Ever since President Obama made his anti-business comments there has been an outcry by liberals that his words were taken out of context. I would never want to misquote my president so here is the full comment:
Look, if youve been successful, you didnt get there on your own. You didnt get there on your own. Im always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If youve got a business you didnt build that. Somebody else made that happen.
The argument from the left goes that Obama didn't mean that you didn't build your business, just that you didn't build your own roads. Let's disregard for a moment that, as James Taranto points out, the grammar insists he meant business (singular-that) and not roads and bridges (plural-those). Let's forget that it is obvious to a mule (it sounds better in Russian--"kanyoo yasna") that most people didn't build their own roads. And let's not think about the fact that business owners, particularly successful ones demonized here, pay the high taxes that pay for those roads and bridges.
The theme in Obama's words is undeserved success. Obama didn't accidentally say that the successful didn't make it on their own. Take a good look at his opponent. Mitt Romney was born rich, that's true, (his father was a successful auto exec) but not the kind of rich he would eventually become on his own. Barack Obama was taking the world's most obvious shot at Mitt Romney for being successful and when it blew up in his face it became a case of being misquote or words taken out of context. That's simply not true. Most of Barack Obama's monetary success came from his bestselling books. Now we're supposed to believe that the man who earned his multi-million dollar wealth writing books clumsily tumbled over words. Unlikely.
The other reason that the president is attacking business owners is that it creates a convenient "us vs. them" dynamic in a time of high unemployment and economic uncertainty. Instead of taking responsibility that his policies have done nothing to improve our unemployment numbers, the president can instead turn the rage of the unemployed and underpaid onto those who have been successful.
It isn't Obama failing you, it's these rich people who don't recognize that your hard work helped get them there. Perhaps what the unemployed are really lacking is the same access to roads, bridges and teachers as the successful. Or perhaps Barack Obama is playing a class warfare game to win an election.
When will this Marxist revolutionary be caught on tape citing “white privilege” for the success of some in our society?
“Opinion: Obama “You Didn’t Build That” Comment Incites Class Warfare”
That’s EXACTLY what he wants to do! Sheesh!
Outcry, myass! That's the Leftist talking point!
The Flying Monkeys have been swooping into every Web forum in existence, flinging their feces at anyone who posts using those exact words - over and over, those exact words.
There are no coincidences on the Left. They're far better organized than the Right.
classic 1916 anti czar russian rhetoric.... lets eat the rich. Here the business owners = pro-czarist , thus the Lets eat the rich, take their money, cuzz then we all will be rich!
Only one problem there historically are the inventors and innovators. Its easy to be a useless muslim raider, but what is the next step? The history of islam is full of obamanites.... view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IstZSgniH8
to look for the raiders...the Ghazis
LOLOLOL! Post of the week! LOL!
losers belittle the accomplishments of others to make themselves feel valuable. but they are destroyers. best to avoid them at all costs as a matter of survival. how much more so if one happens to be your president.
As a small business owner, November can’t come soon enough.
The neo-communists love to attack a man of straw, in this case the idea that conservatives are too stupid to understand that we live in a complex, interdependent economy, with — gasp — specialization of labor.
Since any Marxist “knows” that history, change, and innovation are driven by impersonal material conditions, Obama cannot grasp that individual ideation and initiative are key to the creative process. Here, as in so many instances, logic fails him. If, as he says, there are lots of smart, hard-working people, all of whom enjoy the same infrastructure and “government help”, what is his explanation for why some succeed and others do not? If the
government creates all the jobs, who is to blame for the current dearth of jobs? — wouldn’t that be the chief executive of the government?
Obviously he envies Romney for being successful (since Obama seems to be a reverse Midas who turns all the gold he touches into offal) and also wants to sell the old “shared sacrifice” scam. What sort of sacrifice are the 40% to 50% net tax “receivers” sharing?
It's very unlikely that Obama wrote those books. The man cannot spell Syracuse. He cannot pronounce the word corpsman. His grammar is atrocious, e.g., "President Bush invited Michelle and I..."
Typical communist. The first thing that Lenin did was to vilify and attach the Kulaks (small business people) in Russia. He seized their businesses and barred all private businesses. Would the Food Stamp President try the same thing .... sounding so familiar.
Those book profits were bribes and payoffs just like the Nobel prize. If you want any of his or her Obama books, look in the overstock sections at book stores or Sams.
