Why do Indian Americans Support Obama?
The Wall Street Journal's India Real Time ^ | June 3, 2012 | Visi Tilak

Posted on 06/02/2012 10:00:42 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

An overwhelming 85% of Indian Americans support Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election, according to a poll conducted earlier this year. The results of the study, which were published in early May, also revealed that only 67% of Indian Americans polled voted for Obama in 2008.

Mr. Obama’s life story seems to resonate better than Mitt Romney’s with many Indian Americans. In the study, which was conducted by Lake Research Partners, on the question of Obama vs. Romney, the ratio was a staggering 76 to 8 in favor of Mr. Obama.

Mr. Obama has shown strong support for Indian Americans, appointing them to some of the highest offices and continuing to laud the contribution of Asian Americans, even though his outsourcing policies have raised eyebrows...

I am suspicious-- this woman is a stooge for Obama. But data is data. The only question is if the poll is rigged.

Be that as it may, let's remember that two state governors are Indian American--and they are both Republicans.

What would that story be ? Nobody knows who he is.

No real Americans support Obama. Hyphenated Americans with tenuous loyalties, maybe. BUT these people have no particular attachment to our history, our culture, our way of life. Their view of America is limited to “where's mine?” Those who promise most will get their vote. And traditional western notions of morality are out with them: they are the ones who kill girl babies in sex selected abortions. Another reason to severely curtail immigration from non Western countries.

Ever been to a REAL REZ?

It’s a Welfare paradise. And a picture-perfect example of the human destruction and corruption wrought by a lifetime of gub’ment welfare.

Most will vote however the Tribe Leaders tell them to.

American Reservation Indians have the highest rates of poverty, unemployment and disease of any ethnic group in America.

In the early 1980s, then-US Secretary of the Interior James Watt commented that one did not have to go to the USSR or Eastern Europe to discover the failures of socialism. Those failures, he said, were evident on the reservations, which his department oversaw. Not surprisingly, the comments drew partisan attacks, and the press dismissed Watt as making “bigoted” comments.

For uttering this inconvenient truth, he was almost fired.

My co-worker is an Indian naturalized citizen. He states he’s an ‘Independent’. The thing I see is that he thinks he’s smarter than the average voter. He is also basically clueless on American values and history.

These immigrants bring their cultures’ values with them with no regard for our own culture. They know nothing about America outside of the big cities to which they immigrate.

Immigrants are coming here for money, not to be Americans.

Obama gave away 1 million American technology jobs to India. He brought them here and sent our job there. They laugh at us. The tax treaty involves a tax relief for companies that hire Indian techs, Americans need not apply.

You are right on with your statements. I would venture to say that my tribe (Yurok, N. Calif. ) are probably about 90% Democrat voters. We are a little over 5000 Indians and the largest tribe in California. We do not have a casino although we have been okay ed and one is being started as we speak. That will not make us rich because our tribe is pretty much isolated from large communities. Most tribes have been on the dole for so many years now that they actually depend on it as a way of life. A large portion of our people live off the Rez so as to find jobs. The ones that cling to the Rez are pretty much welfare Indians. They have no incentive to better their lives.

The Democrats, every election year, love the Indians and promise them the moon but after the election, they get nothing until the next election and then they get a new promise. This has been going on for a couple hundred years and the Tribes never catch on. Of course you know that the White People put them in this situation and keep them there. There is plenty of fault to go around. Socialism works on the Reservations because they have a never ending supply of tax payers money to keep the system going.

INDIAN American, Whites, Blacks, beaners, gays, evangelicals, Catholics, wasps, immigrants, democrats, republicans etc etc etc

When is it going to be just AMERICANS? All this divide and rule is the reason you have clowns like obama and romney.

I don’t understand, why is it people like Buzz Aldrin, a person who embodies what an American should aspire to, why is it someone like this can’t run for president?

Is there some law?

A lot of Indians listen to the alphabet news media and believe a lot of the lies that they say. They may be sympathetic to BHO because of what they know about the period of slavery. A lot of them have bought into the lies that Repubs are for very rich, white people. A lot of indian immigrants are not christians, and may feel that repubs may force christianity on them. A lot of the younger crowd think that being liberal is the cool thing, and for educated folks.

That being said, I find it hard to believe the 76 to 8 ratio. The republican party has some of the more prominent people of indian background- Bobby Jindal, Nikki Haley, and one of my personal favorites and an old timer from the Reagan administration, Dinesh D'Souza.

I am a naturalized American citizen born & raised in India. When I arrived here as a foreign student, I liked democrats better than republicans. Eventually it dawned on me that democrats were keeping me from moving up through middle class. Every time I received a pay raise, my tax bracket also received a raise! After acquiring citizenship, I have voted republican ever since. So it took over a decade for my transformation. Most people from India have been here for less than 20 years. If many are pro-Obama, it is probably a knee jerk reaction to vote for another minority block person.

As people mature and become prosperous, most will become more conservative. Those Indians who are here just to exploit benefits from government will continue to support democrats. But as a group, Indians are doing very well financially in US so I expect more turning republican and conservative, like myself.

In that respect Indians are not much different than other immigrants. I have to believe FDR was popular among new immigrants. When one is starting out on the bottom rung, it is very easy for one to fall for the rhetoric of democrats that they are for the little guy.

Not inconsistent. He most likely is smarter than the average voter and at the same time ignorant of American values and history, at least in their formal expression.

Immigrants are coming here for money, not to be Americans.

Nothing new about that.

What's new is America's willingness to be influenced. As opposed to influencing, by applying fire to the melting pot.

Originaly immigration meant that they came here to be Americans forever and for the freedom and opportunities.

Now they largely come purely for the money, many of them literally come solely for money, with plans to work, lock into the system and then move back home, and many of them are still foreign citizens combined with their American citizenship, some even vote in elections back home.

When someone is here to benefit from the system for the short term, for maximum profits and then leave, how do you think they vote?

When someone is resentful of Western ways, Western philosophy, Western religion, even the Western race, and could care less about their ideas and ideals, and whatever long term goals Westerners care about, or worse, think that they are evil, wrong, and misguided and need to be replaced to please their God and their man, and they only want to make money, how do you think they vote, what goals do you think they have in mind for traditional America and Western ideals, hint, to erase them and make them like home.

Indians are relatively new immigrants to the U.S. The earlier immigrants had to start at the bottom and worked hard to get ahead, through education and growing a business e.t.c. A lot of the newer immigrants have come through the I.T. wave, and got good jobs when they landed here, and started out well off. They never had to work up the chain like the earlier group. I think the earlier group got to appreciate and understand the country a bit more.

I think the earlier group got to appreciate and understand the country a bit more.

A part of that comes from this being the modern world, 180 years ago immigration was more challenging and permanent (not a plane flight, it was one way, bridges were burned), and America was truly wild and dangerous, yet it was already the freest, greatest, most noble place for the brave men and women who could qualify, to be.

Today it is about money, the globe is full of centers of immigration for economic gain, now it is largely about who has the easiest entry rules, and the most free goodies, America and Britain, France, Sweden and other Western nations win in that category of combinations.

Every person I have met who is of Indian origin, non-Muslim whether MD, business people, cab driver, or the guys who work in a deli, are politically and fiscally conservative, and vote Republicans. They are not fans of socialism or Obama.

You are correct. I meant to say in my post that the earlier group of Indian immigrants (prior to the recent IT wave), had to work hard up the chain through getting an education here or growing a business from scratch. This gave them a better appreciation for this land of opportunity and freedom.

I know lots of 1st gen Asian Indians who are by and large ambitious, not necessarily smart ( but some are) and I have observed the following:

1. They are gullible and naive and they fall for the MSM lies quite frequently. If they see something in the newspaper, on TV, or in the theater, they believe it. For example, show them a Michael Moore movie, and they lap up every minute of it.

2. The 1st gens also are very poorly schooled in traditonal Amercan values and history. The test legal immigrants take to become a citizen is abysmal and laughable, as you might expect.

3. They come from a country of some deprivation and view life as a zero-sum game. They like the free stuff.

3.
