Grant D.C statehood: Move the nationís capital to Louisville
The Hill ^ | December 26, 2012 | Bernie Quigley

Posted on 12/26/2012 10:27:48 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The Huffington Post reports that a bill to move the District of Colombia toward statehood has been introduced in the Senate. Buzzfeed says “the 51st state would be called New Columbia” and be granted full voting representation in the Senate and House. A group called DC Vote has launched a White House petition to call on President Obama for support. It is indeed time that D.C. voters become fully enfranchised as the 51st state. But it is also high time that the nation’s capital be moved from its quaint antiquarian, Eastern enclave to the center of our country. Louisville would be the perfect spot for a “new District of Columbia.”

In earliest days, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., were correctly viewed as the centers of America: they were the benign centers of countervailing regions, nominally North and South, with dividing overviews — industrialization and manufacturing in Hamilton’s North, provincial agrarianism in Jefferson’s South.

--snip--

My suggestion: a supercommittee of governors and former governors to discuss the issues of Western relevance and state sovereignty: Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, who compared California to Athens and Sparta in his inaugural address, Rick Perry of Texas who questions why a state with a surplus must support those in deep and growing debt, Sarah Palin, who singularly rose Tea Party issues of heartland America to relevance, Butch Otter of Idaho, Jodi Rell of Connecticut, who with Schwarzenegger challenged the feds on auto emissions, and Nikki Haley of South Carolina...

Bunk. Move them back to Maryland where they belong. No way DC needs two Senators. As far as moving the capitol, move it to the hardest to reach point in Kansas

DC, as a state, would not be able to support itself. He’ll, it can’t even govern itself right now. Could you believe a Gov. Marion Barry?

But Criswell of Criswell Predicts said Wichita KS would be the new capitol of the US.

But then he also predicted the world would be destroyed several years back.

Put them on a Mountain top or the Desert floor.
Take away the fancy restaurants, put them on some old Military Base, raise their pay to say 2 Million, let them hire their own staffs - no law against nepotism spend what you want on staff, it comes out of your salary.
Couple of Spartan years they will have a chance to get some work done without a whole lot of distraction.
Provide them the same as Military.
Quarters, meals and security.
Put them ALL there, Pres, VP, Congress,Supreme Court, Cabinet etc etc etc

You don’t balance the budget; NO LIBERTY.

There’s already an “emergency” government headquarters underneath the Greenbriar hotel in West Virginia, built during the cold war, complete with living quarters, kitchens, etc. Or underneath Nellis AFB in the tunnels.

Too Posh.

Let them vacation there once some work gets done.

The committees should meet in the old silo control rooms.

Little 1 on 1 will keep- I mean may get their game sharp.

According to the Constitution, "New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress."

Since the area of DC is comprised entirely of land given by the state of Maryland for the purpose of creating a seat of government, granting statehood looks to be directly in violation of stated Constitutional language.

The Museums would stay in DC. The departments no longer need to be close to the capitol. Move DOE to texas, Move Agriculture to Denver or Kansas City, Move Education to Ohio, Commerce to California, etc.

The senators and congressmen should meet and conduct business in various conventions centers around the USA. Would this cost a lot ? Yes, but the savings in getting these people out of DC would be 1,000 times greater.

I think we should give them a separate country altogether.

Ding-ding-ding-ding! We have a winnuh!

My more-modest proposal was that we merely cordon D.C. off, "Escape from New York"-style. I have no doubt that, within a few years months, the conditions there would highly resemble those in the movie.

Regards,

And it would give the libs another two seats in the Senate and god knows how many Reps.

It will probably pass.

And we’ll get is some lecture about fairness and racism. :(

This, like all White House Petition ideas are asinine, useless and go nowhere except to gather info on those who start or sign them.

That being said, “if” DC became a state it would end up like Detroit in the first year of existence.

West Virginia was created from Viginia without consent of its legislature.
