, but I wanted to check, because many here are under the assumption that most Republicans in Ca are moderate.
Truth is most Republicans in Ca are still fairly conservative.
I am talking about the general population in California support this platform.
I can’t understand why the Republicans tried to even select a platform to the left of the electorate.
What the heck is that about?
I am not sure if you remember or not, but a few Months back there was an article linked her that some liberals in Southern Ca were going to sign up as Republicans for the express purpose of flooding the California Republican meeting to change the platform to the left.
They want to get a bunch of liberals running as Tea Party candidates to run against conservative Republicans to fool the electorate into putting in more moderates.
The conservatives in the Republican party are the only ones standing in the way of the left getting even more than they already have. The Democrats need three fourths to raise taxes without a ballot initiative, but the conservative republicans keep stopping them.
So they are going to try to get them out during the primary by confusing the republican voters into voting for Tea party candidates that are actually democrats.
Maybe that is what we are seeing with all this confusing reporting going on.
I think it is all the Republicans by themselves, they are doing it in other states as well.
They aren’t getting votes in these states because they have no principles and can’t explain their positions.
Surrendering to the Democrats isn’t going to change that.
True, the establishment republicans are thinking along those lines. What we need to do is start packing the party conventions with Tea Party candidates and pick the leaders we want.
When we fight like the left, then we will win. So like the left took control of the democrat leadership, we Tea Party conservatives need to take back our party.
It basically boils down to the leadership. The leadership is picked by those who will take the time and pack the local republican meetings, and vote for their representatives.
So we begin by packing the local meetings and send OUR representatives to the state conventions to make sure we get conservative leaders who will follow the values we hold.
