Gun control lessons from Lyndon Johnson (Lays out their game plan)

If ever there were a moment for President Obama to learn from history, it is now, in the wake of Friday’s shootings at the elementary school at Newtown, Conn. The timely lesson for Obama, drawn from the experience of Lyndon B. Johnson — the last president to aggressively fight for comprehensive gun control — is this: Demand action on comprehensive gun control immediately from this Congress or lose the opportunity during your presidency.

In the aftermath of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy (just weeks after the fatal shooting of Martin Luther King Jr. and only a few years after President John F. Kennedy was shot), President Johnson pressed Congress to enact gun control legislation he had sent to Capitol Hill years earlier. LBJ ordered all of us on his staff — and urged allies in Congress — to act swiftly. “We have only two weeks, maybe only 10 days,” he said, “before the gun lobby gets organized.” He told Larry O’Brien and me, “We’ve got to beat the NRA [National Rifle Association] into the offices of members of Congress.”

For three years Johnson’s bill had been locked in the Senate Judiciary Committee by a powerful army of gun lobbyists. But LBJ was always poised to grasp any opportunity to achieve his legislative objectives, even in the most horrendous circumstances. He had used the tragedy of King’s assassination in 1968 to “at least get something for our nation” out of it, finally persuading the House to pass the Fair Housing bill he had sent it in 1966. Johnson saw in the tragedy of the assassination of Robert Kennedy in June of 1968 a chance to get his gun bill enacted...

The left already went its way and took America with it.

When elected officials and bureaucracies act outside the law they are simply lawbreakers. When the majority of the people vote in favor of total lawlessness in the highest offices they are withdrawning their consent to be governed by a constitutional government. By what legitimate basis does the United States of America, as a Constitutional republic, still exist?

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

'The People' no longer support that. They voted in support of lawlessness from the highest office on down. They voted against the rule of law. By referendum we now have a banana republic. The USAINO.

Gun prohibition will be no different that prohibition of alcohol or the war on drugs. As soon as you prohibit the gun ownership a black market will develop and the war will be worse than anything we have seen.

Did anyone watch the tv series, Boardwalk? Has anyone been watching what is going on with the drug cartels in Mexico? Is that what they want to bring here? It’s too late to ban assault rifles, the bad guys already have them.

The Democrats have shamefully exploited and politicized this time of sadness and mourning, purposefully to turn the minds of people away from prayer and God for help and fortification toward the State.

Don’t let them turn our minds and hearts away from God, the only true salvation, for if there is no life after death, what is the purpose of life on earth? The State cannot save us.

Fair Housing of ‘66... How’d THAT work out? Eventually morphed into subprime/NINJA loans, etc.... between that garbage, gun control, Vietnam, “War on Poverty”, and more, that mean Texan SOB was easily the most destructive President in modern US history, he makes Obama look like a rank amateur!

How does one confiscate over 400 million firearms and billions of rounds of ammunition from 320 million people with only just over one million troops and police?

How are Americans going to pay off the 16 Trillion dollar debt we owe when we’re standing on the verge of spending even more?

I have no idea - but it’s not going to stop them from trying...

The Internal Revenue Service has just over 100,000 employees, including clerks, human resources people, janitors, etc. They will not be able to raid hundreds of millions of homes.

Is it any wonder Califano, architect of “the ingrate society”, would want to register all guns and gun owners?

By the way, the last time I remember hearing from Califano was 20 or so years ago when he wrote a column about how the bulk of health care costs are the result of scumbag, ambulance-chasing, “jackpot justice” trial lawyers. Boy, did that column ever get ignored, dismissed, and erased damn quick! Good luck digging it up anywhere. I have a feeling Califano was taken to the woodshed over that one.

I'd like to point out that the school was a perfect example of a gun free zone.' Worked out pretty well for them, did it? On a small scale, it teaches us what a nation-wide gun free zone would be like.
