The Strategic Failure of the Obama campaign: Chicago must be terrified
Red State ^ | August 17, 2012 | Soren Dayton

We are one week into Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan. A number of polls are coming out telling a variety of stories about what it means. But one thing is clear: Barack Obama’s campaign has had several significant strategic failures this summer. And they failed to define Paul Ryan out of the gate with their Mediscare tactics. And they failed to define Mitt Romney this summer with a huge campaign spend.

The Obama campaign hoped to use the summer to define Mitt Romney. They spent $25 million in May ads. Obama spent $58m in June. What effect did it have? At the end of July, Purple Strategies, a bipartisan polling firm, found (PDF) that Romney has pulled ahead of Obama, even as Obama’s favorability ticked up slightly. Obama’s out of control campaign spending yielded nothing, just like his out of control government spending yielded nothing. Politico even described that poll as giving the Ryan pick a small bump for the Romney campaign.

But then the bombshell came. After a week of Mediscare attacks on Paul Ryan, they were not able to dislodge seniors in Florida. According to a poll, reported by the Palm Beach Post:

But two Florida polls conducted since Ryan’s selection suggest that voters who are 65 and older support Ryan and his budget plan more than younger voters do. A third Florida poll released this week doesn’t include an age breakdown, but finds the state’s voters agreeing more with Ryan’s description of his budget and Medicare plan than with Democratic criticisms that it would “end Medicare as we know it.”

The challenge for the Obama campaign is that if they can’t scare older voters away from Republicans with dishonest attacks on Paul Ryan’s proposal to save Medicare, then they are trapped. Paul Ryan turns out to be a big win. He is a candidate who is deeply connected to the industrial midwest which will be the swing region of the country this election. The Purple Strategies poll found that he helps most in Ohio. He will also help with young voters disenchanted and under-employed by the failure of the Obama economy.

So the Obama campaign has failed in the two main tests. They hugely overspent Romney to disqualify him. They failed. And they have tried for three years to attack Republicans with the Ryan budget. And the polls in Florida, the place that should be most vulnerable to attacks, show that that failed.

Chicago, you have an emergency.

"You didn't build that" and Joe "Chains" Biden didn't help either. If voters would just ask themselves the old question from the Reagan/Carter debate "Are you better off than you were four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment...than there was four years ago?" this would be all over except for the vote tallying.

I have a feeling we may be closer to that than the polls are showing. Reagan's race looked tight too in the summer and most of the fall.

Combine everything mentioned here with the Chick-fil-A stuff and you can see the sea rising against Obama.

3 months to go, anything can happen but the undercurrents are very positive right now.

The Alinsky-ites' favorite campaign ploy is to define the candidate before they can define themselves.

The Dems have FAILED this time around.

From here on in the public will get a better look at Romney-Ryan and will like what they see. Debates will do Obama-Biden in. Even many hispanics are going to go for the GOP squeaky-clean image IMO.

Obama's toast.

It doesn't MATTER WHAT OBAMA AND HIS MINIONS SAY, the general electorate has WRITTEN HIM OFF! That's the fundamental truth of this election.

Obama is so partisan, so petty and so small, that he and his surrogates words carry ZERO weight.. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE in the general electorate outside of the core left is paying attention to a damned word he or his minions are saying about Romney or Ryan.. why? Because they know he's useless. He's a failure, and he's going to say anything.

THAT’s the truth.. Obama has nothing, he was completely unqualified for the job in 2008 and he's proven over 4 years exactly how unqualified he is. The vast majority of the electorate has written him off... and Obama being the narcissist he is can't deal with it.

He cant run on his record, all he can do is attempt to attack his opponent and scare the electorate, the problem for him is the electorate honestly doesn't give a damn what he has to say, they know he's a miserable failure and a petty small man who those who voted against him 2008 knew, and those that voted for him in 2008 but aren't raging leftist have come to realize.

There is literally NOTHING Obama, or those around him, can do or say that will boost his numbers 1 iota. He cannot and will not get above the low 40s at BEST on election day. Now that Romney is starting to present his case, you will see Romney's numbers to continue to grow, and Obamas will contine to fall, this will be the trend until election day. Obama will get a bump out of the convention, but the biggest part of that bump will come from BILL CLINTON’s speech, not Obama’s. The Clinton nostalgia will give a brief bump, but it will evaporate within a week and his downward track will continue.

Obama will be incredibly lucky if he gets 40% of more on election day. He's a pathetic little man with a large ego and little ability. He's the poster child for giving self esteem without it being earned. He literally thinks he's something fantastic when he's a glorified puppet, empty suit teleprompter reader.

He got the perfect storm in 2008 to ride in on, he could be a done nothing, nobody and ride the anti-clinton movement among democrats, and anti-bush movement among the general population to the white house without a lick of talent, he won't get re-elected because he can't pull that off without having to stand on his record, and its record of FAILURE.

Watch, there may be some small deviations day to day, but the overall trend of this election is going to be Obama’s numbers falling and romney’s growing, and the more this happens the more desperate and crazy the attack and allegations coming from the left will be, and the more crazy they are the farther Obama will fall.

This man is going to have a breakdown before election day, he's going to have a Dean moment at some point, because he's a small and petty man who's never faced a serious challenge in his life, he won't be up to it, he doesn't have the character. He won't be able to deal with the fact he doesn't have what it takes.

Be ready for some nastiness folks, and the nastier the left is, just sit back and smile, for every nasty act you see them engage in, know that another fraction of a percentage of swing voters will be making up their mind to vote for Romney.

I think the race is not that close at the moment, but will tighten up substantially when Obama becomes desperate enough to REALLY crank up the vote buying with freebie giveaways (forgiving student loans and the like).

Algore did it first. Then Hillary. Now Joe Biden, with this same old song and dance routine, talkin’ jive before largely black audiences.

The Democrat Party appropriately has a donkey as its symbol. They should also include a Pander bear.

No. If Obama leaves office, he has to leave the country. The only thing that is protecting him now is the power of the office. Without it, the long knives come out. He’s going to be slapped with so many lawsuits and criminal charges it will make your head swim.

Republicans and Conservatives played nice after the Clinton’s absconded with the silverware and half the furnishings, nobody is going to be in the mood to give Obama a break.

He’ll go into exile.

The Clinton nostalgia will give a brief bump

The fact that there is a Clinton Nostalgia shows how dumbed down the electorate still is
