Personally I think Ron Paul is just a stalking horse for the GOP. They feign shock and outrage but do all they can to keep people concentrating on him for now. They know full well that he’ll get eaten alive in a head to head fight with virtually any other candidate.
This is why the winner of Iowa doesn't generally go on to be the nominee. Iowa's only right about 20 or 30% of the time.
