Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint Disagree on Tone of GOP Primary
Conservative HQ ^ | January 12, 2012 | Richard A. Viguerie

Posted on 01/12/2012 9:55:59 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint are two powerful conservative voices in Republican politics, but they seem to be coming at the race for the Republican presidential nomination from totally different angles.

Jim DeMint took to the airwaves on The Laura Ingraham Show to warn former House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- and all of the other presidential candidates -- to tone down their campaign rhetoric in the Palmetto State.

“I would encourage all of the candidates, ‘let’s just be as positive as we can.’ I know they’re frustrated if people run negative ads,” DeMint said. One of the Tea Party’s favorite Senators, DeMint has not endorsed a candidate for President.

In contrast, Governor Palin vigorously cast aside the notion that infighting is harmful to the overriding objective of defeating Barack Obama. Palin, speaking on Fox News’ Sean Hannity Show, said the Republican presidential candidates “need to vet one another.” The former Alaska governor also seemed to take aim at fellow former governor Mitt Romney by saying the candidates should be held accountable for their records and then zeroing in on Romney’s claims to have created 100,000 jobs.

“You hear backup and facts, and information supporting the claims, say, for job creation, that’s been the talk the last couple of days — claims made in these campaigns — and sometimes it gets rough and tumble as you try to hold these candidates accountable for what they’re claiming,” Palin said. Although Sarah Palin’s popular husband Todd has endorsed former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, the former Alaska Governor has yet to make an endorsement.

This is one of the few areas we might be inclined to disagree with Jim DeMint and to agree with Mitt Romney. As Romney said when Newt Gingrich complained about the negative ads run against him in Iowa, "If you can't handle the heat in this little kitchen, the heat that's going to come from Obama's hell's kitchen is going to be a heck of a lot hotter. We have to show that we as a Republican Party and as a candidate, that we can stand up to the barrage that's going to come from the Obama world.” With Gingrich starting to rebound in the polls (now that he has begun to attack Romney), we will soon see if Romney can handle the heat.

I agree with Sarah Palin. The charges that Newt is making with his criticism of Romney’s association with Bain Capitol are a gift horse for him. It is a warning to the Romney team of what is coming. Romney will be hit with Axelrod’s attacks taken from the same area of discussion. Romney had better have his counter message ready when the attacks come.

The OWS have tried to set the stage for the kind of attack the DemonRATs have been building since the housing collapse. I don’t think the OWS effort has been successful. However it has planted a seed in the electorate’s mind. It has set the stage for the classic battle between Keynesian economics vs Hayekian economics. It is going to be class warfare and the rich and the Republican Party will be the scapegoat for all that has gone wrong for the middle class. I am sure they will use something similar to Bain Capitol and use it like a powder keg to blow up Romney’s candidacy if he becomes the nominee. The Bain Capitol activities and Romney’s association with it will be the center of focus for corporate greed and the evil of Hayekian economics. It will be their October Surprise. The DemonRATs are set to hang everything Bain Capitol represents around the Republican neck and it will sink everything we have worked for since Zer0 took office. We will be like the little woman who said, “We had to load up the U-Haul because we done lost our home.”

Rick Tyler, a former long-time aide to Mr. Gingrich who helped set up the super PAC Winning Our Future, comments about the criticism that Newt is anti-capitalist in his attacks against Romney:

“I’m a capitalist, I’m a conservative,” he said. “I’ve spent a lot of time defending free enterprise from a biblical perspective.”

“But Bain Capital,” he said, “did not fit the model of responsible corporate citizenship.” “If this is free enterprise, then conservatives should have nothing to do with it,” he said. “It is predatory paper-shuffling. Mitt Romney was engaged in the engineered destruction of free enterprise.”

Noticed once again Sara Palin on Fox News speaking unscripted. I never see “Ken Doll” on there from anywhere talking to anyone on Fox. Interesting that Clintons, Gore, Kerry and Zippy couldn’t do that before either. I guess scripted Smurfball questions would be too obvious.

Somehow I don’t see in the future ANY republican saying “I simply cannot support this candidate.” What we will hear is “This is the candidate we need to get obama out of the white house and put this country back on the right track”. And we will hear this from Palin, Bachman, all three Bushes, Perry, Newt, Santorum, Huntsman, Rush, Hannity, Christy, Laura, Greta, Ann Coulter, et al.

If one highly public person would say “I’ll vote for Romney the day someone holds my dead hand and pushed the button for me” he or she could jump in the race the day before the convention and win it all. But we won’t be seeing that. Even Joe the Plumber will be on board the GOP FAST TRAIN TO DEFEAT.

DeMint has not endorsed a candidate.

What DeMint should do is declare himself a candidate.

Funny how no one in the media has mentioned that Sarah Palin is not supporting Mitt Romney while her 2008 running mate jumped in immediately to give his endorsement. Sarah is definitely smarter than both McCain and DeMint.

‘Attacking romney IS attacking obama’

Exactly! We need to tell Gingrich to emphasize how Romney and Obama are alike, therefore challenging Romney is challenging obama - nothing wrong with that!
Use this theme -
‘We want our country to change direction. Romney will take us in the same direction as obama’

I agree with DeMint. The rats are sitting back while Gingrich destroys Romney. It’s really Gingrich they want to pit against obama. Once Gingrich is the nominee the rat super pacs will rip him apart before the first debate. I still think Perry has the record to beat obama.

I agree with you. Go after BHO’s record and stop giving sound bites to the Rats for their campaign ads.

I absolutely agree with Sarah. OWS was set up by the Dems to bring awareness to Wall St and greed, and I believe in anticipation of Obama running against Mitt. Bain will be portrayed by the Dems as greedy Wall St. and Mitt will not win the general election because of Bain. It doesn't matter how you define capitalism, it is a matter of how the Dems will define it.

The GOP was either too stupid and didn't vet Romney, or they are too stupid and don't want to face how Bain will be portrayed by Obama and his goons.

Sarah is correct in that this needs to be front and center, and Romney needs to provide answers. This is the only way we will know if Romney has a fighting chance in the general election.

Charles Kraut. also recently said something to the effect that Mitt better have a good response to Bain because Bain won't fly in the general election. One last thing, the GOP was stupid (duh) by trying to say Newt is attacking capitalism. Now what they have don't is to set up Obama to run against not only Mitt, but capitalism. Some of the stuff about Bain is not capitalism. Obama and socialism will beat Mitt and capitalism. We have got to let people know this isn't about Newt or Sarah attacking capitalism. This is about the GOP being too stupid to face they blew it. We can save our election by getting people to understand it isn't about capitalism, it is about the electability, or lack thereof, relative to Mitt. This is about an ad created in 1994 about Bain. It was never used against Mitt. Bain was gonna be Obama's trump card, and the GOP is trying to make Newt the fall guy for THEIR STUPIDITY. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdYx19temU8

I didn't see DeMint calling for Romney's campaign to stop the blitzkrieg against Newt in Iowa. I stand with Saint Sarah. DeMint has shown he's just another career politician.

Very true. Makes me wonder if the DeMint/Romney relationship is deeper than we want to acknowledge.

You know what? I don’t get it. LAST week, and for months before that, no one was happy because no Conservative candidates were laying a glove on romney. And now that someone HAS, so many of you are crying in your beer. Why is that?
romney is a shyster, a fraud, a liar, a hollow, hollow man. Newt Gingrich is saying the exact truth about romney. Why would you rather wait until he is nominated and then let the dems open his veins? Because they darn sure would.
Ain’t a damn thing they can tell anyone about Newt Gingrich. The man’s life is an open book. He has already been attacked repeatedly and dishonestly by both paul and romney. So why all these crocodile tears for a hollow man who claims virtue and righteousness when he has no virtues and there isn’t one righteous bone in his body?

Everything you said about Mitt is true. My personal opinion is that they would rather have Ginrich as the nominee. They will run ads against him portraying obama as the good guy family man with his wife and two kids while showing Gingrich as the evil republican who ditched his wife. Then they’ll trot out Bill Clinton to discredit things he did as speaker while in his administration. You don’t think they will go after Newt the way they personally went after Ryan when obama was running for the Senate? If it’s so easy for Newt to take down Romney, what do you think a billion dollars and free media support will do to Newt? Rick Perry is the stronger candidate. He has executive experience as a sitting three term governor in the gun-friendly, energy-friendly great state of Texas where a million jobs were created during a downturn. I think he is the one we should be embracing in SC. IMHO.
