Deep South abandons Dems
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | January 22, 2012 | Salena Zito

PROSPERITY, S.C. - Erik Grantham walked out of Stable Steak House on Main Street, through a door hand-painted in bright yellow with "Jesus is the reason."

"I have not been home in months," he said, leaning against his truck as if to emphasize his exhaustion. "I am a welder, but there is no work at home, so I travel, going from job to job across the state."

Dressed in stained overalls and sipping a Coke, he said he would not be home for Saturday's Republican primary. He hopes to be there for November's election, to make his voice heard.

"I guess you could call me a 'yellow-dog Democrat,' just always vote that way," he said, puffing a cigarette before flicking it artfully across the street.

Yet he will not vote for President Obama or any other Democrat again: "I voted for him the last time because that is my party. It is not anymore."

Grantham, 47, reflects the once-proud Southern white Democrats that the party began bleeding in 1948 during a convention battle between civil-righters and Dixiecrat states'-righters. The Republican Party really didn't capitalize on that until 1952, when Dwight Eisenhower won some Southern states.

Richard Nixon developed the strategy of competing in the Deep South -- then, typically barren land for Republicans. While his results were mixed, his brilliant move marked the start of the South turning on Democrats.

"As a new generation developed, the people who were conservative Democrats and Dixiecrats mostly became Republicans," explained Bert Rockman, Purdue University political science professor.

"There were momentary revivals for the Democrats -- in 1976 with Jimmy Carter and 1992 with Bill Clinton -- but the die had been cast."

In 2008, Democrats enjoyed a bit of a turnaround as minorities and highly educated whites supported Obama...

If even the blacks are turing on him, which I have long suspected was happening, he's toast, as is his party.

If that is true then this next year and the transition between the this and the next administration will be a most dangerous time. I believe that the Narcissist is very willing to burn down the house, (so to say). If he can’t have it nobody can.

I do not understand our pundits that say that “x” can not beat Obumbo...Savage being one.

I also monitor Rasmussen and see no great change over the
past year.
What I see is that the blacks will stay in the camp, along
with the radical left and illegal voters.
The Marxist MSM is also in a full court press to save the
black messiah.

By the way, I am listening to the Jamie Glazov YouTube as I type this post. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kO7IVl4-JFw

I am convinced that four more years of the Commie will destroy America.

I live in an 85% black apartment complex. The thrill is gone, as BB King would say.

Hahahaha! They all ASSUME I’m on Section 8 like they are. I’m starting to think I’m one of the few who actually pays his own rent here. Very friendly to me, but then again, I’m 6 feet tall and 350 lbs. LOL

That is encouraging, but I have not seen that as I lurk on the idiotic Topix forums.
The young neo-Marxist still act as if they adore him.
Since I have been an expat since 99, I never see blacks.

By the way, since you mention BB...I gave a French girlfriend the thrill of her life one night as she was visiting me in Memphis. (1998?)
I took her in the back door of BB King’s small night club
on Beale St.
BB, unexpectedly showed up that night to play, along with his small instrumental group. We were standing right at the front of the stage not more then 6 ft. from him.

I got to see him at a small club in Indianapolis while going to school at the Defense Information Center at Ft Ben Harrison (now gone) back in 1981. He poured sugar into his Coke. Even I don’t go that far!

If the thrill is indeed gone it is largely irrelevant on how they will vote in November.

Black voters will always vote for a black politician over a white one. They will vote for Obama 95 percent or better this election just like they did in the last one with their racist block vote.

The thrill has been gone for many decades in Detroit and yet they still keep electing the same corrupt leftist black pols there.

BTW, I hope you can find a bullet proof vest to fit your 6ft 5 frame while living in that apt complex. You will need it especially if you are white.

So far we have zero evidence that blacks are turning on him. I'll believe it when it materializes at the only poll that counts.

As I said earlier, I live amongst them. Attitudes have changed radically in the last two years, and these are the welfare recipients and low wage working people. The bumper stickers have been removed, the t-shirts are gone and when his name comes up, people shake their heads and try and change the subject. Anecdotal, of course.

If I have anything to say about it, I won’t be living here in November.

Jeffersonian and Jacksonian Democrats favored the common man’s influence on government; both supported states’ rights and strongly warned against federal intrusion into states’ affairs.

Sounds like conservatives to me!?

Maybe, but you won’t see nearly the turnout among the minority democratic leaning voters that you saw in 2008, then!

Neither President Jackson nor President Jefferson could be called Democrats. They were in what was called the Democratic-Republican Party, which is as far from today’s Dems as it is possible to be.

IMO, any sense that the black voters lack the enthusiasm of 2008 is just the normal cycle of the modern attention span, which isn’t very durable. But when the billion dollar Obama campaign machine gets cranked up over the summer and into the fall, with the rabid enthusiasm of the media behind it, the black community and Obama’s other predictable constituencies will be energized by a non-stop wall of propaganda largely based on racism and mythology. The race card will create a sense that the black community must vote to defend Obama against white haters and gun-clingers and the mythology will give the rest of the Obama zombies their mantra about what a great president this utter failure is. You can think of the race card the way it was used in the OJ case: a panel of jurors with overwhelming evidence of brutal murder refused to believe their own eyes. Obama’s voters are quite capable of the same.

In 2008, Democrats enjoyed a bit of a turnaround as minorities and highly educated whites supported Obama...

"Highly educated whites" = code for academics and others who derive much of their income from government grants, employment, or contracts. The Democrat party has become the party of people dependent upon government for one reason or another, while the Republican party is the party of the non-union private sector.

The Republican strategy from now on should be to starve the public sector as much as possible.
