Skip to comments.3 reasons Obama won't dump Joe Biden

Some conservatives are slyly predicting that the president will jettison the vice president and put Hillary Clinton on his ticket. Here's why they're wrong:
After new wince-worthy gaffes by Vice President Joe Biden, conservative blogs are reviving old speculation that President Biden might give his old running mate the boot, and replace him with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The GOP's 2008 vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, folksily opined that an Obama-Clinton ticket would have a "darn-good chance of winning." Palin's old boss, 2008 nominee John McCain, chimed in that Obama might be "wise" to make the switch, but conventional wisdom still says flatly that the president would never do it. Why not? Here, three reasons:
1. Biden is good for the ticket It's totally irrelevant that Republicans don't like Biden and "think he's stupid," says Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway. The Obama campaign isn't trying reach hardcore conservatives, after all. Biden "relates to working class audiences in a way that President Obama has always had trouble doing, and he's a great surrogate to send to states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan to rally the faithful." And he has certainly helped his ticket more than Palin ever helped hers. "The right would be wise not to underestimate him."
2. Obama can't admit Palin's right: With Palin egging him on, "Obama wouldn't dare take her advice and dump Biden from the ticket," says Ed Morrissey at Hot Air. "Even a medical reason would look like a panicked, defensive move," especially after Biden's recent bungles mistaking Rep. Ryan for a governor, forgetting what century this is, suggesting Republicans want to put blacks "back in chains." The last time an incumbent vice president got purged from the ticket this late in the game was 1944. It looks like "Obama's stuck with Biden" now.
3. There's nothing in it for Hillary: Putting Hillary Clinton on the ticket might help Obama, says Dan Amira at New York, but there's "very little upside for her." Every poll says the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination is already hers "for the taking, if she's interested." Her solid stint as secretary of State has made her more popular than ever. "Why should she sully herself in the muck of this increasingly dirty race," or entangle herself with the baggage of a second Obama term? Even if Obama offered her the job which he won't she wouldn't want it.
The Obamadork does not want anyone more intelligent than he serving as VP.
As such, his only choice in the entire known universe was Slow Joe.
Her solid stint as secretary of State has made her more popular than ever
All the pundits talk about what a ‘solid’ job she has done. If there has been a success by the State Dept, I’d like someone to tell me what it was, giving Libya and Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood? Alienating Poland, Israel, Germany, and having Russia look at us as wimps?
There are a whole lot of Democrats in Congress who are even dumber than Obama. My first choice for his VP would be Hank Johnson.
No way our Dear Leader dumps Clueless Joe. That would just fill the water with more blood and the Dems know the sharks are already circling.
Hillary’s only chance is 2016 AND if the economy is still in the tank. If Romney/Ryan win and can right the ship, they’ll easily win re-election.
My prediction? Romney/Ryan win and the economy immediately begins to turn around, if for no other reason than Obama is gone and business owners will have a sense of relief and optimism. Add to that some true business sense and we’ll be headed in the right direction again.
This was a very shrewd move on the part of Palin; by loudly egging Obama to dump Biden, she made it impossible for him to do it so he's stuck with the perpetual gaffe machine. Now, part of the campaign is tasked with continual clean-up duty.
I took pity on Slow Joe and emailed him the solution. If you see somebody standing just behind him at the podium from now on, he’ll be a ventriloquist. I told him to ask Barney Frank where the hand goes.
There, I fixed it.
....#4..because Biden would do anything Odungo wants, because Odungo knows how much money Biden stole.
The #1 reason. Arkancide!!!.
“This was a very shrewd move on the part of Palin”
Agree. Now everyone else SHUT UP!
Has anyone seen how old and tired Hillary looks? She is too worn out to play the part of Obama’s little house boy, and even though she is rumored to be a dyke, she can’t give Obama the satisfaction a gay man could provide.
Even now, Biden has greater appeal in some White working-class communities, especially among union members. But that doesn't make him a "great campaigner." It just means that Obama is a particularly bad campaigner where some very important demographic groups are concerned.
Liberals have defective memories...this is what was said about Hillary in 2008!!
Oblammo has to have someone to blame his loss on in November...it’ll be vice president Strawman.
Stand up Joe!
I am only here for the laughs.
Businesses are sitting on TRILLIONS of dollars waiting for Obama to be gone. When Romney/Ryan win, this economy is going to take off - noticeable probably before Obama is out of office!
I agree this was a great move on Palin's part. Not because "Obama would be seen to agree with Palin"; but because makes it difficult for them to explain away dropping Biden as anything other than what it is. If they try to do it, everyone will know she called them on it.
“Her solid stint as secretary of state?”
If any pundit thinks Hillary was a good secretary of state, that’s some mighty strong weed they’re smoking.
