The GOP will survive for awhile longer by offering a mix of patriotism and handouts, with the patriotism part diminishing as the generation that values that trait continues to die off, until there is virtually no difference between the parties.
Unless something major happens (another devastating terrorist attack or war, e.g.), I fear that the takers are now in the driver's seat. Playing Santa Claus might win elections, but it dooms future generations to a steadily declining standard of living. Young people are dooming themselves to a life of servitude by their support of St. Nick.
