Just the ‘thing’ to beat Obama
The New York Post ^ | August 19, 2012 | Michael Goodwin

Posted on 08/19/2012 5:41:48 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A political maxim holds that you can’t beat Somebody with Nobody. It largely explains why Mitt Romney was having trouble going head-to-head against President Obama.

The incumbent is a much more skillful and confident campaigner, and polls show many Americans like him, despite being unhappy with his policies and the country’s direction. Obama is definitely a Somebody and that’s an advantage.

Romney, wooden and rich, was a fat target for the White House’s vicious personal attacks. Despite the president’s economic record, Romney was proving to be a Nobody among many voters, including independents and even some Republicans. He was on a path to defeat.

But a major transformation is happening before our eyes. Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate is reframing the race and setting new terms of engagement.

Suddenly, instead of Somebody vs. Nobody, the campaign is becoming Something vs. Nothing. Because of Ryan’s substantive agenda and ability to articulate it, the GOP ticket is now the Something running against the Democrats’ Nothing.

Part of that dynamic is Ryan’s age, which, at 42, is making Republicans the party of change and the future. Meanwhile, Dems, with their burdens of incumbency and the decision to stick with failed, unpopular policies, are becoming the party of the status quo. The Obama-Biden bumper sticker says “Forward,” but their fixation on Romney’s taxes and his long-ago business career seem small and dated.

Biden especially, having morphed from gregarious and seasoned into demented and dangerous, is a vivid symbol of the tattered brand. The fact that the White House must keep insisting he remains on the ticket reflects a team on defense.

This remarkable development crystallized in just a week. The race now feels more like 2010, when the Tea Party swept out a generation of Democrats...

Now the Romney (65) and Ryan (42) ticket is younger

than Obama (51) and Biden (69).

Obama with his gray hair seems not hip anymore. Old news. Boring.
Heard it all before. Nothing New.

Ryan is a breath of fresh air.

That's the infuriating thing. People who have not been personally affected by the recession and the creep's policies, or at least no much (YET!) vote like the teenagers on Dick Clark's American Bandstand did - has a great beat and it's easy to dance to.

What a dumb statement! Yes, Paul Ryan has energized the GOP campaign, at least for now, but how the heck can he say that Romney was "on a path to defeat"? Just about every pundit worth his salt was calling the race "close" and still is. There's a feeling here, though, that Romney is leading and has a tailwind at his back.

And how stupid do you have to be to think that a guy who founded Bain Capital and who was a governor of a state and whose father was a three term governor and CEO of a major automaker is a "Nobody"? Well, he's certainly less of a Nobody than Obama was in 2008!

I was no fan of Romney during the GOP primary season, but you certainly could never call him a "Nobody."

Huh? I suppose if you have a business, you didn't build it?

Americans elected a largely unknown, undocumented communist to the highest office of the land. Having been indoctrinated by liberal public schools, they fell - hook line, and sinker - for the MSM, communist, socialist, liberal democrat, class warfare, colonialism, environmentalist whacko, racist BS.

We can only hope the country vomits Zero out of office in a big way, while using communists and atheists in our service as clowns, waiters, and other sundry vocations pertaining to those who do not believe the Truth.

Q.....

Has any anti-Obama protester ever made it to an Obama rally, or is this news being screened by the media? I hope Obama dosen’t make it to this part of the country, as I’m sure he will be booed of the stage.

Sarah Palin, DID NOT RUN IN THE PRIMARIES. Newt, despite my vote and fifty dollars I couldn't afford to spend, LOST in the primaries. They also are in FULL support of Romney/Ryan. They know what is at stake if O'Bumbler gets another four years.

Romney is allot of things, one thing he is Not is a nobody. He may actually be the best businessman in all of America. And that is saying something!

>"The fact that the White House must keep insisting he remains on the ticket reflects a team on defense."

Or a damn solid invincible "rope a dope" maneuver.

Until just before the audience participation night at the illuminati puppet theater, they pull a switcheroo. Look for a chess like "castle" move sliding the "Clean Queen" into position. B Wacky may be removed, or just slid over to Veep. Poor Old Joe!

They get a free pass from vetting again.

Thanks for posting this, and I still have to read the whole article.

But, I think it is beyond dispute that the choice of Ryan has been truly a genius move on Romney’s part. And I am 100% gosh darned sure that the two of them “war gamed” the whole medicare/mediscare issue in advance.

I have to say, this really reflects quite well on Romney. Quite well indeed.

Romney/Ryan smarter AND better looking than Obama/Biden!

PS - with all due respect, if the American people return the failed administration of Barack Obama to power this November then we will richly deserve all the calamities that will befall us. Don’t forget, he’s young Barack is, and you might be looking at pictures of “dear leader” on the shattered walls of formerly functional facilities for many, many decades to come.

‘He may actually be the best businessman in all of America.”

One of them, anyway.

I’m pretty paranoid about saying nice things about Romney here, but let me get edgy and say this: I think Romney slogan should have been “Mitt Fixes Things”. I see they are kinda of doing this with “Romney/Ryan the Turnaround Team” or whatever it exactly is.

But Romney should have been focusing on this before. It was what he did at Bain, and most certainly what he did at the Olympics.

And, seriously, who can deny that is what our nation needs now?

Jim ...

Send me the news article(s) where Newt, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Herman Cain and Michelle Bachman ...

have "surrendered" the GOP Primary Delegates to Myth Romney.

It hasn't happened.

And there's a reason. A big reason.

Best "Defeat Obama in 2012" Regards,

Patton@Bastogne
