Sarah Palin stepped out in Kansas yesterday wearing a Superman T-shirt, skintight cropped pants and five-inch platform wedges - her political uniform of choice while campaigning for Republican Sarah Steelman.
While mounting an aggressive campaign in Missouri with television and radio ads, and then serving barbecued pork sandwiches at a rural political picnic, the 48-year-old ditched her suits for an entirely new look. Taking to the makeshift stage in the middle of a farm field, the former Alaska governor proved her new style seems to be nowhere near as conservative as her political views.
After the former vice-presidential candidate was controversially given a $150,000 clothing allowance during the 2008 campaign, her outfits have routinely consisted of sharp Valentino suits, Escada blazers and Elie Tahari dresses.
But the Alaskan native's new take on polished political attire didn't seem to bother the 500 plus crowd that gathered to hear her speak.
Many waited over an hour for Palin to take the stage, where she backed Steelman who is in a tight three-way race for Tuesdays Republican primary for Missouris U.S. Senate seat, just days after Dick Cheney told ABC News that John McCains decision to pick her as his running mate in 2008 was 'a mistake'.
Regardless of her questionable wardrobe however, or perhaps because of it, Palin's political magic appears to carry some serious weight with American conservatives.
Despite being ousted by Washington's 'in' crowd - she is also yet to be invited to speak at the upcoming Republican National Convention - Palin is still wielding her Superman celebrity-status power, endorsing half a dozen senatorial candidates, including last weeks winner in Texas, Ted Cruz.
Since the 2008 election, the failed vice presidential candidate has landed a book deal and reality TV shows, giving her an estimated net worth of $12 million...

The t-shirt is obviously a pun on “Steelman.” The shoes are really something, though ... Sarah’s having a little fun.
She was backing the man of steel?
Have you seen some of the recent photos of Sarah wearing form-fitting shirts? She’s in incredible shape. Better than I’ve ever seen her look. How she does it after 5 kids is beyond me.
In the immortal words of Zero Mostel in The Producers: If you’ve got it - flaunt it, baby, flaunt it!
I remember some effete leftist columnists complaining that Reagan was a rube because he wore brown suits and everybody knew one had to wear blue or grey suits to be taken seriously.
Generally it’s true; no one comments on what men wear because their choices are so limited and predictable.
Gig ‘em, Sarah!
Thats a terrible looking oputfit.
I lkike sarah ,but that looks like crap.
It looks like something Michelle Obama would wear. Sarah knows better.
I was looking good when I only had five children, too!
But seriesly, she looks wonderful, no matter what she wears. I want to look that good when I’m her age.
Yabut, it's difficult to make S! look bad.
Sarah does not need a youthful look, or whatever was in whoever's brain for THAT one.
A red skirt would have been more apropos.
I suspect the forget ‘city’ after Kansas.....
I agree. We’ll be seeing a lot more of that outfit from the Leftards. Michelle would wear the belt about a foot higher though.
Hotter than Georgia asphalt.
I agree. The shoes are ugly, the belt is weird, and she looks like she raided her daughter’s closet. If Michelle Obama dressed like that, we’d all be making fun of her. What happened? Sarah used to dress so beautifully.
Premier Barry Soetoro and Governor Romney often “dress down” by removing their jackets and rolling up their shirt sleeves to show their affinity with the average American.
Sarah just dresses average American. Nobody would notice her in a mall except for her fine form.
God Bless America!
