The True Cost of Romney, Part 1
Free Republic ^ | April 25, 2012 | Black Elk

Posted on 04/26/2012 7:24:26 PM PDT by Windflier

...recognize that the election of the likes of Romney will make a successful run by an actual conservative, an actual Republican, an actual patriot, an actual candidate who will not sell out on each and every issue of actual importance to conservatives, an actual POTUS who can rally Republicans, conservatives, Reagan Democrats and genuine independents to the cause of restoring and preserving Western Civilization in this nation, as opposed to obsessing on paying off his rich friends and bailing out his incompetent Wall Street boodlers and peers, unlikely until at least 2016.

In the event that Romney loses now, or in the more difficult event that he can be successfully forced out in just four years, then conservatives (actual conservatives) can succeed in 2016.

If Romney is nominated and re-nominated in 2016, the earliest victory would be in 2020, and only if conservatives can convince the public that Romney's manifest liberal failures are NOT the responsibility of whatever party will by then be the actual opposition party to the Demonrats.

Neither 2016 nor 2020 look promising but, from the perspective of the disaster that was Gerald Ford's nomination in 1976, neither did 1980 look promising. No candidate who ran this year is an analogy to Reagan's run in 1976 which was necessary to his 1980 landslide over the worthless Carter (Obozo I) and to the defeat of a net 12 radical Demonrats (possibly excepting Talmadge) in the US Senate of the time, as well as of Jacob Javits, George McGovern, Gaylord Nelson, Herman Talmadge, Robert Morgan, Frank Church, Birch Bayh, and John Durkin, all defeated that year in the general.

Such an election in 2016 will be possible IF and only if the above-described actually conservative folks can settle long in advance on ONE and only ONE extremely capable candidate, burning with a true raging flame and dedicated above all to the babies, to gun rights, to preserving one man and one woman as the one and only form of marriage to be recognized in our nation now and forever, cutting taxes not on the greedy Wall Street pigs who have created the economic disaster and tragedy that Obozo gladly perpetuates (with their heavy financial support just as they supported Clinton twice and just as they supported Romney in this year's primaries) but on ordinary Americans, to restoring the jobs of those who fought our wars and who would work with their hands for a living, to preserving the rights of the Catholic Church to which I belong, and every other faith and church in this country to which other folks of good will and good faith belong, and which are consistent with Natural Law and Western Civilization, and to ruthlessly lancing every infectious pus pocket of special interest big shot corruption regardless of party identification, organize as conservatives have never organized before.

Such a 2016 candidate should have a demonstrated capability and track record for both good humor and also for actually fighting and verbally destroying the enemy within and without the GOP, to chase the corrupt money changers from the temple of our party, to diplomatically support similarly committed and principled candidates in Senate, House, and Governorship primaries to take the party back from the slimy degenerate liberals who would dominate it under Romney, to hold Romney relentlessly to conservative GOP principles for each and every moment that his lavishly special interest funded, despicable campaign of lies, slanders, and libels against each and every decent GOP opponent enabled him to have, NEVER to forget that campaign and NEVER to fail to hold it against Romney and his supporters.

Likewise, such a movement must seek to hold each and every "GOP" slimeball and Elitocrat in GOP drag in the Senate such as LAMAR!!! Alexander, Bob Corker, Lindsay Graham, Lisa Murkowski, Mark "Nancyboy" Kirk, Scott Brown, John Cornyn, John McCain, Thad Cochrane, Susan Collins, Richard Lugar, Saxby Chambliss, John Isakson, and any others like them including probably the modern day spineless Orrin Hatch, to actual conservative Republican standards and not to sell out their constituents' interests to satisfy Romneyism or to give in-house GOP aid and comfort to Romneyism in any way inconsistent with conservatism.

I urge you to vote your conscience. Either you have one worth respecting or you do not. To remind you....character is how you behave when no one is watching (as in the voting booth). Either you have it or you don't. You cannot depend on blaming others if you don't measure up. That lack of character is what we have in the White House now, and it is what we will have in the White House if Obozo is defeated by the Massachusetts Mushball and Serial Liar. I am not ready to sell my country down the river yet by voting for either of them. If you are willing to vote for the Mittwit and he succeeds in buying the White House and its power with his relentless well-funded lies, then prepare to face responsibility for his every crime, moral deviation, and moral abdication of responsibility while in office. Just remember not to dare blame actual conservatives or actual Republicans or actual Americans who have understandably refused to support either of them for the near certain evils of the next four years.

You don't need advice from me as to how you should vote any more than I need your advice on that subject. Just bear in mind that, if you vote for Romney and therefore for the destruction of the GOP and of the republic, as between thee and me, there is not and never will be a "we."

It does not matter that you voted for Newt Gingrich in the primaries, or for anyone else. Vote for Romney in the general election and you have defined yourself for the foreseeable future.

Anyone claiming to be a conservative who would sell out to Romney running as the Romney that conservatives well know him to be, need not be accused of a poverty of imagination and a poverty of commitment and, for that matter, of a poverty of principle, as each of those is patently obvious. No accusations are necessary. To vote for any old moneyed POS so long as he, she or it is a "Republican" POS invertebrate, is neither imaginative, nor evidence of commitment nor, to say the very least, evidence of conservative principle.

Understand that what elected Ronaldus Maximus was, in addition to his amiable and genial exterior and sense of humor and adherence to principle, a generation (my generation) of extremely angry but principled grass roots conservatives who despised the likes of Rockefeller, Ford, Nixon, Dole, Michel, Romney the Elder, Scranton, Ed Brooke, Jacob Javits, Charles Mathias, Robert Planned Barrenhood Packwood, Tom Kuchel, Lowell Weicker, and their ilk. We did not think much more of Bush the Elder.

No one thought we could defeat the GOP-E, much less elect a man derided as a second-rate B-movie actor to the White House. We did. I doubt that many of you were part of what was necessary to do that. It took backbone and character and a militant refusal to compromise with the evil that would use money to control the GOP and its policies. That's what we have done and what we can do and what we must do. Maybe Mittens can get you a nice job on Wall Street since money, in his mind, can buy just about anything and anyone and you don't drive a very hard bargain.

The potential candidate exists and did not run this year. That candidate does not qualify as a "White Knight," but rather as a Lady. Thatcher did a pretty good job in socialist England. Sarah would do a very good job here. Other backup candidates need to be developed and a new conservative movement needs to be recruited, trained in ideology and in ground warfare tactics, mobilized and networked and to wage an internal GOP civil war like the one in the 1960s and 1970s, and with a similar result.

Also, bear in mind, that the GOP Elite despised and abandoned Ronaldus Magnus through much of 1980 and he trailed in the polls until the Friday before the election, when the decisive shift among those who became known as Reagan Democrats and independent voters began to show in the polls, the lamestream media refused to report those polls from Saturday through election day, and Reagan administered his first definitive slaughter of national Demonrats including Carter and the Senatorial and Congressional Demonrats, carrying 44 states, including Taxachusetts and every state in New England not named Rhode Island, New York (coming close to carrying even New York City itself by massive support from Catholics and Orthodox Jews), New Jersey, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania, California, and thirty more, losing only Georgia, Minnesota, Maryland, West Virginia, Rhode Island and Hawaii. In 1984, he beat Mondale in all but Minnesota where Reagan showed mercy by cancelling two full days of scheduled Minnesota campaigning on the Saturday and Sunday before election day.

Am I doing a "crap job" of selling you on this vision? Who was selling? Part of building the necessary movement is excluding those afflicted by tunnel vision. If a candidate wants your vote, that doesn't mean I am seeking your vote for such a candidate. Whether you realize it or not, "the dominant two-party system we have," is in effect, that the Demonrats and the Romneycans are simply two heads of the same evil beast. That leads to the inevitable conclusion that we are expected to choose between Obozo and Obozo Lite. I won't.

If Romney and his sycophants want conservative votes, he and they will have to do the selling. That is too demanding and doomed a job by far for any rational person. It is time for Governor Etch-a-Sketch to go back to being what we all know he is: anti-baby, anti-marriage, anti-gun, anti-worker, anti-American, etc., and the devoted love slave of moneyed leftist interests, and try to compete with Obozo for the votes of Obozo's base who are far closer to Romney than he is to conservatives and to the values and morals we actual conservatives hold dear.

The first error in your thinking, is that Obama is merely a socialist. He is much worse than that.

The second error in your thinking is that a Republican Congress can hog tie and handcuff Obama. What prevents him from continuing to do end arounds of Congress like he has already done numerous times?

The third error of your thinking is that Carter gave rise to Reagan, and that if we let Obama get re-elected we will be able to get another Reagan elected. If that were the case we would have a Reagan type of conservative poised to do the same in this election.

The fourth error of your thinking is that America can endure any amount of damage, but the savior that will arise after another Obama term will be able to make it all right once again.

What I am discussing is the relative wisdom of fighting amongst conservatives, thus allowing the re-election of Obama who can do irreparable damage, as opposed to someone who may or may not do damage as you fear. I know Obama will do major damage, I am hoping that Romney will be quite different than I fear and that he may surprise me. If not than I hope that a Republican majority in Congress would be conservative enough to actually prevent him from doing some of what I fear.

In short, I am looking for the best outcome in this election, and that involves removing the usurper from power first and foremost.

This really is not about us vs them. It's about how do we go about restoring the Constitution, and turning ths country back around. Allowing Obama 4 more years, to fill the courts with liberal judges, to direct agencies (like the EPA) to adopt regulations that continue to smother us, to appoint Czars that further put this country into econmic holes, with the far-flung hope that it will give rise to a Reagan type conservative, is just plain ludicrous.

If you cannot see the wisdom in that, then this country is toast.

Funny, I do not see Romney surrounding himself with all sorts of left-wing radicals.

Have I missed that?

Continue to use your pretzel-logic to convince yourself, and perhaps regrettablly others, that Romney is the far more dangerous choice.

Hie record is no where close to Obama's. He did give Mass. the Romney care the majority of the stupid liberals that dominate there asked for, and then the Democratic controlled legislature in Mass. changed it considerably. What he did there was wrong, but it did not affect me, and as far as I am concerned the people of Mass. got exactly what they asked for.

But he has not surrounded himself with the kind of people that Obama has. He does not hate America and want to fundamentally transform it. Just to name 2 of the vast differences between the 2 men.

Windflier:

Thank you for reposting my words since I do not know how to do that.

mylife:

As the author of the original words of this thread, which Windflier has kindly re-posted for me since I am an aging computer illiterate resistant to learning all these new-fangled technological tricks, I will respond.

IF and when Sarah endorses Romney, her endorsement will not affect my vote and I will make every effort to shed no more than one tear, ignore such a fault and continue to view her quite positively as the conservative and religious heroine that she is, since unlike Romney she has earned the respect of every actual conservative and every person of faith. I will remember that ours is a fallen world. I will depend on Jesus Christ and upon the Catholic Church to which I belong and which Romney persecuted in Massachusetts by the same sort of regulations that Sebelius has signed off on under Romneycare and which Romney has not repudiated to this day in any way. I would not vote for Caligula or Diocletian or for Nero or for the twentieth century's Hitler (Godwin may go to hell), Stalin, Lenin or Mao, and I won't vote for Romney.

Romney is a baby-killer, a supporter of rump-ranging posing as "marriage," a gun grabber, a tax hiker on folks of ordinary means to comfort his fat cat pals and trust fund babies. I don't care if Ronaldus Maximus returns to life and endorses Romney or runs as his running mate. Romney is a serial liar about every issue that matters. He has done nothing to earn my vote or that of any actual conservative.

No rant I have ever posted against him has had to do with the mere fact that he is a member of what I consider to be the quite respectable Mormon church (however much I may disagree with its scriptural teachings from the Book of Mormon just as I disagree with other Christian churches not my own and they with me) but it is more than fair to say that he is a poor excuse for a Mormon, committed as he is to abortion and "gay marriage" among other things which the Mormons rightly reject. If he were a better Mormon, he would be, at least to me, a better man and a better candidate.

Finally, I will watch this farce unfold, while I vote my conscience and my principles for our own fellow FReeper Tom Hoefling (known here as Eternal Vigilance) who will never leave me feeling a need for an immediate red hot shower as I would if I ever voted for Romney. I will respect others who vote for Virgil Goode on the Constitution Party while disagreeing with its Paulistinian isolationist foreign policy.

I will sleep the sleep of the just and not the wary and uneasy sleep of the compromiser or of the sell-out. I will have plenty to account for when I meet my Maker but voting for trash like Romney will not be among my sins.

From a merely strategic point-of-view, a 3rd party POTUS candidate would be a great service in places like ILL and CT ... by dragging the right out to support local conservatives further down the ballot who are in tough races.

SUch a candidate would only run into vicious opposition in the so-called swing-states. So, yep, we concede CT to Obambi, very happily.

Funny, I do not see Romney surrounding himself with all sorts of left-wing radicals.

The man has not even gotten a majority of delegates and will never have a reason to attempt to woo conservatives more, and he goes and places an activist for legitimization of so-called homosexual marriage an important position as strategist and spokesman.

So far he is one for one in the disappointment department. Maybe he owes Matt Drudge something.

Yes it is troubling that he picked Richard Grenell as a strategist & spokesman.

However, that pale's in comparison to Obama's associations.

Really Dr. I am telling you that I am suffering from servere headaches and you are obsessing about the pimple you see on my forehead.

I am in no way happy with our choices, but of the 2 choices, it will be Romney that gets my cote, a vote to defeat Obama. Once Obama is gone I will turn my conservative ire towards Mitt Romney, if in fact, he leads as a socialist or progressive.

Ah, but you are a sellout. You are selling out to the man that is all that Romney is and even more, Barack Hussein Obama. I know you don't see it as that, but that is who you are aiding and ultimately casting your vote for. You may think you are casting your vote for someone else, but no it will be for Obama.

So I take it that, if & when Sarah endorses Romnay, in your mind she will become the sellout. Is that correct? She couldn't be saying okay folks, we didn't get the candidate we all would ahve preferred, but even with all his warts this man is still better for America than another 4 years of Obama.

The old adage, penny wise and pound foolish, comes to mind.

Yes it is troubling that he picked Richard Grenell as a strategist & spokesman.

Well, you stated that he wasn't surrounding himself with lefties, and he is. Out of ALL of the people, including many true conservatives who would be on board for Romney at this point, his first pick out of the gate is far-lefty on the kind of issue that shows a profoundly disordered understanding of humanity.

For a substantial number of us, Romney is still auditioning. As they say, Epic Fail. If Bill Clinton made such a choice in 1992, we would have been laughing at it all of the way to the election.

You can vote for whomever you want. Mitt Romney is a bad man who ran an utterly dishonest and malicious campaign. If we put the imprimatur on the RINO iteration of the Chicago way, this movie will be re-run every four years.

I know that many Freepers in good conscience honestly believe that the country will not survive four more years of Obama. That may well be so. I KNOW that if Romney has a four or eight year opportunity, there will never be any turning back, barring perhaps a total repudiation with a Reagan '76 type run, only this time with the challenger winning.

A lot of the good conservatives like you who will hold their nose and vote Romney, would be constitutionally unable to put a lot of energy behind it. People say to support Romney as if the Republic depends on it. They don't really mean it. They are not going to spend the hours on the phone, donate the money, put on a fake smile and promote Romney to their associates except in a negative ABO fashion. Many of them even feel a little bit dirty.

As a former New Englander and present Illinoisian, I know the fake Republican when I see it. In 1998, I voted for the Democrat Poshard for governor. Convicted felon George Lyin' Ryan broke his promise to the gullible pro-lifers, vetoed the partial birth abortion bill, emptied death row, and was convicted of selling commercial drivers licenses for campaign donations. In that case the Dem was actually better (pro gun, pro life). Years ago, John Silber was a rather conservative Democrat who lost to the patrician snot William Weld. Since then, the Dems have purged the Poshards and Silbers, and have what they want ideologically. We must do the same with the Welds, Ryans and Romneys.

I'm thinking the long game. If the dam breaks within four years, it would likely be a rupture with Obama, and it be easier to pick friends to side with. With Romney, a fast, but smooth descent with bad guys infiltrating every nook and cranny. If the dam doesn't break, we have an opportunity to either run a united campaign in 2016 against Romney, who will likely draw only one challenger as an incumbent, or another slugfest, only without an obvious RINO successor to the Romney RINO mantle.

Dr. Dr. Dr., 1 person is not surrounding one's self. If he continues to pick these types it will not be encouraging for sure, and all that you have said rings as true as can be.

Like I stated, there are no good choices in this Presidential race, only better choices.

You're dreaming if you think this country will still exist if Obama gets another 4 years. 4 years to put in Supreme Court Justices, U.S. Federal Courts Justices, not to mention filling the bureaucracy even more with Marxists & Communists. 4 years to further eviscerate our military & our weapons supply. 4 more years to give our monies to terrorist organizations (No wonder his adminsitration made the statement, the War On Terror is over. What they can't say, yet, is the terrorists have won. That will come when he his re-elected). 4 more years to spread our wealth and destroy the middle-class. 4 more years to do end arounds Congress to further ignore the Constitution, and the list goes on and on.

Just look at our schools, full of Communists & Marxists, who have been subverting our children for decades which is why the majority believe the democrat false utopian pipe dream.

Look at union leadership, and to a large percentage, the rank & file union members. Again full of Communists & Marxists in the leadership roles, subverting blue-collar workers to believe they deserve a bigger piece of the pie, while in actuality giving them smaller & smaller pieces of the pie. Because the pies are disappearing, largely due to unions.

Look even at our churches, many of them are subverting the Constitution as well.

No wonder God is abandoning America, because the majority have abandoned him.

We are at the precipice, and neither choice is worth a sheet, but one of the choices has a real desire to take us over the cliff and will do just that given 4 more years.

For all I know Romney may want to do the same, but I am hoping that is not the case. His legacy to date does not give me much hope, but I have seen the other's version of hope & change, and I feel certain I know the final outcome with that choice. Now if Ron Paul or Newt can overtake him by some sort of miracle, the same logic prevails for either of them as well

Bottomline is, we do not have the luxury to sit on the sideline. commiserating that the Stupid Party has once again selected another progressive POS to run against Obama.

We must defeat Obama. It would help if we could get more Consitution loving people in Congress too, but that seems like an even more daunting task. I believe in God though, and am hoping that there are enough of us still remaining, that he will answer our prayers to return this country once again to the shining city on the hill.
