Will makes a very good point. I don't usually find Will to be as brilliant as he evidently thinks he is, but maybe his Romney-Dukakis analogy will get through to some of the establishment types who are half-heartedly backing Romney because they believe (falsely) that he has the best chance to win.

I could have told you that in 2007.

Isn't Romney much more like Willie Horton than Dukakis?

Think of it this way. Horton became a political problem when the state of Massachusetts cut him loose for a weekend visit and he decided he needed to do a home invasion in Maryland where he beat the occupants and raped the wife.

Here we have the state of Massachusetts once again cutting loose a guy who'd earlier been housed and fed by the state government at public expense, and he's taken the opportunity to break into the Republican party where he's terrorizing the occupants (with a large wad of campaign cash), and for all we know may be joining Joe Biden in upping the rape rate.

I think we need to send Willard and Willy (if he's lose again) back home where they belong!

Oh, yeah, they offer FREE MEDICAL CARE for illegal aliens and there's going to be a hard winter this year. Mass is the place to be fur shur.

Frankly, I think either George is headed “round the bend” as the Brits say; or he is being facetious. For instance, this portion of his statement: “ “A technocratic Massachusetts governor running on competence, not ideology,”

I can’t remember anyone ever accusing Dukakis of being COMPETENT.....and with Romneycare smearing up his resume’ Mitt’s claim to competence doesn’t look real shiny, either....at least not to me!

I have heard him compared to Michael Dukakis and Thomas Dewey.

If only the Republican party still had a Lee Atwater. This character wouldn’t be polling over 5% if we did.

Romney the same as Dukaka? You've got to be kidding me.

Do these people know anything about politics? Dukaka was the biggest loser the dems have nominated in modern times.

Romney is certainly not the perfect candidate as far as conservatives are concerned but he is orders of magnitude better than Dukakis.

Sorry but this commentary is right up there with Juan Williams notion that if Sarah Palin gets in then Chris Christy would just have to enter the race. That one left me thinking, how in the world does this guy have a job as a political commentator.

I think it’s an apt analogy.

Are we sure that establishment Republicans want the GOP to win?

I’m not.

The real mystery is why anyone thinks Romney has a chance to win. He has been running for President for about half his life, at least that is the way it seems. So far he has managed to garner between ten and twelve percent nationwide popularity. Outside of New England it's probably much lower than that.

About all he can do with the nomination is supress turnout for Republicans running for other offices.

Like we needed Will to point out Romney sucks. The only two things Will has ever done for me is cure my insomnia and make me (a former Baltimore resident) dislike the Orioles.

I see lots of parallels here, if Mitt-Witt DOES become the GOP nominee, look for a weird and inverse re-creation of the 1960 ‘Rat ticket, aka the ‘Boston-Austin’ axis, with Mittens picking Rick Perry as his VP candidate.

The only difference?

That ticket will LOSE.

Kennedy, Kerry, Dukakis, Romney, - the last Presidential material from Massachusetts was John Adams.

YES! And we know what happened to Dukakis. I am not backing Romney because of (a) Romneycare, and (b) it seems obvious to me that he is not a “winner.” The American people don’t see Mittens as such and thus will not vote for him. Plus he will be sure to pull that same “gentlemanly” cr*p that did in McCain, and he’ll probably concede on election night as soon as humanly possible, just like McCain.

Gimme a fighter this time! And that ain’t Romney.
