On CNN’s State of the Union today, Candy Crowley asked Senator John McCain if the Republican party should be worried about courting Hispanic voters in places like his home state of Arizona heading into next year’s presidential election, particularly given the anti-immigration sentiments of many of the candidates. McCain explained the policy of the United States should be “humane” when it comes to dealing with such matters, a word that got Newt Gingrich in hot water with conservatives when he used it about immigration several weeks ago.
McCain suggested that the Latino vote might not necessarily go for Obama because of voter frustration and a whole list of other factors, but did acknowledge it has the potential to go the other way. However, the former presidential candidate was quick to suggest that many American Hispanics do support closing and securing the U.S.-Mexico border, citing drug trafficking as one of the biggest problems in the region.
Crowley pressed McCain on whether Obama could win Arizona, and McCain conceded his former rival has a shot in not just his state, but in other states along the Southern border.
“I think it can be up for grabs. I think that’s true of New Mexico, Colorado, Texas even, although maybe not this time, but the demographics are clear… the Hispanic vote will play a major part in national elections.”

It is true and we (non democrats) are so stupid that while they illegally change our demographics in order to control the country, we are afraid to object because then we are “racists”.
One of several reasons people believe America is finished.
Unfortunately, McCain is quite right. If we continue losing the Hispanic vote by the margins we have recently, in a generation or so we might not even be able to win Texas.
We saw this play out in Nevada and Colorado in 2010. The rapidly growing Hispanic demographic turned out heavily for Reid and Bennet and cost us 2 seats. Granted Angle was a poor candidate anyway, but Reid was virtually the most unpopular senator in the United States and still managed to win. Buck was actually a fairly solid Tea Party candidate, but the Hispanic vote was enough to make the difference and defeat him.
Somehow we have to win a bigger percentage of the Hispanic vote. They are voters we can get, we just have to do a better job of it. We've got to find a way to address immigration enforcement without allowing the Democrats and the media to paint us as anti-Hispanic.
Sadly he’s not nuts, this is the future reality for those states. Heck, NJ and Pennsylvania have whole communities built on illegal immigrants, they make announcements in Spanish here in all the stores.
That kind of thinking have led to the policies which now have those states in play and others out of reach.

You’re right. It seems Republican candidates keep ignoring this voting block and/or ostricizing them. The candidates need to come up with a Clear, Consistent, Compelling and Fair message about immigration (and other issues), and then flood the radios and TV ads in Hispanic districts.

We don't really care what's good for those folks ~ there are millions of others standing patiently in line for a chance to come to America legally so if they get PO'd it really doesn't matter.
At the same time NONE of these guys ever explain why all these millions of illegals are GOOD FOR US and that is most likely because they aren't.
At some point here McCain will figure out he's not back in the Nam ~ we hope. Gingrich began instantly backpeddling on his idea the second he heard someone say it'd been described as Anti-American. Senor Perri Caliente dallied two weeks too long after he told us we were HEARTLESS ~ and came around with a rather weak apology.
One more time, don't tell us why it's good for the illegals. Tell us what will be good for us. We have 20 million of our fellow citizens UNEMPLOYED in the prime of their lives and even some Republican politicians think it's OK to just screw them and bring in more illegals.
That does not compute.

I wish our candidates simply said "I will enforce the existing immigration laws". We have the laws in place to deal with illegal immigration, we just don't enforce them. Why allow the Democrats and media to distort our views this issue at all? We are for enforcing the law. Period. Leave it at that.

The Republicans put up illegal alien lover McCain in 2008 after he put forth the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill and he got 3 million votes FEWER than Bush and dropped in hispanic vote percentage from 36 for Bush to 29 for McCain.
For every hispanic vote McCain pandered to get, he lost two non-hispanic voters who were sick of illegal immigration and McCain’s defense of it. McCain lost about 900000 votes compared to Bush in spite of his pandering.
Hispanics have put themselves on the democrat plantation, just like blacks. Have them ask the blacks how that’s worked out for them.

I don’t agree that Hispanics have put themselves on the plantation, so to speak. Marco Rubio of FL, Susana Martinez of NM and Brian Sandoval of NV have proven we can get this vote. It will definitely take funding and especially targeted and eloquent campaigning, but it can be done.

But after the news conference, some political observers in her own party weren’t so sure.
Bachmann, speaking at press conference at the Westin Fort Lauderdale hotel Thursday evening before a private Boca Raton fundraiser, called for massive deportation of illegal immigrants, for English to be designated the official language of the federal government, and for an end to automatic citizenship for babies born on American soil.
“When people are intercepted here illegally, they need to come within the confines of the law,” Bachmann said. “If that means deportation, we need to have deportation.”
Illegal immigration costs the United States $113 billion a year, which “works out to about $1,000 per household in South Florida,” she said.
Sid Dinerstein, chairman of Palm Beach County’s Republican Party, said even conservative Hispanics and many other GOP members aren’t in favor of massive deportation. “Nobody wants people rounded up,” Dinerstein said.
Ana Navarro, a South Florida GOP consultant and fundraiser, said Bachmann is trying to make a last-ditch play to the far right of the Republican Party, not targeting Florida Hispanic voters.
“I think she’s trying to become a blip on the radar again, and she’s saying things in hope that it gets her some attention,” Navarro said.
Bachmann, who several months ago was a rising star in the party, is polling at 1 percent in Florida, in the latest American Research Group poll. While Navarro said she hasn’t seen any polling that separates out Hispanic voters, she believes the Hispanic community is in line with the rest of the Republican voters in the state, who lately are leaning heavily toward Newt Gingrich.
Recent polls had Gingrich as a runaway frontrunner in Florida, up more than 20 points on Mitt Romney.
Bachmann bashed Gingrich several times on Thursday. She called him soft on immigration, saying he promotes amnesty for illegal immigrants. This came a day after Gingrich called Bachmann “factually challenged,” after she pointed to an eight-year-old editorial in the Wall Street Journal in which Gingrich supported a path to permanent residency for illegal workers.
Gingrich responded that he wasn’t supporting blanket amnesty, but on Thursday Bachmann said Gingrich has a “memory challenge.”->>LOL-<<<
Bachmann predicted that the Iowa caucus, just a month away, will be the “cannon shot that changes the world,” as she is propelled back into the race.

Illegals have been having children here for decades, millions of them and they are voting citizens now. Of course they support the party that protects mommy, daddy, etc., and which will allow them to bring over auntie, cousins, etc.
It’s true some established hispanic citizens are now unwelcoming to illegals. In any event, our voting demographics have been changed and are going to reach the tipping point soon, precisely due to illegal immigration.

So what else is new? The best course to winning is enforcing our immigration laws and appealing to Hispanic families who want to raise their children and grandchildren in a prosperous, decent America. Obama isn’t the answer, and amnesty isn’t the answer. Besides, given McCain’s example of how to run a presidential campaign, it makes sense to ignore his advice.
Not completely true. Jeb Bush, GW, Christie, and others have done very well with them. It is all in the right message and tone of the candidate. And polling shows it is not always about giving the store away to get the vote.
Remember, a large segment of that voting block wants to be just considered American. They are really no different than the large numbers who moved here from Cuba. They too want to just be considered American and the Cubans show that a large number of those have gone Republican.
So it is doable.
John McCain is right.
Thanks to the GOP, sooner or later the Democrats will have enough Mexican voters in Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas to put those states permanently out of reach like California.
The Democrats make explicit appeals to Hispanic racial consciousness. They are explicitly trying to overwhelm the native population through immigration to win elections. They explicitly engage in race based “community outreach.”
What about the Republicans? The Republicans are obsessed with proving to the Democrats (who are arguing in bad faith) that they are not “racists.” They ramble on about how “colorblind” they are.
I’m not voting for Newt Gingrich period.

The MSM is pushing hard for Mitt Romney...ask yourself why. Newt Gingrich is an admitted Moderate Conservative...he understands how Washington works, he understands the illegal immigration problem, he understands the spending problem, he knows and has learned from history, this isn't his first dance so to speak....Gingrich loves this country. Mitt Romney is a Moderate Conservative who will not do much to change the 'status quo', Bachmann and Santorum are most likely the most Conservative....Santorum did extremely well on the Huckabee debate last night....he was finally given equal time to reply to the questions....Romney has been given the most time and still comes across as Central Casting. Don't let the media tell you who to vote for!
