New Mexico Republican Governor Susana Martinez apparently has no intentions of accepting presidential candidate Mitt Romneys invitation to be his vice president running mate if he wins the nomination.
Mr. Romney mentioned the New Mexico governor as a possible running mate during an interview on Fox News Friday, but Governor Martinez says she will not be accepting offers from any of the candidates to be their possible running mates.
I have no intentions of doing anything different other than being governor, said the New Mexico governor in an interview with ABC News 7 on Friday.
Mr. Romney also mentioned New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie and former Minnesota Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty as possible running mates in his interview Friday.
A Texas native, the 52 year old Governor Martinez is the first female Hispanic governor in the U.S., as well as the first female governor of New Mexico. She also did not offer an endorsement or any support for Mr. Romney during her interview.
Praise from the New Mexico Republican could help Mr. Romney in Florida, as he will face criticism for his plan to veto the Dream Act, an issue of importance to Latino voters. She has attended some fund raising events with the Bain Capital co-founder in the past, and said she is honored to be mentioned as a vice presidential candidate.
As the governor has repeatedly said, she is committed to focusing on turning New Mexicos economy around and providing for a better education for our kids, said Governor Martinezs spokesman Scott Darnell in a statement Friday. She has no interest in serving as vice president and will not be a candidate for the position.
According to a December Public Polling Policy poll, Ms. Martinez the most popular of all of the freshman Republican governors that were elected last fall, enjoying a job approval rating of more than 50 percent.
Both parties are aggressively courting Latino voters, but the New Mexico governor wont be providing that for the Republican party this fall.
My focus is right here in New Mexico, and Im going to complete this job, said Governor Martinez Saturday.
Wasn’t there a Freeper who predicted that she would be Newt’s running mate?
One who is desperate to pick up hispanic votes in FL.
>> What kind of idiot would be floating names for a running mate without actually asking those individuals first?
C’mon — you know the answer! You’d have to be a card-carrying Moron. Like Mitt!
“What kind of idiot would be floating names for a running mate without actually asking those individuals first”?
...the kind of idiot that is desperate for conservative votes. Martinez would probably consider VP with Newt. I would prefer Allen West.
Don't Cuban-Americans (the dominant Hispanic group in Florida) and Mexican-Americans see themselves as 'different'. That is, they care less about the 'Hispanic' label, but care more about the Nation prefix.
I grant you, its abominable that we should have ever let the social engineers (leftists) divide us into hyphenated Americans - in their attempt to divide and conquer and enslave this Nation - but given the hyphens exist, I'd think he'd be trying to pick up Cuban-American votes in Florida by going after Rubio, or someone (since its Romney, maybe he'd go after Desi Arnez).
I don’t know her politics yet, but in theory, a Catholic Pres, with a Catholic Hispanic women veep, with all the years that would follow (up to 16 years), would not only destroy the Democrat hold on the Catholic vote, the Catholic Hispanic vote, but over the time of their years as the Catholic and Hispanic faces in America, would drill home the connection between being Christian and rejecting the Democrat party.
Maybe the Pope would do a campaign spot for ‘em.
It seems to follow more of a regional than national, I have a Puerto Rican friend who only corrects you if you call her Cuban, but gets downright mad if you said she was Mexican.
LOL! Bless you Debs.
The Pope knows my NAME!!! WooHoo!!!
Well the man we prefer for President is already Catholic.
In a neutral search for vice-presidential talent to serve his ticket, that selection could very well turn out to be Catholic also, it might even be Catholic and Hispanic, those are the odds today.
Oh Susana, oh don’t you cry for me, I come from Florida with a banjo on my knee.
I haven’t studied any of their politics so I don’t have a horse in mind, I don’t even know if any of them are conservative enough and desirable enough to be a good choice for veep.
It looks like Rubio would not be the right choice judging by his coming out in this primary fight like this.
Said Rubio: “Mitt Romney is no Charlie Crist. Romney is a conservative. and he was one of the first national Republican leaders to endorse me. He came to Florida, campaigned hard for me, and made a real difference in my race.”
Apparently, English is not New Mexico Republican Governor Susana Martinez first language, as she has no intention rather than intentions of accepting the degenerate coward scumbag MYTH FLIP SLICK WILLARD ROMNEY'S singular offer.
Only in AMERIKA.
