Lt. Gov. Dewhurst is not the GOP establishment-backed candidate.

Cruz is the GOP establishment-backed candidate.

That good conservative people have bought into the ruse is amazing to me.

“If he has done such a good job, why can’t he explain what he has done! Just lay out the conservative things that he has gotten passed.”

For the record, fortheDeclaration, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst has no problem explaining what he has done, and you don’t have to search to find out, but since you claim to be unaware of all the conservative things Dewhurst has gotten passed, I am proud to “just lay them out”.

But first I’ll answer the question you posed of “Why go out of the way to attack Cruz if you have a real conservative record?

Answer: how is telling the truth about what Cruz does in his occupation as a lawyer and who pays him an “attack” in the first place? The public needs to know this aspect of Cruz. Contrasting Cruz lack of experience in anything besides litigation with your own record and life experience is not an attack. It is stating fact.

But isn’t the question in your mind, why does Cruz go out of his way to run his whole campaign as an attack on Dewhurst as not being conservative when Dewhurst’s record proves he is a conservative?

There’s a major reason why TEXAS conservatives are coalescing behind Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the open U.S. Senate race. While virtually all candidates in the extended field agree we need a dramatic housecleaning in Washington, Dewhurst is the sole contender who has proven he can deliver on what he promises.

Dewhurst has compiled an impressive record of budget-cutting and trimming government, starting in his first political office with a major reduction in force at the General Land Office. He continued to hold the line during his five legislative sessions as Lieutenant Governor. Even during periodic rough economic times, the Texas Legislature has eliminated expected shortfalls and balanced the state budget entirely by cutting spending, never once resorting to a general tax increase. That’s a record unmatched anywhere in the country.

Dewhurst has also pushed through legislation protecting vulnerable human life, (ever hear of the Texas sonogram law and Texas defunding of the Planned Parenthood abotionists?) trimming excesses of personal injury trial lawyers, maintaining a job-friendly regulatory and tax climate, safeguarding the integrity of elections (strongest Voter ID Law out there and currently being litigated by the State of Texas AG against the feds challenges to it) and reducing taxes when possible - all while strengthening our border security (and it’s true he has passed everything he can to do so without getting us sued by the Federal Government like Arizona - and when that is decided in the courts, I’m sure we will get similar legislation in Texas done). He has helped create a favorable business climate that has attracted businesses and created jobs, and made Texas the envy of other states during this post-2008 recession. When Dewhurst vows to take this Texas model to Washington, he does so with credibility and personal experience.

Dewhurst has managed to accomplish all this in the Texas Senate, where the minority party still has the numbers to stop any legislation dead in its tracks. But Dewhurst has a businessman’s ability to work to a successful deal without sacrificing his principles. As Ronald Reagan advocated, he takes 90 percent and tries to get the remaining 10 percent next time. He’s been equally effective in enacting conservative social policy as well. As one prominent pro-life leader has said: “Until Lt. Gov. Dewhurst was elected, the state senate was where our legislation came to die. He has been a game-changer for the pro-family movement.”

Even as Lt. Governor, Dewhurst has never been part of the inside Austin establishment. He was strongly opposed by the lobby when he first ran for Lt. Governor. Since his election, he’s been a quiet and persistent advocate for transparency and reform, and an enemy of business as usual. He’s developed a well-deserved reputation for intelligence, integrity and independence. He is serious about public policy. Dewhurst is never afraid to dive into issues and come up with solutions that embrace free market principles, as he’s done with state health care and other issues. And he’s as persistent as he is serious. He will make a principled and determined U.S. Senator.

After making it in the energy and agriculture sectors, starting relatively late in life, Dewhurst became active in political life - even while continuing to run his investment firm. He knows from personal experience that our national wealth expands, and our people become prosperous, only when the private sector takes risks and creates jobs. More importantly, he knows how the heavy hand of government can undermine the hopes and dreams of entrepreneurs and small businessmen. Congress needs more businessmen, more men and women who have created jobs and who can address our troubled economy with personal experience and conviction.

The U.S. Senate race has produced a number of solid candidates and future political talent. Virtually all of them talk the talk about cleaning up the mess in Washington - repealing Obamacare, reducing spending, creating a good business environment. But only one has truly walked the walk, and proven that he can deliver. Dewhurst has a solid track record of accomplishment reining in government on the state level, balancing budgets, protecting the core American family, defending our sovereignty, and safeguarding the American dream for future generations.”

There, Dewhurst’s conservatism laid out for you as you requested.

You know, it wasn’t long ago when one conservative Freeper didn’t have to explain to another conservative Freeper that we are hoping to change the Republican Establishment out and get conservatives in.

Thus, arose the shorthand term, “GOPE”.

The Tea Party types also arose TRYING to break the pattern of inbreeding and new breeding of more of the same RINO do-nothings, coming up from the state ranks to national office.

That pattern was successfully broken in November, 2010, and Tea Party efforts were rewarded with victory by turning over the House of Representatives, doing so with conservatives!

Now comes you, who say to me, that you “sick of the term, “GOPE”. Already?

Guess, next, you will be tired of the term, Tea Party?

If you want to blow your credibility over the Dewhurst race, then there is no doubt here, that you are sure not going to be up to the job of advancing against the Establishment nationally.

Everybody is all gung-ho for change nationally, until it comes to their own back yard, and then they want to sit there in their hair curlers and change nothing of the plan or the pattern, but want to entrench the same ole same old.

( Same with the schools. All schools are killing education until it comes to their own and nothing changes.)

On the Texas race, for US Senate, you peck against the plan to bring in insurgents, who might prove to be a threat to the old pattern that is much preferred by both the Democrats and the GOPE of Texas, who have long groomed Dewhurst for ascendancy to the US Senate and/or governor of Texas, which ever came first.

Kiss activism goodbye if we all fail to disturb the expected plan and the cabal of planners, who own the expectations and the candidate.

This would include Texas.

dammit, I’m not sitting here in hair curlers.

OK, I see you are passionate for change and you are maybe a little right about people loving their own congressmen, etc.

But I think you’re throwing down the gauntlet in the wrong place.

Dewhurst is not some bad dude. He is conservative.

No one (including you) has been able to tell me why I should vote for Cruz, except that he’s a new dude and not establishment.

I’m not against establishment per se. If a guy has been around doing a good job, I think that is a recommendation.

I’m not sick of the tea party at all. I am sick of the appellation GOP-e being thrown around at every Republican who has put a foot wrong according to some of the people here who demand perfection.

Plus they all have a different idea of what perfection is.

Hey, I’ll stack my conservative principles against yours or anybodys, but I’ll reserve the right not to foam at the mouth.

Okay?

I wasn't talking about Perry (who I supported for President).

I was talking about Dewurst.

Funny, I live in Texas and I haven't seen or heard any ad's touting Dewhurst's conservative record.

I have seen a number attacking Cruz.

The fact that Cruz isn't a 'career politican' is a plus, not a minus.

“Funny, I live in Texas and I haven’t seen or heard any ad’s touting Dewhurst’s conservative record.

That’s strange. I have. What media market are you in?

“I have seen a number attacking Cruz.”

As I mentioned in my post that answered your request to lay out Dewhurst’s conservative record, telling people about Cruz Lawyerly background and the type of case Crus takes on is not “attacking”.

Cruz and his out-of-state interests falsely claiming Dewhurst is not a conservative and is a tax-raiser, and member of the “establishment” - now that is attacking.

“The fact that Cruz isn’t a ‘career politican’ is a plus, not a minus.”

The fact is, Cruz IS the career politician in this race - not Dewhurst! Here’s how. After attending Princeton with an eye on becoming a lawyer as part of the journey to becoming a career politian, taking the same well-known route many in the Senate have done, Cruz then went to Harvard, then clerked in Washington, D.C., then was appointed to high positions in government, for most of his working life, then started working for a famous international law firm, from where he is running for his FIRST elective position - one of the two United States Senate seats from Texas. I’d say that is about the purest form of career politician there is!

David Dewhurst, on the other hand, went to public schools in Texas, played basketball at the University of Arizona, became an officer in the U.S. Air Force, afterward working in intelligence for the feds a short time, finding out that didn’t suit him, resigned to go into private business when Texas was in recession back in the 80s, ultimately becoming successful, then being elected land commissioner of Texas at age 53. That is not being a career politician - that is a private citizen becoming a public-spirited public official in his home state for the right reasons.

And that is why I am asking you to really try to set aside the pre-conceived ideas you have about Dewhurst, and Cruz, and with an open-mind consider that maybe another conservative guy like yourself, but with a differing perspective on this race now, may have stumbled onto some information after really looking and changed his opinion, because I used to have the same opinion about this race as you!

I live in the FT Bend area.

Now if Dewhurst isn't getting out his message, whose fault is that?

I haven't seen a single Dewhurst commercial or received anything in the mail that listed his conservative accomplishments.

“I live in the FT Bend area. Now if Dewhurst isn’t getting out his message, whose fault is that? I haven’t seen a single Dewhurst commercial or received anything in the mail that listed his conservative accomplishments.”

I have received mailers and seen and heard radio and TV messaages that inform of Lt. Gov. Dewhurst’s conservative accomplishments. I can’t say why you have not. The fact that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst led Cruz in the primary shows more conservatives get the message than you seem to think.

Perhaps someone else in your household threw away Dewhurst’s mailers before you got a chance to look them over. Perhaps you weren’t watching TV or listening to the radio when Dewhurst’s informative commercials about his conservative credentials came on. Perhaps you tuned them out because positive commencials are boring compared to attack ads. Obviously you’ve paid attention to the Cruz attack ads, which are the reason all these tea-party people have this misperception about Dewhurst’s conservative record. And when Dewhurst, in self-defense, informs people of who the real Cruz is and what he does, - you do remember that!

What I think motivates Cruz supporters is the misperception that Dewhust alone should have gotten EVERYTHING passed that they wanted when in 2010 we took the majority in the legislature, including all anti-immigration and anti-abortion bills they wanted, but they forgot completely that in the Texas Senate the minority party still has the ability to stop any legislation dead in its tracks, and they cannot be ignored if we conservative were to get anything accomplished at all. And we really did accomplish a lot. But by then, we had Cruz making false accusation that Dewhurst was in favor of a state income tax, calling him Dewcrist, that he was GOP-e and all the other negative campaign nonsense I refuted in my earlier posts to you, and I do give credit to Cruz for running a clever campaign that has drawn in this new tea-party movement.

One other thing, about this career politician business - historically, with the advantages of incumbency offered by campaign laws and the Senate Committee to Reelect Incumbent Republicans, if Cruz is elected, Texas would probably be stuck with another Kay Bailey Hutchison in perpetuity. With Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, we would most certainly not.
