True, Mitt Romneys new nominee for vice president possesses certain attributes that Sarah Palin lacked, namely a wonky intellect and speaking voice that does not sound like nails on chalkboard. But Paul Ryan may actually turn out to be a worse veep choice than Ms. Palin for several reasons.
1. Ryan further delays, and perhaps permanently scraps, Romneys move to the center. Eric Fehrnstrom, a top Romney aide, signaled that the candidate intended to reinvent himself as a moderate after winning the primary season. But we never got that promised Etch-a-Sketch moment and now, likely, never will. How is Romney going to take advantage of his shape-shifting to attract independent voters if he continues to run as a severe conservative? McCain didnt need Palin to establish his independent, mavericky bona fides, but Ryan moves Romney in the wrong direction.
2. Palins nomination gave McCain a nice, but short-lived, bounce in the polls and enlivened McCain-Palin campaign rallies. By contrast, Ryan gave Romney no national bounce in the polls and was greeted with a tepid response from voters. Romney only got a slight bounce in Ryans home state of Wisconsin, a place Obama can electorally afford to lose but will probably still win anyway. And since Ryan needs to be kept away from seniors and more electorally significant places like Florida (see Point No. 3, below), the newly minted team had to split up when Romney headed south. Palin played everywhere, if that was your flavor of crazy.

4. Palin was the first female on a Republican ticket. Ryan is a white, rich guy of the majority religion. Nothing to see here. Move along....

Catholicism isn’t the majority; but it is the plurality (at about 28%?). Christians are the largest religious group, and Catholicism is the largest Christian group.
I am sick and tired of these pundits, especially those who are credited with being Republican lead thinkers, who proclaim that Ryan is the downfall of Romney. I think some of them just want to be quoted by the liberal media so that they can pretend to be relevant.
Of all the choices Romney could have made, I think Ryan is the best. Now let’s work to get both of them elected.
Either way, both of them compared to who? Biden?

All these people are really saying is that, they are the smartest people in the room and unless we acquiesce to their lead, we’re all idiots... they would rather we all be lemmings and fall into their intellectual void...
Somebody tell this guy that Ryan was in Florida this morning. LOL!
If romney tried to move to the nonexistent middle, he would lose. If he wins running as a Conservative, wins, and THEN tried to move to the nonexistent middle, he will have a congress full of TEA Party Conservatives to contend with...and will face the righteous the wrath of Conservatives everywhere in 2016.
As I’ve said before, I think Ryan’s a fine pick. My concern remains the same as in ‘08, that the guy on the top of the ticket, and his staff, can still screw it up, no matter how great the running mate is.
It’s like I’ve said before: If Hubert Humphrey were running against Adolf Hitler, which one would you get behind and support and ultimately vote for?
Well if Obama or Willard start shooting at me I’ll shoot back...
If either burn down my house I’ll build another...
If they confiscate my lands I’ll move...
But I wont give in to either of the tyrannical evil fiends...
I will stay free from the yoke of liberalism and compromise...
Everything significant that ever happened in human history was the result of compromise. Please read a book.
