The Republican presidential candidates will gather for their second televised debate in New Hampshire on Tuesday night, when Bloomberg and the Washington Post host a forum centered entirely on the economy.
The back and forth on policy at the debate could be overshadowed by a bigger storyline: Can Rick Perry use the event to turn his turn his campaign around?
Perry, the governor of Texas, has lost his position as the front-runner in 2012 polls in recent weeks, amid criticism over his uneven debate performances. His position on Social Security, which he's described as a "Ponzi scheme" and a "monstrous lie" that ought to be administered by the 50 states instead of the federal government, will almost certainly come under scrutiny at the debate. His support for allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at Texas public universities is also likely to come up, as his rivals have cast the policy as fiscally unwise.
At the last three debates, Perry has struggled to defend his policies, and he has also had trouble delivering scripted attacks against Mitt Romney, his leading opponent for the Republican presidential nomination. Will Perry be better prepared Tuesday night?
The answer could determine the fate of his campaign for the White House. While Perry raised $17 million in his first weeks as a presidential candidate, money alone won't allow the Texas governor to overcome skepticism among Republican voters and party insiders about his ability to defeat President Barack Obama. Only a strong debate showing and a steady grasp of issues can do that.
If Perry can't regain momentum now, he will not be able to recover.....

Okay, since you didn't understand my response to your charge "this is a setup," let me put it in smaller words: Perry did it to himself.
It will be on Bloomberg TV, if you get that.
It will probably also be streamed at Bloomberg TV website.
Your correct, something does stink. It is senor ricarrdo hussein perrynista and his islam/muslim and illegal loving positions. No true conservative wants to see our country continue to be overun by these 2 insidious groups. LaRaza ricky sure seems to. He and those other to idiot fools, mitty and paul, can ALL go take a leap. NO MORE RINOS!
We don't need a tongue-tied Texan who sinks his boot into the cow pie then crams it down the throats of the conservative base he is trying to win over. Call me heartless. We are not impressed.
The debates have had a viewership of about 4,000 to 6,000.
Most potential voters are getting only what the news says after the debates.
The various straw polls are rather meaningless, if one looks at the similar polls from 2008 — which had Guliani taking the nomination.
All the ‘flavor of the month’ frenzy over Cain reminds me of the fury over Thompson in 2008.
Every wannabe is one sound byte away from a ‘macaca moment’ or a ‘Muskie meltdown’ or a ‘Deaniac scream’. The preference polls can chance on a word or phrase or look.
For all the current hoopla, first actual vote may not be until December or January. Then, the polls might have more accuracy and meaning.
“Perry did it to himself.”
I concentrated weally , weally hard and got your little words.
Question remains. That’s it? You took “heartless” personally? He scored that easily? No use in going any further with this. If Perry “did it to himself” I would ask how, but that question in itself would disregard all his achievements and potential. Thanks. Could you kick that bar out of the way?

LOL! LOL! So you’re a Paulie?
We don’t need a tongue-tied Texan who sinks his boot into the cow pie then crams it down the throats of the conservative base he is trying to win over. Call me heartless. We are not impressed.”
LOL! LOL! I can’t stop laughing. It’s like the word “heartless” is now the word “boo.”
Who is “we?” Cow pie? Tongue-tied? We are just dumb in wonderful Texas, aren’t we?
We already have a President like that: Baraq Hussein 0bama.
we want someone who can win the general election, someone that will also attract independents.
There are 2 big issues on which the majority of Americans, including independents, agree: Opposition to 0bamacare, and opposition to illegal immigration. Romney throws away the first issue, and Perry the second.
While debates are just one component of a campaign effort. Clearly, debates have grown in importance over the years and this time around its hitting a new high due to the influence of the 24-7 cable news cycle with Fox, CNN, msnbc, CNBC, FBN and Bloomberg. A candidate doesn't have to necessarily win any debates, but he or she must not be so bad as to stick out like a sore thumb. That was Perry's problem in the Fox/Google debate.
This is October, December and January are just around the corner.
Perry's practicing and practicing that line on the campaign bus (below). He's almost got it down pat.
Sincerely,
Heartless in Florida
The Muse
That's a lie; CA already had TX-style in-state tuition for illegals before the new bills. CA stands alone as a sanctuary state.
Neither. They're one-and-the-same.
Welcome to FReerepublic.. and not all of us Texans are on his bandwagon.
How sad,we went from a Republic to a feudal system in a century. But look on the bright side. You’ve got “Dancing with the Stars”
you’re wrong.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Illegal immigrants can now apply for state-funded scholarships and aid at state universities after Gov. Jerry Brown announced Saturday that he has signed the second half of a legislative package focused on such students.
I disagree. I think this one is all about Cain. If Cain blows it, they all will get another look-see. If Cain does well, he will be tomorrow’s winner. If the other guys hold their own, nothing changes.
However, if perry appears normal at the start and an hour later sounds again like michael Jackson on Propofol, he’s toast.
