Democrats are vicious infighters and play to win -- at all costs. Rules and civility are only called for when it is to their advantage. Republicans always seem surprised by underhanded and deceitful Democrat tactics.

News Flash for Republicans: this is NEVER going to change; learn to play hardball.

I wouldn’t count on the GOP. They see that the tea party is willing to capitulate and support their insiders so the tea party really doesn’t concern them much at this point.

And then when they lose the whip hand, they scream "unfair" every time they don't get to break the rules they made the other side live by. And of course the state-owned media goes right along.

The Democrats are not interested in any democratic process unless it provides them cover for their agenda.

That just means we need many more Tea Party supporters and we need to replace many of the thin skinned Republicans also.

For them, the ends justify the means. It’s why they are so deft at lying and perversion.

News Flash for Republicans: this is NEVER going to change; learn to play hardball.

I have been watching Republicans try to operate in the political arena now for thirty-five years, and they still haven't grasped that obvious truth. Republicans continue to give sanction to the Democrats for allowing them to set all the rules and standards for Republican actions and behavior - rules and standards which Democrats have no intention of following themselves. The term 'doing something because it's the right thing to do' will never ever ever be the motivation behind any Democrat action. Back in 2001 when the Senate was effectively split, the Republicans ceded an even split of power with the Democrats 'because it was the right thing to do', even though they still outnumbered Democrats 50-49. But when Jeffords jumped ship, the Democrats immediately took control of all committees, ensuring that each one had two more Democrats than Republicans even though the party split was now 49-49. You would think that after an infinite number of episodes of this that the Republicans would learn their lesson. As Ayn Rand once said, "In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit."

How to fix this?

Tar. Feathers. Rail. Simple.

The game should never be misunderstood. This is for it all. We as conservatives and Republicans should spare no expense in winning this battle. If we lose, we lose everything. Trying to win by being the “nice” guy is plain stupid. These are the scum of the earth who will rule us if we lose. There is no compromise or 2nd place in this one.

Great reply! It could be a stand alone post in its own right.

Dems have no respect for Republicans whatsoever because they know they'll cave in on nearly every issue due to their naive desire to be reasonable and their paralyzing fear of being criticized by the corrupt media. The obvious fact of the matter is that Dems and the MSM are going to hammer them no matter what they do. Given that reality, why not take a stand and fight back?

Its really frustrating to watch Republicans cave time and again. In a rare exception, to Newt's credit he stood up to the media in the debates which probably explains some of his recent rise in popularity. The rest of the Party should take note.

The Rules Committee would not even give a specific verifiable rule that the meeting violated. Kudos to Sen. Lee for pressing for an answer to this outright mockery of the democratic process.

Sorry for the sloppy post.

Totally agree with you. Our backs are to the wall. It may sound trite but failure is not an option. This election is for all the marbles.

Sorry for the sloppy post.

I don't know what that apology is for. I didn't see any sloppiness. As for the rest of your comment; I understood what the RC did and agree with you about Sen. Lee.

I’ve got a lot of respect for my fellow FReepers so having the wrong date is embarrassing.

“Kudos to Sen. Lee for pressing for an answer to this outright mockery of the democratic process.”

Almost exactly two years ago Dems in the House locked out Republicans from a committee hearing room, literally by changing the locks on the door. Yet another mockery of democratic processes brought to you by vicious and hypocritcal partisan Democrats who, not long afterwards, piously called for ‘civility’.

I appreciate your integrity. Stuff happens to us all though. I didn’t even see the date discrepancy. :-)
