Posted on 11/28/2011 11:15:55 PM PST by Windflier
I don't get it. Why do so many wackos and outright lunatics support Ron Paul? Just what is it about him that attracts such crazies?
Exhibit A. The following exchange occurred on Facebook tonight:
Louis Farrakhan endorses Ron Paul
Ozzie: Its funny because it says endorses Ron Paul. But yet what he does is praise Ron Paul's will and determination to fight the illegal Federal Reserve. If you dont agree with that, then your a hopeless case.
Ronnie: You don't get it, Ozzie. No Republican politician who wants to stay in good standing with the conservative community wants Farrakhan saying nice things about him. Farrakhan is evil incarnate to the right.
Ozzie: And why is he evil? Because he speaks out also? Tells the truth about alot of subjects most wont even approach?
Ozzie: Why is the truth so hard to grasp for so called "Conservatives"?
Ozzie: If your a true conservative there is only one person to support.. Ron Paul the only true conservative to run for president. Most claim they are conservative, but just watching Fox News does not make you right, in fact it will make you look ignorant
Ronnie: Farrakhan is an abject racist, and a moronic conspiracy loon. You want to hitch your wagon to his, you go right ahead.
Amy: Farrakhan is a racist son of a bitch who hates Jews. Why is it that so many Anti-Semitic f-ers are Paulbots?
Ronnie: Thanks, Amy. I forgot about his anti-Semitism.
Amy: And don't forget about the UFOs
Ronnie: That's the moronic conspiracy crap I was referring to. Farrakhan's a nut.
Ozzie: Same old statements same old false bs
Amy: It's not bs. Are you a Farrahkanbot, too?
Ozzie: Paulbots hate jews and are anti-semitic. Couldnt be farther from the truth
Ronnie: Don't you wish they were false. Unfortunately, Farrakhan is on record making hundreds, if not thousands of racist comments. Don't forget his little talk about the Mothership .. LOL
Ronnie: Ozzie, you sound like a lib. Are you a lib?
Ozzie: I support Paul not Farrakhan. But I have heard alot of truth out of Farrakhan including this vid.
Ozzie: Everyone is a liberal if they dont agree with you guys.
Ronnie: So, you ARE a liberal. Thanks.
Ozzie: Keep watching Fox News and believing that our goal as a country is to support and protect Israel. Nothing else matters in the entire world but Israel.
Amy: Ozzie, Hitler said lots of truths. He probably said "2+2=4" at one time. That doesn't make him any less a piece of sh**, like Farrakhan. And as Ronnie said, Farrakhan isn't shy about speaking his sh** to the media. I would guess there are thousands of racist remarks that can be cited by that piece of sh**.
Ozzie: Ron Paul is far from a liberal.
Amy: Ozzie, why do you hate Israel so much?
Amy: Ozzie, why do you hate Jews so much?
Ronnie: Ah.....so you're an anti-Semite to boot. Nice.
Ozzie: I never said I hate Israel or that I hate jews, but thats how your arguments go you put words in peoples mouths.
Ozzie: Maybe you should learn the true history of Israel.
Ronnie: Hey Ozzie. What sort of flag is that in your avatar? Looks like an alteration of Old Glory to me.
Amy: You said I watch Fox News. I don't, and I never have.
Ozzie: Or just sit back and watch your zionist controlled media in which you love.
Amy: Oh, the "true" history of Israel. Care to tell me about the "true" history of Israel?
Ozzie: Its a flag in which you will know nothing about because your a war mongerer.
Ronnie: Only libs rail like that against Fox News. Real conservatives don't think much of that news channel. In fact, most conservatives can't stand it. You're outing yourself, Ozzie.
Ozzie: Sorry Amy your far from savable. Your lost and educated like the mass sheeple.
Ronnie: Hey Amy......we got us a 'true believer' here.
Amy: "Zionist Controlled Media." I was right... you're a racist mf-er. Do you believe the Jews caused 9/11 too?
Amy: Oh Ozzie, I'm brighter than you will ever be.
Ozzie: Media isnt controlled by Zionists? Prove that one.
Ronnie: Tell me more about your flag, traitor.
Ozzie: name calling is so good.
Amy: Ok Ozzie.....Not one of the major television news operationsFox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, CBS News, or NBC Newsis currently headed by a Jewish executive.
Ronnie: Not name calling. I'm identifying and classifying you. Keep talking. I'm working on your dossier.
Ozzie: And that proves what Amy?
Ronnie: That you're a moron, Ozzie.
Amy: That the Jews don't control the media. Duh.
Ozzie: Do you think having unwavering support for Israel makes you American?
Ronnie: Don'tcha just love having these sorts of civil discussions with Paul supporters, Amy? They're always so......enlightening.
Ozzie: Because an executive isnt jewish means the media isnt controlled by zionists?
Ozzie: You guys are the morons
Amy: BTW a-hole, if you are a conservative, then you should encourage successful people to rise to the top. The Jews have been disproportionately successful for centuries. One of the reasons why is that Gentiles did not allow them to own land, so they had to be professionals.
Ronnie: Ozzie, you're what Lenin and Stalin called a "useful idiot". I'll bet you voted for Obama and attended at least one Occupy protest. You're a brainwashed lib, and it shows.
Amy: So racists, like you and Hitler, call them lazy, but they were only lazy because they could not own land and become farmers. They had to work in the cities. And because of strong family values, they did well in school, and succeeded. Without going to wikipedia, Jews were about 1% of the population in Germany, yet received 35% of the Nobel prizes awarded to Germans prior to Hitler. Why do you hate Jews for being successful?
Ozzie: Ronnie your not even close which just proves how clueless you idiots are. Go to the voting booth next year and act like yo have a choice. Act like your free.
Ronnie: You voted for Obama, didn't you Ozzie. Admit it.
Amy: Jews have been -----ed for thousands of years. They finally have their own homeland. It's a ----ing desert that they turned into a mecca. If the Palestinian leader sh** weren't a bunch of insane radical muzzies, there would be peace in the Middle East. But they leaders suck. Arafat was the biggest peace of sh** ever. He stole from his people.
Ozzie: I would never vote for a Democrat. Never have, I have just awoke to the truths in this world and I am not living in the la la land you still seem to occupy.
Amy: I think I recall that the Muzzies attacked Israel on the very first day of their assistance... RIGHT????
Amy: Come on Ozzie... tell me the "truth" about Israel. I'm waiting....
Ronnie: I pity you Ozzie. You only think you're free. You're a liberal sheeple, whose head has been stuffed with all kinds of lies about your country. You've drunk the Kool-Aid, and think you've got the answers, when all you've got is some first class indoctrination.
Ozzie: I must have touched a soft spot with you and the jews Amy. Its always so easy to see, anyone who doesnt support Ron Paul and considers themself conservative always reverts to Israel and jews.
Ronnie: Oh really? Who threw out the "Zionist" card?
Ronnie: I don't believe a word you say, Ozzie. You're a liberal, pretending to be 'something' else. What that is, I don't really know. Sorta typical of you Paul supporters.
Amy: No, dumb----, you said Farrakhan was ok.... REMEMBER????
Ozzie: Its just plain easy to see.. The media is controlled and its so simple to see
Amy: I have lots of Paulbot friends. And it's not Ron Paul that I hate... it's you racist f-ers.
And so it went, for perhaps another thirty posts or so.
Crossover Dems who hate Obama.
He is a nut, they are nuts. My Dad always said nuts like being in the same bowl at the dinner table. I used to think he was strange but I am beginning to think he was correct.
Birds of a feather.
I am not a Ron Paul fan, per se, in part because I believe Israel deserves favorist treatment, but the answer to your question is simple.
Ron Paul is “crazy” and supported by “crazies” because WE as a nation have in fact become “crazy.” We are SO FAR from the Founders’ guiding principles that almost any path - even if it is a path which should return us to those principles - seems to lead to darkness.
Most of them are young, earnest and in search of simple solutions to complex problems. RP’s brand of libertarian freedom appeals to the sex/drugs/rock-roll crowd (not that there is anything wrong with that). I wish Gary Johnson (the sane RP) would be getting some air time, but it looks like the enemy-media is going to cram either Newt or Mitt down our throats. Relax and enjoy it.
They must recognize a kindred spirit in Ron.
It is the legalization of Drugs, they are stoners and also do not want to ever be drafted, They are anti war.
They support him because he’s weak on foreign policy and would be a pushover for the enemies of Israel and for that matter, for the enemies of America. He means well and is obviously committed to smaller government and less intrusion into privacy, which are good things. But if he has the likes of Farrakhan behind him, that’s mainly because he would offer the least protection to Israel, of all major presidential candidates (perhaps even including Obama, or maybe it’s a tie).
If Ron Paul would have a “lightbulb moment” about his international and security policies, he might turn out to be the best hope for American recovery. But there’s no point in saving the nation’s economy if you then allow her enemies to pick off other free countries one by one, that just postpones for perhaps one generation the day when America will have to stand alone against a much more hostile world than we see today. Is that one generation of prosperity worth the risk? And beside that, America has a moral obligation to Israel that Ron Paul and friends reject. I would put it this way — America bases its security and integrity on God’s providence. God is the God of Israel. It’s a covenant, comes with the territory. Ron Paul says he is a born-again Christian, but this weak spot in his armour is more typical of atheists and liberals.
Perhaps some are, but I think a lot of his supporters are just mentally unbalanced anarchists. They're misfits who don't fit in any other camp.
Who else but a nut would support Paul?
Well, ya see, it’s really kinda simple. Lunatics like to support other lunatics, but in today’s political environment it’s a bit hard to decide who the real lunatic is.
However, since most people agree that Ron Paul is a lunatic, and say so, all the other lunatics figure he’s got to be the guy to support.
Glad to help. I accept pay-pal, or you can pay in Fed-credits or Gold Pressed Latinum. No checks.
Your dad was a smart fella.
If you call abiding by the Constitution and everything It stands for “crazy”, then you can call me crazy too. I don’t agree with his stance on Israel, but everything else he’s been saying is no different than what most Conservatives believe and that’s basically smaller, less intrusive government, less taxes, a strong and secure border, a government that abides by the Constitution rather than ignores it. He’s a man who is pro-life, pro-God, pro-Second Amendment. He’s more in line with the TEA Party than those who call themselves Republicans. What you will find with Ron Paul is that he’s consitent. I find it interesting that somehow all these Conservative ideas are now considered “crazy”.
Just one word: Marijuana
We're not all crazy. In fact, I'd say that sane folks are still in the majority in America.
But I get your point. Seems there's a lost segment of the population that gloms onto Ron Paul because they see a kindred spirit in him.
Some of those “lunatics” also used to support Free Republic. The hostility toward this man who, more than any other member of Congress, has tried to adhere to the Constitution, has driven most of them away.
Don't forget the certifiably insane, and wacked out conspiracy theorists. Ron's their guy.
the flaw in the ronPaulista organization is that it is a personality cult. When 2016 comes around, who will the support? ronPaul will be older and dead or something.
Thankfully, it is unsustainable.
They like being terminally unique. They would feel very uncomfortable at a GOP victory party when they looked around the room and saw a bunch of people that were not true believers. It is easier to keep your movement pure if you always lose.
Well said, Peter. A lot of well-informed thoughts in that post.
However, since most people agree that Ron Paul is a lunatic, and say so, all the other lunatics figure hes got to be the guy to support.
Thanks, Ronin. The check's in the mail ;-)
I think of Ron Paul as that crazy old uncle that comes to family reunions and once in about every 5 years says something that makes sense...its usually just by accident. The rest of the time he lives in someone’s attic....LOL
It’s not Ron Paul’s stance on the Constitution, taxes, and down-sizing big government that scares conservatives away from Ron Paul. Most of us truly appreciate his positions in those areas.
It’s his 19th century ideas about foreign policy, and his total lack of support for our ally, Israel, that we find so disturbing.
Frankly, I don’t mind the man being a House rep at all - but President? No. Not only does he have a few deal-breakers in his portfolio, but he doesn’t have any of the sort of attributes I look for in a leader.
Saying so does not make it so.
So, what are we down to, out of the original 20 or so? Three or four?
Gary Johnson is as much of a Libertarian as Ron Paul.
If they would run as what they are (Paul did once) at least I might have some respect for them.
It is pretty easy to dupe the young into supporting Utopia.
I thank God for Ron Paul. I do not know whether he would be a good President. Man, he is terribly bright. And he really, really cares about individual liberty. Did I mention, he is about fifty times smarter and more constitutionally aware than well, you know...
As a physician, Paul routinely lowered fees or worked for free and refused to accept Medicaid or Medicare payments. As a member of Congress, he continues to refuse to sign up for the government pension that he would be entitled to in order to avoid receiving government money, saying it would be “hypocritical and immoral.”
His district lies between Houston and Rockport Texas right on the Gulf of Mexico. About 22 counties.
Most doctors are busybodies, know it alls. This one Ron Paul wants to protect YOUR freedoms.
There’s another thing I like. In the days of fighting sail, a Letter of Marque and Reprisal was a government license authorizing a person (known as a privateer) to attack and capture enemy vessels, and bring them before admiralty courts for condemnation and sale. Calling the September 11, 2001, attacks an act of “air piracy”, Paul introduced the Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001.
Letters of marque and reprisal would have targeted specific terrorist suspects instead of invoking war against a foreign state. Paul reintroduced this legislation as the Marque and Reprisal Act of 2007. He voted with the majority for the original Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists in Afghanistan. In April 2009, following the Maersk Alabama hijacking, he proposed issuing letters of marque to combat the problem of piracy in Somalia.
So he’s a privateer.
I said NO CHECKS dagnabbit!!!
You can pretty well chalk up the fact that this country has lost the War On Drugs. I think the government really doesn’t care one whit about the outcome of the WOD, just as long as people are doing drugs which gives them justification for throwing them in prison. The government should be fearing the people, yet it’s not.
I don't know, but the boiling center mass of Paul supporters will find some other anarchistic figure to follow.
That aside, I actually feel sorry for those conservatives who've honestly looked the man over and have decided that he's worthy of their support. They've got some strange bedfellows.
Speaking for myself, I support most of his ideas, I just don’t think he’s got enough of a base of support to get nominated or elected. I refuse to live in this fantasy world that most Paul-bots live in. Reality states he has a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning.
Sec of Def: “Sir, we're being attacked.”
Ron Paul: “ No, I don't want a Big Mac”.
Just like Gramps.
The pot smokers are pretty much getting slaps on the wrist. As for the rest, I just as soon see people peddling Meth and other hard street drugs behind bars and not in my neighborhood.
Dr. Paul may or or not be smart.
#1. He has brought a lot of “pork” to his district.
#2. He is a Libertarian running on on the Republican ticket.
#3. If he refused Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements...he hurt lots of people. I can’t believe that he discounted or freebied many patients. I’ll have to look, but how long has it been since he was a doctor...and not a politician?
I would like a source that says he has refused a government pension.
Funny, but also a pretty good description of the guy.
It's gotta be pretty hard on his son, Rand. He seems to have his head on straight, and appears to headed for great things in the future.
You're right. Reality does.
And with that noxious generality, you threw away your credibility.
But, it's certified....ain't that ok?
Most doctors I know, don't fit this mold. Most doctors I've been to want to protect my freedoms while while swearing the Hippocratic Oath to protect and save my life and the lives of all their patients. In the age of frivolous lawsuits, the last thing they want to be is "busybody know-it-alls".
[ Just what is it about Ron Paul that attracts these nuts? ]
Ron Paul wants the federal government to stop doing most of what they do..
Anybody with sense wants some of that to happen as well.. just not all of it..
Of course, there are many conservatives that are not really conservatives..
some libertarians are also not anarchists.. most of them..
I've got a few dear old friends that are Paul supporters. They sometimes write me the most heartfelt emails, encouraging me to get behind Ron Paul.
Some of them are guys I've respected for decades, and it just kills me having to burst their bubble with those facts. I try to get them to confront the fact that Ron Paul has run for president before, and that he never got more than a few percentage points of the vote.
I ask them to explain to me why they think he's got any better chance of winning this time. They usually point to straw polls and internet polls for proof, and then I show them the results of the national polls. At that point, they usually revert to conspiracy theories to explain why he's stuck at 7%.
I usually let it go at that, and allow them have their fantasy.
Depends on the bank. I don’t do business with Darhel, Klingons, Democrats or other such riff-raff...
I think it’s a template. I get locked in a debate with my brother who just sort of laughs when I throw him facts and snap him in to reality. Meanwhile, he counters with conspiracy theories involving the Jews (both here and abroad) and the state of Israel.
His views on FP and “the war on drugs” are understandably controversial. That aside, his remaining domestic positions are often spot on.
I haven't watched any of the debates on television, but I have listened to them on radio. I kind of prefer doing it that way, so that I'm not distracted by camera work, lighting, strange looks, split screens, etc.
I feel like straight audio is more honest, and that it's harder to fool the ear.
Anyway, the way Ron Paul sounded in the last debate was positively geriatric. He also sounded high strung and emotionally tweaked. Compared to the other candidates, he came off sounding like an old kook off the street, and that's not any sort of prejudice on my part talking. He really didn't sound like a presidential candidate.
“Just what is it about Ron Paul that attracts these nuts?”
Paul has two support bases, both very small:
The mainly younger group likes his combination of pacifist foreign policy and willingness to legalize drugs. They ignore his fiscal policies, assuming they’ll worry about those later.
The other group tends to be older and garden-variety libertarian. They like the fiscal policies and the posturing.
Together they don’t make up enough of the electorate to matter. But somebody had to take over for Harold Stassen.
I'm sure you've heard Freepers give Ron Paul his due, over and over again. Few of us deny that he's got the right ideas about a lot of things, but his supporters just won't accept that he's broken the deal with us in other areas.
Some deal breakers are minor, some are modest, and some are major. Ron Paul's got some major deal breakers with most conservatives. Add to that, the fact that he doesn't have the leadership credentials to be a president, and the fact that he's a House member (which puts him at very long odds of being elected), and his advanced age, and it's pretty self explanatory.
He's a No Sale for most thinking conservatives.
Well, it’s drawn on the 1st Bank of Free Republic. Hope they’ll do ;-)
I’ve got a brother like that, but he’s even worse. He’s a progressive Dem. You oughta hear the ridiculous conspiracy theories that come out of his mouth.
I point out all the things the Obama mal-administration is doing, and the lightbulb never goes on. I’ve given up on trying to close the circuit.
Embracing the Alex Jones/paranoid nutcase market sure doesn't keep the crazies away.
