Bachmann proclaims herself ‘America’s Margaret Thatcher’ in White House campaign
Truth Dive ^ | December 31, 2011

The 2012 White House contender Michele Bachmann is projecting herself as “America’s Margaret Thatcher” ahead of the January 3aucuses.

“What we needed [in 1980] was the most articulate conservative we had to hold Jimmy Carter responsible and we got Ronald Reagan. And at the same time across the ocean there was another country, an ally of ours called Britain. Britain was also suffering under socialist policies. They needed a strong conservative too and up rose a woman and her name was Margaret Thatcher,” The Telegraph quoted Bachmann, as saying.

“She was the Iron Lady and she led Britain back to prosperity too. Right now in the United States, we need another strong conservative who can stand up. We need another Margaret Thatcher, another Iron Lady. That’s what I want to do. I want to be America’s Iron Lady, America’s Margaret Thatcher,” she added.

Bachmann faces a tough battle to be re-elected to Congress in her home state of Minnesota after she came under fire for highlighting that she was born in Iowa but adopted the former as her home state.

She also suffered a setback due to the defection of her campaign manager and Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson, to Ron Paul.

A Political Action Committee also switched from backing Bachmann to Romney for the poll, which further exacerbated her woes.

Leading Christians have predicted that the social conservative vote would be split between Bachmann, Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum,

But Bachmann is continuing to campaign with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm.

Some of her supporters, however, were doubtful that Bachmann would be the front-runner.

“I think she’s Sarah Palin with even more brains and even more charm. But she’s so far behind in the polls that I don’t think she can do it. I’m looking for somebody who’s almost guaranteed electable against Obama and my fear is that Michele might struggle against him,” a US citizen, Caroline Richer said.

Being the first woman EVER elected to congress as a Republican from Minnesota and then re-elected again and again, qualifies her to play with the big boys like Obama and Reid any day of the week.

And she never quit on her constituents EVER!

She should aspire to get some accomplishments under her belt and stop telling us her daydreams.

Define "accomplishments" as they relate to someone who has been in the minority Party. Should she have grabbed more earmarks? How about championing another of those wonderful laws the Congress is always subjugating us with? In my mind, the less they "do" the better for us. It's all the "accomplishments" that are destroying us. We need someone who will set out to undo the "accomplishments" of the recent (and not so recent) past.

***Not everyone has what it takes to be president.***

Unfortunately, some shouldn’t even BE ELECTED!

Qualities that they ought to have:
Humor, humility, knowledge, leadership experience and familiarity with the concept of a Constitutional Republic.

Really different wavelength - by your comment, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are far more qualified than Bachmann (who isn't my first choice).

Perhaps your wavelength is being filtered to not understand the gist of my post - doing a bunch of stuff doesn't qualify you for anything, especially the way most congresscritters do stuff - almost all their laws/acts/self-idolizing activities are done at the expense of the Nation and the People.

And....don't call me toodles...

Retread of what?

When someone who just signed up last month starts flooding this forum with hundreds of posts every day, arrogantly prancing around like they own Free Republic, some just might take notice.

Bravo! Bachmann is the real *man* in this election. She is definately a leader and not a follower. Even Santorum, though he is good on social issues was too inclined to follow the leaders of the Republican party. Michele voted against the increase of the debt ceiling which showed that she had the courage of her convictions.

Michele comes from a liberal state so it is much more difficult for her to stand up for her conservative principles. Perry gets a lot of praise for having a job making state, but Texas is a state that has a conservative population so he is really standing on the shoulders of the conservative Texas electorate who have enough sense not to kill the goose that lays the golden egg which is business. It is one thing to be a conservative governor of a conservative state it is quite another to represent a state that has had a long history of liberalism. I hope she makes it into the White House, though it certainly looks like a long shot. If she drops out of the race, I hope that she maintains her seat in the House, we need every person like her in Wasington. I have noticed that there are only a few fighters in the House and Senate. The go-along guys seem to control the whole show.

Maybe she fights hard because she is a woman and has to prove that she can do the job. She can also see that there is so much inertia in congress so she applies all of the energy that she has to move that big boulder of resistance to reform that dominates the culture of Washington.

Rush Limbaugh said on the Van Sustren program that the Republican party has no ideology. He said that it took him a long time to realize this. This is what we are up against, a party that plays up to conservatives to get their votes but does not want conservatives to be making the decisions. This is why we need lots of people like Michele Bachmann who aren’t afraid to take on the establishment.

I don't claim to be clairvoyant, but the fact of the matter is I made at least one comparison of Bachmann to Margaret Thatcher here on FR a couple of months ago. Glad to see her campaign is taking up that theme.

I would suggest reading "Core of Conviction," Bachmann's autobiography, to get an idea of what she is made of.

Wow that’s a pretty heady statement to make... I don’t think that will play as well as she thinks it will.

It’s pretty silly for any candidate to set themselves up for possible comparisons especially with someone the likes of Baroness Thatcher - seems like a pretty rookie mistake for a campaign/candidate to make.

Understood regarding the article headline, however, I don’t think it was a good idea on her part to open up an avenue for people to COMPARE her to Thatcher.

Michele comes from a liberal state so it is much more difficult for her to stand up for her conservative principles.

I think you are off base here. She is a House member representing her district. And her district, though located in Minnesota, is fairly conservative and generally goes Republican.

If there was any problem with Bachmann standing up for conservative principles in her Minnesota district, she has certainly overcome it. She has won the district three times, despite being heavily "targeted" by the left.

If she drops out of her presidential race, she hopefully will seek and win a fourth term in the House, then perhaps seek the Al Franken Senate seat in 2014.

The first time I saw Bachmann in a debate I was impressed with her perfect speaking ability and her looks. But as she began to continuously attack other candidates and refuse to even look at them when they responded, it turned me off on her.

It's not wrong for her to ‘aspire’ to be like Thatcher. I wish her well but she won't be the President.

Happy New Year Justice!
