Gee willikers, former GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney denounced his latest rival, disgraced former House speaker Newt Gingrich, in his harshest language yet, calling him zany in an interview with the New York Times. Beltway folks think that shows Mitts fear and ferocity, I think it shows him, again, as an animatron politician devoid of passion whos stuck in the 1950s. Zany? Gidget was zany. Gingrich is a dangerous huckster, who will apparently say anything to get elected.
Romney does seem desperate, whether his goofy language captures it or not. He rolled out an endorsement from the truly zany I am not a witch Christine ODonnell, a woman whose moment passed sometime before she cost the GOP the Delaware Senate seat in 2010. Was she supposed to be a stand-in for Sarah Palin? Give Palin some credit; she has some loyal followers. ODonnell is no Palin, shes a punchline. And yesterdays punchline to boot.
Romney is also hitting Gingrich with the label of unreliable, pointing to the many positions on which hes changed his mind. Again, as when the former Massachusetts governor attacked Gingrich for converting to Catholicism, noting that hed practiced the same religion his whole life, its a stupid line of attack, since religion isnt a big positive for the Mormon Romney. Neither is ideological constancy. As Ive said, he and Gingrich are Flip and Flop. If it ever comes down to a two man race, they can stage a debate in which they whack one another with policy papers on which theyve changed their position, and we can see who turns out to be the last man standing.
I had the dubious pleasure of discussing Romneys panic attack with former RNC chair Michael Steele on Hardball today. Steele disapproved of Romneys attacks, in particular an ad that used Gingrichs famous sofa summit with Nancy Pelosi calling for action on climate change, as smearing Gingrich for a type of brave leadership that ought to be praised. Id agree with that except Gingrich already said his Pelosi/climate change appearance was one of the dumbest things Ive done in years. Newt doesnt want credit for that one, Michael.
Heres our Hardball segment. Below is my Tuesday night talk with Ed Schultz and Ezra Klein about Rudy Giulianis preposterous claim that Gingrich cant be tagged as a elitist. Schultz does a great job debunking the myth of the Reagan Democrat. Watch.
I will stay tuned as Romney’s slapstick hijinx ensue.
“Romney is also hitting Gingrich with the label of unreliable, pointing to the many positions on which hes changed his mind.”
Pot meet kettle.
“The “myth” of the Reagan Democrat? What narcotics are they ingesting?”
Both of my parents were Reagan Democrats. Blue collar, hard working union members that voted for Reagan twice. He is the only Republican that either of them ever voted for.
Joan Walsh, lol.. I haven’t seen that pig’s name in awhile.
Salon. A Leftist organ. Jake Tapper used to write for Salon.
Ever wonder why Mitt dropped out so easily in the last election? I figured he should have at least went a little later but, the deal was made. The establishment went to Mitt and told him that he was not the man, McCain was. And if he dropped out, he would be the anointed one in the next round if McCain lost.
Wonder why all establishment pundits are trashing Gingrich? Because he isnt the “one” who is supposed to win it.
And they call Gingrich the establishment insider candidate?
Maybe she got released from the sanitorium for the holidays?
Please don't insult pigs.
Perhaps he had a flashback to the “Zany Grey Theater”
Scribbling in Salon, partisan media shill Joan Walsh bashes “former GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney” in the same sentence referring to “disgraced former House speaker Newt Gingrich”, then later on bashes Christine OâDonnell, Sarah Palin, and even Michael Steele. She finishes by claiming that the Reagan Democrats never existed. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
“Disgraced,” Joan Walsh? Have you ever called Bill Clinton that?
Chrisine, you fooled me! I really don’t believe there is one person on this planet who will run for congress and not try to cash in.
Have never heard the word “zany” until or since “The Animaniacs” theme some. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA0TS9l_nJE&feature=fvst
