Superman T-shirt, towering wedges: New-look Palin ditches boxy suits as she backs Steelman in MO
The London Daily Mail ^ | August 7, 2012 | Olivia Fleming

Sarah Palin stepped out in Kansas yesterday wearing a Superman T-shirt, skintight cropped pants and five-inch platform wedges - her political uniform of choice while campaigning for Republican Sarah Steelman.

While mounting an aggressive campaign in Missouri with television and radio ads, and then serving barbecued pork sandwiches at a rural political picnic, the 48-year-old ditched her suits for an entirely new look. Taking to the makeshift stage in the middle of a farm field, the former Alaska governor proved her new style seems to be nowhere near as conservative as her political views.

After the former vice-presidential candidate was controversially given a $150,000 clothing allowance during the 2008 campaign, her outfits have routinely consisted of sharp Valentino suits, Escada blazers and Elie Tahari dresses.

But the Alaskan native's new take on polished political attire didn't seem to bother the 500 plus crowd that gathered to hear her speak.

Many waited over an hour for Palin to take the stage, where she backed Steelman who is in a tight three-way race for Tuesday’s Republican primary for Missouri’s U.S. Senate seat, just days after Dick Cheney told ABC News that John McCain’s decision to pick her as his running mate in 2008 was 'a mistake'.

Regardless of her questionable wardrobe however, or perhaps because of it, Palin's political magic appears to carry some serious weight with American conservatives.

Despite being ousted by Washington's 'in' crowd - she is also yet to be invited to speak at the upcoming Republican National Convention - Palin is still wielding her Superman celebrity-status power, endorsing half a dozen senatorial candidates, including last week’s winner in Texas, Ted Cruz.

Since the 2008 election, the failed vice presidential candidate has landed a book deal and reality TV shows, giving her an estimated net worth of $12 million...

"Sarah used to dress so beautifully."

Not imho. She used to wear all of those boiled wool like coats with hugh(sic) buttons.

Looked weird.

Steelman was in blue jeans..obviously an informal rally

The brits failed to note that Sarah returned all those RNC clothes, anything she hwas worn for the past 4 years...SHE BOUGHT

Quite a bit of hypocrisy from a nation that lives to discuss Kate Middleton’s wardrobe.

Come on! It was a BBQ! The shirt’s “S” was a Steelman campaign icon. Sarah even donned an apron to help serve food. Don’t say the apron was terrible looking.

The inmates at the DummyUnderground asylum worked themselves into a lather shrieking about how much they hated Palin and her “new” look.

Good grief the shallowness of some people. NOT one so called report that I have come across thus far has mentioned the temperature on August 3, 2012, in Cleveland, Missouri. It was near a 100 degrees, maybe even above 100, and this place is out away from anything 99% of the sophisticated 1%ers would ever go.

IT is a blueberry farm where the willing and able go to pick berries for themselves, (for the most part), dirt roads and very little rain all year. Oh, I do believe they also have blackberry plants, although the only thing I have picked is blueberries. It is a FARM and the amenities are very limited, and you have to be going there to get there. You can buy already picked blueberries IF one is not able or willing to do the work.

Olivia, it’s August in the American Mid-South. It was an open-air barbecue and picnic. What she was wearing was entirely appropriate for that time and place. And damn, she looks good.

And to anybody who says we’d be making fun of Michelle Obama if she wore that...yeah, you’re right. And that’s because Michelle is built like Michelle. Sarah is not built like Michelle. And let the church say “Hallelujah.”

I was also wondering why Cleveland MO? Owners of The Blueberry Patch are born again Christians. That might have something to do with it. Cleveland is about as far west as you can get in MO without being in Kansas. Crushed limestone roads, dust and more dust, heat....

I am sure the barbaque was good....I know the blueberry muffins were great! (Have about 20 pounds of their blueberries in the freezer!)

I have gone 'over' there many times to pick blueberries. Last year was nothing like this year, and there were so many people the berries were pretty much picked over, so I bought a couple of bags of the already picked. I still have some left in my freezer and take out as much as needed when I want to add to pancakes or make muffins.

I am on their mailing list and it escaped me the 'born again Christians, but they run a nice business. I did not go this year, and I do not think I got a flier giving the blueberry conditions. I think they irrigate from the ponds, but since I was tooooo busy trying to keep alive my own garden and had a bumper crop of strawberries I only considered making a blueberry picking trip before the strawberry harvest.

I was surprised at the selection of this venue. My experience from going for my own purposes, Sarah was dressed just fine. I have been and would have been more concerned over getting attacked by the tiny red chiggers than what I might look like. I suppose one need to have been there to comprehend the setting.

I too figure the barbecue was good, but, given the heat blueberry shakes would have been better...
