Santorum hints he's quitting Florida, but not race

With little hope of performing well in Florida next week, Rick Santorum may be cutting his losses.

The Republican primary, as predicted, has become solidly a two-man contest between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. Santorum is struggling to compete in a state that is much larger, much more expensive and has a more diverse electorate than the previous three contests.

The former Pennsylvania senator told reporters in Florida that he was leaving the state after Thursday night's debate for a fundraiser in Pennsylvania and to prepare his tax records to make public at home in Virginia, according to an NBC report. He has events in Florida on Sunday, but beyond that it was up in the air whether he would stay through to Tuesday's primary.

What that would mean is that in the five days before Floridians vote, as Gingrich and Romney zig-zag across the state giving speeches, Santorum would be doing minimal campaigning....

He's getting beat by crazy old Ron Paul in many polls. Time to drop out and endorse Newt, Rick.

Santorum is evidence of our dysfunctional primary system. He never had the organization or money to be a national candidate. But because he spent an entire year in Iowa campaigning, he won the first-in-the-nation caucus.

In the name of all that is holy I want them to rearrange the primary system. Eliminate Iowa as first. Eliminate all Caucuses, elections only! Eliminate open primaries, regis=terred Republicans ONLY. Eliminate all small North Eastern states until after super Tuesday.

First Primary should be a a true CONSERVATIVE Republican state that is small enough to get around in, yet large enough to be diverse and more representative of the party.

I don’t know anymore. I will tell you this from what is going on, if Rick is a true Conservative he needs to drop and support Newt. Right now there is a full court press to defeat Newt and Conservatism. Rick is being left alone because he is low in the polls. Believe me if had traction the RINOs would be after him.

With Fox News, Drudge, Coulter, Beck, and the list goes on and on going all out for Mitt, we Conservatives need to get behind one candidate. I hope Sarah comes down from Alaska and campaigns for Newt. The war is on like I never dreamed. I guess we will see where Rick Santorum really stands in the coming days and weeks.

Many states (e.g. Illinois) don't have party registration. Also, many primary states have the dates set by state law. I'd be inclined to go the other way. Make it mostly caucuses, the Alabamas and Texases more than balance out the Iowas and Nevadas.
