Gov. Rick Perry is putting his months of attacks on Mitt Romney behind him and rallying to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's banner.
The Texas Republican makes his first campaign trip on behalf of Romney on Friday when he visits Elko, Nev. He'll make two evening stops there Friday evening, with visits to the Silver State Stampede Rodeo and a Romney campaign office. Romney, who's a former Massachusetts governor, isn't expected to appear.
Nevada is a key state Obama won in 2008.

Romney camp deploys old GOP foes to battleground states
“First up was Newt Gingrich, who on Thursday attended a question-and-answer session at a Romney Victory office in Jacksonville, FL. Today, Texas Gov. Rick Perry will travel to Elko, NV to open a campaign field office for the former Massachusetts governor. And on Saturday, Rick Santorum will attend a Romney victory office opening in Greensburg, PA. “
“And Rep. Paul Ryan is headlining two Romney Victory events today in Illinois.”
Wonder if any of them are on the short list for VP....Could you imagine Newt debating Biden.
I wish Perry was our nominee.
Dick Cheney: I want Mitt Romney to handle the next ‘big surprise’
http://www.capitolcolumn.com/news/dick-cheney-i-want-mitt-romney-to-handle-the-next-big-surprise/
At a fundraiser in Wilson, Wyoming, presumptive GOP candidate Mitt Romney introduced a new face on his campaign trail: former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Perry would make a great cabinet member...Sec’y of Commerce?
I thought Perry objected to governors going out of state to campaign for the GOP nominee.
Yes he would but then the great state of Texas would lose an awesome governor. Maybe when we take back the WH and senate we can do what the libs do and change all the rules, then he can serve as both :)
I wonder if many in the crowd will standing on their chairs cheering as they do in Texas. Perry’s political rallies are the best I’be ever been to. On a completely different level than most politicos.
Santorum rallies Romney support in Westmoreland County
http://old.post-gazette.com/pg/12196/1246724-181.stm
“It was Mr. Santorum’s first Pennsylvania appearance on behalf of his former rival for the GOP nomination.
Mr. Santorum had raised questions about the depth of his support for Mr. Romney after he endorsed him in a low-key email in May, but he appeared enthusiastic in backing the soon-to-be nominee in his remarks amid the crowded, overheated GOP office. He urged the crowd to rally the GOP grassroots for an election that he said would be “a tipping point for freedom.”
“Pennsylvania is where it’s at,” he said. “We’re the Keystone state. If Pennsylvania goes Republican, Mitt Romney will be the next president of the United States.”
Good lesson for conservatives like one of my sisters who, although a conservative, will not vote for him because he is a Mormon. I’ve tried to get her to look at the alternative and making some headway.
I thought if the seemingly endless Republican race for the nomination revealed anything, it was that Rick Perry is dumber than a rusty anvil.
How soon they forget. How soon they tuck tail. The big name GOPhers are all trapped in the GOP-e’s big tent death lock. And a death lock it is. Abortionism/homosexualism/statism will be the death of liberty!!
Looks like pretty much all notable “conservatives” are showing their true blue colors.
Fixed it for you, RINO pusher.
This is NOT about who gets paid by Mr. RomneyCARE to lie
for him, it is about ISSUES.
Mr. RomneyCARE supports DEATH PANELS, Romney DEATH PANELS.
And where does he stand on them now?

He called for the total elimination of 3 government super-bureaucracies.
I don’t care if the heat of the lights and the residual effects of recent back surgery made him momentarily forget the name of one of them.
I don’t really care which three.
Pick three.
Any three.
Eliminate three full executive bureaucracies and you’ve taken the first small step to saving America.
He sounds a heck of a lot smarter than you do.
Maybe you’ve been spending too much time with rusty anvils.
Anyway, if Perry were our nominee, we’d at least have someone who wants to drastically cut the size of government.
And I mean drastically.
In hinesight I was to rough on Perry.
Not that I was to hard on him compared to some.
Compared to Romney he would have been 100 times a better choice.
Could you imagine Newt debating Biden.
I could image a 12 y/o, with a conservative upbringing, tearing Biden apart.

Or homeland security

I wonder if many in the crowd will standing on their chairs cheering as they do in Texas. Perrys political rallies are the best Ibe ever been to.
Oh yeah!
Would love to have AG Greg Abbott as either Gov of Texas...if Perry was to get a cabinet post or USAG!!! The way he’s been fighting the Dept. of Just Us has been phenomenal.
No thanks...I prefer Perry handling issues on the economy, not the borders.
Paraphrasing Claire Wolf, “The GOP is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early (for some) to shun the bastards.”
Taking personal offense and calling me stupid doesn’t make your case for your boy.
Rick Perry demonstrated over and over that he can’t speak extemporaneously. That says he can’t think quickly. And if there’s one quality that wins the presidency in this TV age, it’s verbal alacrity.
There’s no evidence he’s an off-stage, slow-but-deep thinker, either. STD vaccines for underage girls, anyone? Amnesty as sound national policy? Terrible grades in college?
He can fly a jet, so he must have at least average intelligence. But what else? This guy could be President? Not without a media willing to cover for him the way they cover for more PC presidents. Fat chance in Perry’s case.
If you can’t speak or write clearly, you can’t think. Rick Perry, please pick up the red courtesy phone — no, that’s white. Pick up the red one. Yes, that’s it. Okay, now you’re holding it upside down. Theerrrre you go. Attaboy.
Apparently there are some in this thread who do not mind another 4 years of Obama. A lot of us see it differently.
Screw Romney and the GOP-E.
I am aware of all the anti-Perry propaganda that the FR Perry haters are capable of data-dumping on a dime and I welcome you to do your standard Obamaesque anti-Perry data-dump anytime you want.
Bottom line: Perry called for the total elimination for 3 major fed bureaucracies and I believe if he had made it he would have done it.
“Paraphrasing Claire Wolf, “The GOP is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early (for some) to shun the bastards.”
Jim,
I have an enormous respect for you and all you’ve done. I share your disappointment.
But, I believe we can still “shape up” the GOP — we cannot do it all in one step, but we can do it incrementally. We achieved a major victory, when many conservative Republicans were elected to the House in 2010.
We need to think strategically, for the long term, setting our emotions aside, hard as that may be.
Romney wasn’t my first choice for GOP nomination, he was nearly my last, just above Ron Paul. But now, even if we end up with a Republican House and Senate, Obama won’t sign a repeal of Obamacare, and he may appoint another one or two liberal judges to the Supreme Court, not to mention the executive orders he can give, bypassing Congress, and we are literally cooked for the next generation, and by that time, nobody will even remember what freedom is all about.
So the only logical choice this year is to work on electing enough Republicans: conservatives if possible, but moderates, if that will give us the majority and yes, like it or not, to defeat Obama, and our only possibility for that is indeed to support Romney.
Then in the next several years keep working on electing more conservatives to Congress and state level offices, and work to find and encourage a VIABLE conservative to run for president — maybe Scott Walker, maybe Paul Ryan, maybe someone else will emerge.
We can’t afford to take our marbles and not participate, it’s too much, such as the country, our liberty are at stake.
I believe these are the same reasons that prominent conservatives from Newt to Perry to Santorum to Cain to Palin to Ann Coulter are all doing everything to help defeat Obama, by supporting and campaigning for Romney.
Palin is rooting for Romney as well, she is ABO, anyone but Obama.

Unfortunately, the GOP/conservatives were fractured and didn't support the only viable real conservative in the primaries, falling for rhetoric instead of proven record.
No you don’t You’re a liar and cheerleader for the other team.
Romney is a major victory for the progressive/statist big government/big tent RINOs!!
You are right. Was just thinking of TX’s long border that needs to be closed.
Perry could have put his record against Obamas and he would have beaten him. Unfortunately, the GOP/conservatives were fractured and didn't support the only viable real conservative in the primaries, falling for rhetoric instead of proven record.Exactly.
AND he would have gone on to dismantle huge sections of the federal government. Ron Paul is the only other candidate who even talked about doing that and I don't support Ron Paul.
And that statement is actually criticism. But you can't (or won't) see that, obviously.
But he couldn't name them...
Yeah, yeah, I know, I watched the debate I don’t need no stinking links.
I don’t care if he could or couldn’t name them.
He’d be able to name them when he CUT them, and he’s the only one with the balls to do it.
But the little old ladies here on FR can’t support a real man. They have to have a Pure Soul.
The elephant in the living room(and explanation for this behavior) is that Rick likes his cocktails....
